Methods: The files of 42 patients with anisometric ambliopia aged between 7-12 (Group 1, n=25), and 13-17 (Group 2, n=17) years were retrospectively evaluated. Improvement of visual acuity for two or more lines during therapy was considered as success. Two groups were compared with regard to success rates. The effect of severity of amblyopia, the cause of anisometropic amblyopia and the prior usage of glasses on treatment success were evaluated. Results: Success rate was 76% in Group 1, and 41% in Group 2. Although a statistically significant difference was not detected between groups,, the success rate in patients especially with severe amblyopia was better when compared with patients with moderate amblyopia. The success rate was better in patients with hypermetropia when compared with patients with astigmatisma in both groups. The success rate was better in patients who did not priorly wear glasses. Conclusion: Maximum optical correction and occlusion therapy are effective in patients with anisometric amblyopia aged of 7 to 17 years who had no previous occlusion treatment.","PeriodicalId":428200,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dr. Behcet Uz Children's Hospital","volume":"294 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123119489","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In these cases, therapy can only be directed toward supression of the pathogenetic processes and the amelioration of the consequences of cholestasis. By this way quality of life of the children can be promoted until the recovery of the cholestasis or progression of the cholestatic process to liver transplantation requirement on the other extreme treatment modalities in children with cholestatic liver disease analyzed in two groups. Specific treatment of underlining disease is placed in the first group and treatment and prevention of complications secondary to cholestasis itself is in the second group. It is the Gross E type of esphageal atresia (EA) and constitutes 4% of all EA cases. Three infants with TEF were treated between 2003 and 2012. The diagnostic workup, surgical technique, and postoperative course of patients who underwent repair of H-TEF were reviewed. Conventional esophagram demonstrated the fistula in 2 of the patients and a cineradiographic procedure was performed to outline the H-TEF in the last patient. In all 3 cases the location of the fistula was confirmed by tracheoscopy. The closure of the fistula was made by cervical route in 2 cases and by thoracotomy in the remainig patient with distal located fistula. A high index of suspicion for an H-TEF should be maintained in the presence of neonatal respiratory symptoms. Since H-TEFs are known to be complicated with lower respiratory tract infection, early referral of these patients to pediatric surgeons and accurate and timely surgical treatment should be realized.","PeriodicalId":428200,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dr. Behcet Uz Children's Hospital","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126476041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Cases were selected from the records of pathology department. The infants of the mothers with normal placental examination who had received histological diagnosis of chorioamnionitis. Perinatal characteristics, complications during their stay in neonatal intensive care unit and psychomotor development at one year of age were evaluated. Sixty cases were included in the study. Results: Histologic diagnosis of chorioamnionitis was made in 30 cases. Thirty cases with normal placental examination served as the control group. The age of mother, risk factors during pregnancy, the method of delivery and gender of the cases did not differ between the two groups. However, the number of preterm births was significantly higher, and the mean gestational age and the mean birth weight of the cases were significantly lower in the chorioamnionitis group compared with the control group (p=0.001, p=0.046, p=0.001, respectively). The psychomotor development of the cases at one year of age did not differ between the two groups (p=0.154). Conclusion: Although chorioamnionitis induces premature birth and complications in the neonatal intensive care unit, it does not seem to have any adverse effect on the psychomotor development of the infants at one year of age.","PeriodicalId":428200,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dr. Behcet Uz Children's Hospital","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114240056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: The study was conducted in the neonatal intensive care units of two state hospitals located in the Black Sea Region of Turkey. The study population consisted of 96 nurses, working in the neonatal intensive care units of two state hospitals located in the Black Sea Region of Turkey. It was planned to work with the whole study population, without performing any sampling. However, 10 nurses were excluded from the study, because of they were on leave. Besides, some nurses were unwilling to participate in the study. The study was performed with 86 nurses. The data were collected by face-to-face interview method using “Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire” and “Personal Information Form”, which was created by researchers in the light of the literature to reveal the demographic and professional characteristics of nurses. The study data were evaluated in SPSS 17.0 software. Numerical, and Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were calculated, andMann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, and independent samples t-tests were used. Results: Nurses’ mean score of the intrinsic satisfaction was 3.47±0.43, the extrinsic satisfaction mean score was 3.08±0.66 and the total mean score of job satisfaction was 3.32±0.49. Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that the nurses have moderate intrinsic, extrinsic and total job satisfaction. It was also shown that the educational level, total work year and professional position of NICU nurses and, the relationships with colleagues and managers of them have a significant effect on job satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":428200,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dr. Behcet Uz Children's Hospital","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125860863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hypoglycemic seizure usually follows long lasting periods of hypoglycemia and worsens cerebral injury as well as the prognosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate neurological and developmental outcomes of children with a history of neonatal hypoglycemic seizures. Methods: 21 patients who had neonatal hypoglycemic seizures and followed up in Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Child Neurology between January 1999 and May 2011 were included in this study. The electroencephalography, brain magnetic resonance imaging and visual evoke potential results of the patients were recorded. Mental and motor developmental outcomes were evaluated. Results: The development of epilepsy, abnormal visual evoked potential responses and abnormal brain magnetic resonance findings in infants with a history of neonatal hypoglycemic seizures were found to be associated with poor neurodevelopmental outcome. Conclusion: Newborns should be carefully monitored for hypoglycemia which causes severe and permanent but preventable neurological sequelae.","PeriodicalId":428200,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dr. Behcet Uz Children's Hospital","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128308367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
