It is made of periodic water slabs surrounded by 3D printed dielectric containers. The printing material used is photosensitive resin which has a high transparency to ensure the whole converter being an optically transparent structure. By choosing proper dimensions of the water slabs, an incident linearly polarized plane wave which has a 45-degree angle with the water slabs will pass through the converter, resulting in circular polarization (CP) of the transmitted waves due to the different travelling speed of two orthogonal electric components decomposed by the incident wave. A water slab LTC polarization converter is designed to verify the performance. Simulated results indicate that a 3-dB axial ratio (AR) band of 33% is achieved with a transmission length of $mathbf{0.13 lambda_{0}}$.","PeriodicalId":428997,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Workshop on Electromagnetics: Applications and Student Innovation Competition (iWEM)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132946085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A technique made use of dual planar transmission lines was adopted in the design of this WPD. Namely, microstrip line (ML) and coplanar waveguide (CPW) line were used simultaneously on both the copper-sides of a substrate. Copper holes and vias were used to realize transitions between the dual lines. The miniature dual-band WPD was designed at 1 and 3 GHz with a physical area of $pmb{9.1times 5.4}mathbf{mm}^{pmb{2}}$. The proposed system operates at 34.5 GHz and can continuously detect targets flying at a maximum of 200m above the ground. In field tests, it measures the target's displacement direction, moving speed, mass and body shape. An Altera Stratix IV FPGA is utilized for signal processing of the FMCW radar signal. A cosecant squared pattern leaky wave antenna is suggested to detect the targets with constant power and reduce the data processing load in real time system.","PeriodicalId":428997,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Workshop on Electromagnetics: Applications and Student Innovation Competition (iWEM)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127883210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
