Based on some hypotheses of reconstruction of geometries and structural systems developed in the architectural field, and formulated as an interpretation of original drawings, it was intended to test whether the solutions proposed by Leonado were also actually feasible, examining them with current structural modeling techniques, of evaluation of static functioning and definition of structural safety. Using the finite element method (FEM), two different proposals were investigated for the vaults and supporting arches of the tiburio, finding its substantial reliability even though this was hypothesized in the absence of technical verification tools that did not exist at the time.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"67-82"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47239002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, through the presentation of case studies curated by the authors, this contribution intends to share the approach and the research process for three-dimensional modelling designed to enhance appreciation of cultural heritage. This process extends from the selection and analysis of historic documents through to exhibition and interaction design for displaying, incorporating a wide range of advanced digital techniques that permit the analysis, management, and sharing of complex images and information from different spheres of knowledge in an integrated way.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":"5-18"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2020-07-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47908941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Following the restoration of the floor mosaics of the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem, surveys were conducted with digital technologies that produced a 3D database on considerable mosaic surfaces. The problem of the graphic representation, linked to the drawing of these systems, concerns both the optimization of the methodological processes to the advantage of a more performing drawing activity, and the definition of the appropriate languages to satisfy requirements related to the documentation and the work restoration. Technical drawers have worked alongside restorers to produce technical drawings and a model from which interact with the mosaic system, developing an informative model that can facilitate construction activities and, at the same time, enhance the entire artwork.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"9 1","pages":"95-104"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48053448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The outcomes of this research are enhancing both the studies and the user experience of digital representations of pictorial works that are seen as visual aggregators of human knowledge and experiences, because the sketching style and techniques of the artists are fully reproduced and made available to different interpretations. The mid-fifteenth-century atlas of the ships of the known world depicted in the Fra Mauro’s mappa mundi (Venice, Marciana National Library) has been used to: 1) showcase the design process and techniques of an innovative method through the prototyping of a 3D non-photorealistic-rendering (NPR) model of one ship, and 2) demonstrate the effectiveness of this method through the 3D NPR animation of all Fra Mauro’s ships as a contribution to both the advancement of learning in pre-modern maritime history (with a focus on shipping), and the implementation of NPR for the creative industry. These models are multiple purpose, because once they are created and implemented, the data can be displayed in different platforms (e.g., smart device, computer or larger flat screen, holographic pyramid, virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D printing).","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"9 1","pages":"29-46"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43479256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, from the identification of fields and aims, where the available tools and functionalities meet the support needs by the stakeholders, some experimental applications are developed with reference to two main aspects. The former concerns the creation of virtual tours of panoramic scenes, enriched by data from preliminary investigation, in order to enable the coordinated and integrated fruition of the pre-diagnosis qualification outcome. The latter relates to the employment of image treatment routines on coloured point clouds with the purpose of carrying out semi-automatic operations of decay monitoring for post-diagnosis control.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"9 1","pages":"1-16"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43341946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
