For the evaluation of the test results it is imperative to determine the impulse parameters according to the standards. For the parameter evaluation of the digitally recorded impulse, the eigensystem realization algorithm (ERA) which produces a discrete state space model has been applied to the impulse curve fitting. With appropriate system order, the dynamic state space model is suitable for all types of impulse waveforms. Transforming the identified discrete state space model to the modal coordinates, it is possible to extract the oscillation or overshoot components from the original waveform in analytic function with high accuracy. Depending on the identified oscillation frequency or overshoot duration, the unwanted components can be removed for the construction of the mean curve without significant distortions in the original waveform. In this system the heated pipeline is an active conductor in a single-phase AC electric circuit, together with a single core high voltage extruded cable strapped (piggybacked) to the heated flowline. For new projects with flowlines exceeding 40 km, the insulating outer sheath and the metallic ground screens can be replaced by a semi-conductive outer sheath for a continuous transfer of capacitive currents to seabed, or to clay for buried sections. Due to the relative high temperatures of the crude oil, thermal insulating properties of the clay and heating of the cable conductor, relative high temperatures can be subjected to the cable materials. This paper presents results from measurements of mechanical and electrical properties of different candidate semi-conductive cable outer sheath materials aged in relevant and accelerated service conditions, and measurements of electrical resistivity and water content of clay samples taken from relevant oil fields. This method has already been used in many places including China. If there is a defect on an insulator, the distribution of the electric field along the insulator contrasts with that of a good insulator. The electric fields covered in this paper include that along the axis direction of the insulators, that on the radial direction of the insulators and the synthetic electric field. The characteristics and sensitivity of each kind of electric field distribution along the insulators were studied by experiments in the laboratory to detect defects at the high voltage part and the middle part of insulators. It was found that the electric field along the axis direction is more sensitive to defects at the high voltage part of the insulator and can find 5 cm defects when the insulator does not have a corona ring. Amongst these techniques a relatively new technique for detecting partial discharges (PD) in the ultra high frequency range of the spectrum is also introduced. The UHF technique has been recently presented in the field of transformer diagnostics, and although it is under development it shows great potential for on-line detection, recognition and location of PD activity. This paper describes the practical application of the UHF technique on two new identical 90 MVA, 150 kV power transformers. Both transformers are equipped with four external UHF sensors. Initially, injection measurements were performed to investigate the effects experienced by UHF signals when propagating through the transformer. Moreover, software developed to model the propagation of UHF signals inside the transformer tank was tested in its application to these specific transformers. The results obtained during the both the induced voltage test, as well as during the PD acceptance test in the factory are described. This curing degree is considered to be the key parameter for quality of materials used for these systems. Application of differential thermal analysis (DTA) for evaluation of curing degree of three-component composite materials (glass fabric, reconstructed mica, and epoxy resin) is presented in the article. Used analysis enables to observe characteristic structural parameter-the concentration of reaction-able particles in organic component of this material. In our investigation, concept of curing reactions courses was obtained as well as details for determination of optimal curing time of material. These conclusions have been verified with the other methods such as thermomechanical analysis (TMA) or loss factor and permittivity determination. These initial raw data files have been centralized on a corporate computer, where all new measurements are now systematically saved. The statistical analysis of the first 10000 files has served as a framework for establishing five levels of discharges severity. This paper presents the results of this statistical analysis which proposes a two dimensional classification of the discharge severity. It also attempts to compare the statistical distribution of the maximum discharge apparent amplitudes with what can be found in the industry.
