Solution of the problem depends on availability of a model. This paper proposes a systematically developed model. It is based on a previously performed exogeneity investigation of various quantified variables. A certain nonlinear model among a collection of 100 models with different inputs is chosen as the most appropriate model. Structure of all nonlinear competing models is established according to logical conjunctive and disjunctive relationships between variables. Different combinations of the exogenous variables generate these models. At first, unacceptable models are put away applying coefficient sign significance criterion and error validity. An automated fuzzy decision-making process determines the winner model, which is a hybrid nonlinear model, among the other remaining models.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. The SPQC injects series voltage to eliminate the voltage disturbances by combining series inverters with a DC-link capacitor and a shunt rectifier. A basic model of the SPQC is set up by using the state-space averaging method and the influence of lowpass filter and injection transformer are considered. Diagrams of control strategies are analyzed based on state-space averaging model. Due to the existence the inductance and the resistance of the series filter and the series transformer, there is error existing inevitably in the open-loop control strategy. In order to improve the performance, a source current feedback control strategy for inverters is proposed. Experimental results on a prototype are used to verify the validity and effectiveness of the SPQC with the proposed strategy.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. In this paper, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) analytical method is adopted. The reliability-based mathematical model for predicting the failures of the subsystems and components in the power plant is established, and the failure mechanism is studied. Software is developed to simulate the failures evolution and forecast their tendency. Based on the above and further ranking the weightiness of equipment whose status to be observed by FMECA (failure mode effects & criticality analysis), the power plant manager may choose appropriate condition monitoring and failure diagnosis apparatus for carrying out conditional maintenance. At the end of this paper, some suggestions on the reformation of equipment maintenance plan and pattern in China are proposed. In this paper, practical research on four 200 MW generation units of Junliangcheng power plant in China is implemented. The results show that it can efficiently help decreasing the cost on maintenance and hence improve the total benefit.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. By performing transmission and security-constrained optimization of the system resources against spatially distributed loads, market simulation tools can produce realistic projection of market clearing prices and asset utilization levels across the transmission grid. This paper presents a method for incorporating inter-market bilateral transactions into regional market simulation. The proposed method is capable and flexible for the modeling of pre-scheduled and economic-driven interchanges across the markers or control areas on a broader regional scope. Numerical examples based on a simple test system are provided to illustrate the concepts and algorithms. The proposed methodology is then applied to a real regional electric market simulation analysis of the Northeast US system based on publicly available transmission, generation, and demand data.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. Each node is equivalent to two nodes, an active power node and a reactive power node. Then a proportional sharing matrix M is built up. To trace power flow, searching this matrix gets the contribution factors of each generator and each line-to-ground capacitance to each load. During the process of tracing, line charging power is equivalent to reactive power source in the both ends of a line, and loop flow is detected and settled. Numerical test shows that the proposed method can trace both power flow and losses correctly and effectively, which provides foundation for transmission charge allocation.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. A detailed discussion on the choice of forecast models and forecast variables is reported. A salient feature of the reported methods is that the forecast models can take into account the influence of market power on electricity prices. Specifically, a market power index, namely must run ratio (MRR), is judiciously selected as an input to the price forecast models. An added advantage of presented models is that the number of required input variables can be reduced significantly without perceived loss of accuracy. The transmission company, to forecast short-term, mid/long-term prices in Zhejiang electricity market, is utilizing the suggested methods. The results show that the proposed forecast models meet the basic requirement of Zhejiang electricity market operation.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. The control strategies applied to active power filters play a very important role on the improvement of the performance and stability of APF; with the development of control strategies, APF techniques developed quickly. In this paper, the control strategies applied to active power filters are reviewed and analyzed. The characteristics and applicability obtained from the analysis can become the reference to the design of the APF. An output signal of the speed deviations of each generator of the multi-area multi-machines system is taken as the input for the wavelet analysis. The \"oscillation signature\" for each of the 4 machines in a 'no fault condition', 'fault' with the PSS and without the PSS is recorded at various fault locations for fault detection using multi resolution analysis (MRA) wavelet transforms. The MRA decomposes the signal into different resolutions allowing a detailed analysis of its energy content and characteristics. It is then used as a feature for classes and locations of the fault. Three classifiers are used, namely the generalised regression neural network (GRNN); the probabilistic neural network (PNN), and the adaptive network fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), to train and find the fault location and classification and the results obtained are compared. The two-area 4-machine system with a double circuit transmission lines between the two areas is modified to include a fictitious bus for the study. To control the oscillation at various fault locations, a lookup table is devised using Simulink/spl reg/ for various values of the gain and the time constant of the conventional power system stabiliser. The integral square error and multiple objective functions are used as a fitness function during the minimization operation. Results show that the proposed control of the PSS is more robust in damping the oscillations as compared to the fixed conventional PSS.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. Indian power industry restructuring with a limited level of competition, since 1991, has already been introduced at generation level by allowing participation of independent power producers (IPPs). The new Electricity Act 2003 provides the provision of competition in several sectors. It is felt that the prevailing conditions in the country is good only for wholesale competition and not for the retail competition at this moment.
