In large strip-wound rotors, a coated aramid paper is used to bond the coil turns together and provide turn-to-turn insulation. Experience has shown that the thermal performance of the system is limited by the capability of the bonding material. This paper describes a program to verify the thermal capability of a strip-wound rotor insulation system. Several candidate materials were subjected to initial screening tests, from which two were selected for thermal ageing tests. Accelerated thermal ageing tests were performed in accordance with IEEE Std 98-2002 and IEC 60216-1 to compare the thermal performance of the materials. This paper describes the results of the thermal ageing tests and the failure modes encountered","PeriodicalId":427638,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2006 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123497613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dissipation current waveform observation method, which has been developed by authors, is very powerful technique to detect high field nonlinear dielectric property and by using this method, not only the various kinds of numerical processing but also the observation under the various kinds of applied voltage waveform by using arbitrary function generator are possible. In order to clarify the conduction mechanism of polyethylene under AC high field and to know which factor influences on the AC conduction, various kinds of experiments, such as the effect of acetophenone or alpha-methylstyrene soaking, the frequency dependence of dissipation current waveforms, the effect of an instantaneous changing rate of applied electric field (dE/dt) by using a high field trapezoid-like arbitrary waveform and so on, were carried out by using several thickness of LDPE film and sheet samples. Some results were analyzed by using FFT analyzing program and it was estimated the fundamental component of the dissipation current waveform. To find the solving, the GSM mobile signal's spectrum are measured and analyzed both in laboratory and onsite. The results show that the mobile signal's spectrum is broad when the phone signal is emitted. It is hard to avoid this interfere only by using narrow measuring band. At the same time, the GSM mobile signal's transmission characteristic in GIS was simulated in our model under laboratory conditions. In brief, our findings are discussed through two projects. There are a lot of measuring methods of PD, such as impulse current, ultra-high frequency, super sonic method, and so on. The impulse current method is the earliest used in PD detection and is the most basic. Further the balance method is one of the impulse current methods. This method has higher inference rejected ability than others. But, the input circuits of traditional balanced PD measurement methods are composed of two parallel circuits of resistance and capacitance. There are many disadvantages with using this measuring circuit such as utilizing its application in HV and UHV (ultra-high voltage) measurements. A new selective frequency balance measurement theory for PD was put forward by the authors in 1988. The device, which was based on this theory, was also determined. Now, it will be verified in the HV field. The noise signal can be rejected more than 1000 times by this device. Furthermore, the device is very easy and cheap to produce using the new theory. The system structure of the selective frequency balance measurement circuit is dissertated. The design method is also explained and measuring results are illustrated","PeriodicalId":427638,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2006 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127354630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relevance of small scale tests has long been known to be limited. It is known that designers would never dare to use the strengths seen in such tests. The paper argues that one aspect that may describe the reason for the discrepancy is that the physics controlling the breakdown are different for the small scale tests when comparing to the breakdowns observed in large technical insulation systems. Experimental data are presented showing that catastrophic events of technical interest arise in different liquids at different voltage levels. Voltage differences obtained with the impulse overvoltage method are not seen when 'traditional' small scale breakdown tests are performed","PeriodicalId":427638,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2006 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130455448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is fact that the PD signals are transformed by the wavelet based on the different scales and displacements, and the wavelet detail coefficients are obtained under the different scales, which are inputted into the wavelet neural network to accomplish pattern classification during the network learning course. The PD signals, which are simulated with different PD signal sources in the lab, are de-noised and normalized. Using the power spectrum analysis method, figure out the temporal-scaling domain of the PD signals and figure out that of the wavelet function chosen, till the two pairs of parameters can be conformed, then the seating factors and displacement factors of the wavelet function, used as the structure parameters of the wavelet neural network, are taken as the basic frame of the improved wavelet neural network. The results indicate that the improved wavelet neural network has not only better identifying ability than that of the BP neural network and pattern features of the PD signals could be automatically extracted, but also the recognition precisions are higher than that of the other networks","PeriodicalId":427638,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2006 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125336793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this contribution a new ester insulating liquid is introduced, that combines the advantages of mineral insulating oils and ecological friendly, low viscosity synthetic liquids. Insulating liquids of mostly synthetic origin like high molecular weight hydrocarbons or silicone oils could so far not substitute mineral oils as their application characteristics are inferior or their price is disproportionate. In Europe only ester liquids, namely Midel 7131, have proven their advantageousness for transformers regarding environmental and aging aspects. The newly developed ester liquid, especially because of its low viscosity is a very promising liquid for use in transformers as cooling and insulation liquid. This contribution presents some experiments on the electrical, dielectrical, chemical and environmental characteristics of this liquid, which have been performed to approve the usability of this liquid for transformers","PeriodicalId":427638,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2006 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122192524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A significant factor in ageing is chemical action through moisture, metal contaminants and oxidation. The stresses change the properties of the paper and oil, which ages the insulation system. Transmission and distribution operators use condition monitoring and maintenance programs in an attempt to prolong the life of the insulation and hence the transmission equipment. Condition monitoring typically involves moisture analysis, dissolved gas analysis and furanic analysis of the oil. Maintenance involves purification of the oil to remove contaminants. Additional monitoring techniques may be used such as infra-red (IR) spectroscopy and dielectric analysis. However, without controlled ageing experiments under laboratory conditions the applicability of condition monitoring particularly for lifetime prediction is questionable. An opportunity arose from the recent scrapping of an aged high voltage transformer to analyze the diagnostic parameters of typical transformer oil aged under service conditions and compare these results with oil aged under control conditions. The aim is to understand the effects of reprocessing and ageing on some physical, chemical and dielectric properties. Some measurable properties of ageing and the benefits of oil maintenance are discussed in this paper","PeriodicalId":427638,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2006 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114165722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many of the features that affect these performance levels have been discussed in other documents; contaminants, propensity for water treeing, insulating and semiconducting materials. However the size of cable tested is rarely discussed. This is somewhat surprising as it has been long recognized that electrical failure is an extreme value (the Weibull distribution is a member of this family) or weakest link process. In extreme value processes the performance of the whole device is determined by the single \"weakest link\". Thus when more \"weak links\" are present the chance of failure is consequently higher: the measured performance depends on weak link concentration or size of the device. Additionally at some dimensions the thickness of the dielectric can influence the breakdown mechanism itself; especially if the thermal influences are present. This paper will attempt to discuss a number of these size related issues for both AC & impulse conditions; these will include: 1) the effect of the dielectric volume actual mechanism of failure, 2) prediction of performance on service length cables from short length laboratory tests. This has practical relevance on the selection of appropriate qualification levels which will have direct relevance to service performance, 3) the requirements for cable quality when increasing the size (thickness or length) installed","PeriodicalId":427638,"journal":{"name":"Conference Record of the 2006 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124878601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
