The technique is illustrated by application to a practical bus arrangement of substation and used to study the sensitivity analysis by varying selected station component parameters. The study results are essential to the condition base maintenance management planning and can play a great role in decision making for improving in main or sub equipment of substation component. It was shown that the Monte Carlo simulation method, which has gained popularity in recent year due to its simplicity and widely use in application to obtain more various indices than analytical method is nearest the real condition of substation, so this approach is a powerful tool for substation reliability evaluation. The results presented in this paper provide valuable information for planning, operation and maintenance of a substation.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. The method is based on artificial neural network (ANN) combined similar days approach, which achieved a good performance in the very special region. Performance of the proposed methodology is verified with simulations of actual data pertaining to Okinawa Electric Power Co. in Japan. Forecasted load is obtained from ANN, which is the corrected output of similar days data. Load curve is forecasted by using information of the days being similar to weather condition of the forecast day. An Euclidean norm with weighted factors is used to evaluate the similarity between a forecast day and searched previous days. Special attention was paid to model accurately in different seasons, i.e., summer, winter, spring, and autumn. Moreover, the forecaster is robust, easy to use, and produces accurate results in the case of rapid weather changes.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. Customers prefers to have a good electricity supply. In this paper, a novel voltage monitoring system based on a compact microprocessor module is presented. It provides a low-cost and flexible solution for monitoring the power quality of electricity supply. It is especially useful in applying final circuits for both investigation and monitoring purposes. The hardware consists of the module and a few extra electronic components. This shortens the development time and lowers the manufacturing cost. Also, the power quality data can be presented via a web page. Any user in the Internet can access the data from the new monitoring system. Moreover, the size of the system is very small presenting no difficulties for installation. All these features make it very competitive to be used as a supply voltage quality monitor.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. Evaluation of PQ has become more and more crucial, especially when other PQ technologies have achieved great improvement. A multi-level fuzzy comprehensive evaluation algorithm is proposed to evaluate PQ. The PQ standards of China are referenced and key factors that influence PQ are extracted. These factors are divided into two levels to assess PQ. By constructing membership functions for all the factors separately according to their characteristics and by determining the weights of each factor using improved analytic hierarchy process (AHP), a model which can classify PQ into five grades is designed. At the end of the paper, the effectiveness of this approach is proved reasonable by computing some illustrative examples.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. The integration of instability trajectory is used as a criterion for determining the degree of transient instability. The transient stability constraints are first converted into equivalents, and then incorporated into the optimal power flow equation set. The difficulties in computing the resultant Jacobian and Hessian matrices have been overcome. However the method is based on the Fourier transform, which can just precisely analyze the signals whose cycle is integer times as broad as that of fundamental wave. With sampling windows widening, the variations of distorted signals in a fundamental period are weakened. Moreover, the higher harmonic order is, the lower distinguish ability, and, as a result, the assessment accuracy becomes bad. Considered its prominent localization both in time-domain and in frequency-domain, wavelet is used to the field of assessing harmonic impedance for the first time.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies. In Japan, we are facing urgent issues about how to design the structures of power market. In order to cope with the issue, many studies have been made with market models. However, there are many kinds of modeling methods, and no particular method has been established so far. Each has drawbacks and advantages about validity and versatility. This paper presents the method to use a multi-agent model, which learns a bidding strategy autonomously through trial-and-error search action, as useful tools of numerical analysis of the price formation process of an electric power market. The model enables us to analyze more general electricity markets, which have several different types of power plants with unit commitment costs, seasonal and hourly demand fluctuation, real-time regulation market and operating reserve market. This model figures out the issues that may be appeared when we will design markets and the way of designing operating reserve market.","PeriodicalId":427228,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Electric Utility Deregulation, Restructuring and Power Technologies.
