Starting from existing studies and hypothetical reconstructions of Leonardo’s project, exploiting only analogue methods (i.e. 2D drawing techniques), new in-depth analyses are presented. In detail the use of 3D modelling allows a systematic analysis of the possible solutions for the ability to easily reconstruct the plan of each solution investigated starting from the section represented by Leonardo in the Codex Atlanticus . Results lead to multiple interpretative solutions of this complex architecture.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"53-66"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48240034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a hands-on process which documents the geometry, construction, materiality, usage, form, and meaning of buildings and makes it possible to trace the processes of their creation throughout the various layers of time embodied in their fabric. Despite the extensive use of digital tools within its workflows building archeology has not yet embraced the digital age as firmly as other disciplines. While the research community has long been interconnected via societies and conferences, there still is no digital platform for the overarching valorisation of scientific building documentations. Baureka.online , a research data repository, catalogue and archive for building archeology in the German speaking area, seeks to provide an innovative answer to this urgent desideratum .","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"43-52"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46302363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main challenges in both projects was to choose the appropriate documentation method for the capturing of the small scale traces. After the documentation the collected data was converted to 3D models in U3D format that have been embedded in pdf sheets. This enabled the three dimensional data to be made publicly available via the project homepages.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"93-102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42564103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the beginning these digital 2D and 3D visualizations were especially used to present results of research projects, but today they become more and more a scientific tool during the research process. Digital 2D and 3D visualisations have the potential to extend the traditional methods of all participating disciplines in research of Cultural Heritage. Thus, these visualisations could be defined as spatial and object-related iconic epistemological models and media. In these iconic models the knowledge is collected, merged and made visible.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"19-30"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47381349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Within an interdisciplinary workflow, the new approach provides digital data of the timber structures in formats which can be used easily for the subsequent architectural analysis and structural assessment. Compared to conventional methods, the project aims to replace labour intensive manual work of 3D documentation and modelling of historic roof structures by a time-saving digital workflow enabling straight exchange of data and results between surveyors, architects and structural engineers.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"31-42"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49095681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
