Taking advantage of innovative methods of data acquisition through ambient intelligence and space sensing infrastructures, the Co.ME. project has developed a system to turn exhibitions into sensitive spaces, able to quantify and register visitors’ behavior. A solution that provides to museum professionals all the necessary data to understand their public, making possible to structure a cultural offer based on visitors’ needs. After a short theoretical introduction on the project framework, the paper presents the case study of the Civic Museums of Palazzo Buonaccorsi in Macerata (Italy), demonstrating the effectiveness of this approach in terms of both data collection and monitoring system; useful solutions to improve museum installations and communication, as well to optimally plan staff attendance.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"11 1","pages":"167-178"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49379146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pandemic has increased inequalities and widened disparities in accessing heritage and in participation to cultural life. On the basis of the results of ICOM's 2020 global surveys, this paper shows how museums benefited of the opportunities of digital innovation during the lockdown. The pandemic is accelerating the digital change and interactive technologies are enabling museums to interact with communities more efficiently and attract new public. The paper addresses the impact on museums of the crisis of global mobility and mass tourism and point out to the need of new business models and exhibition policies. It calls for public support to museums' cultural, technological and managerial innovation and it shows that the challenges of the digital world require new interdisciplinary competencies and more professional interaction. © 2021. The research starts from the study of the small plaster casts collection kept inside the Santa Croce complex at the University of Cagliari. The workflow aims to investigate the potential of advanced technologies by reconciling the needs strictly related to the two principles of measurement and visualization. The construction of an information system will facilitate not only the classification and management of the digital plaster collection but also communication for scientific and didatic purposes. Two different possible applications are considered: the first for the construction of a web platform for the remote interactive query of the database, the second for the virtual visit of the rooms that host some of the casts through the delivery platform for point & click games developed in the PAC-PAC research project.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"11 1","pages":"133-150"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41391180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These reproductions imply a rearrangement of the space of reception of heritage. This phenomenon can be called relocation. We shall argue that it is a common element to the processes of “patrimonialization” and “mechanical reproducibility”. Making-heritage implies a rearrangement of the space around an artifact, this rearrangement also takes place during its mechanical reproduction. In this paper we will discuss some forms of relocations of heritage and see how these phenomena have always been at the heart of practices of valorization of traces of the past. The analysis of a case of virtual reconstitution of an archaeological site will help reveal some of the current trends in this field.","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"11 1","pages":"45-52"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42971129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The variety of tools available has generated a multiplicity of technical solutions based however on the essential operation of the digitisation of the heritage, promoted for years by MiBACT and today even more urgent. This contribution aims to illustrate the work in February 2020 within the \"Ghibertiana\" project for the preparation of the digital contents of the soon-to-be-established \"Centro di Interpretazione del Territorio della bassa Valdisieve\" ( Interpretation Centre of the Lower Valdisieve Territory ) and \"Centro di Documentazione su Lorenzo Ghiberti\" (Documentation Centre on Lorenzo Ghiberti) .","PeriodicalId":42707,"journal":{"name":"SCIRES-IT-SCIentific RESearch and Information Technology","volume":"11 1","pages":"115-132"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2021-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42207085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This essay illustrates some applications that show the state of the art of the initiatives undertaken by this institution in the field of digitization. Next, this review contextualises the solutions designed and developed within the Engineering-Historical-Memory online interactive system to fully access permanent and temporary exhibitions and discover the knowledge embedded in manuscript artefacts via the visitor's smart device or institutional interactive screens. With these solutions, the original artefacts, or their physical and digital replicas, become gateways to online interactive applications. COVID-19 has acted as a huge crash test \"on the role, structure and functioning of museums. It has increased the existing gaps and differences has demonstrated that lacking skills and knowledge, lacking flexibility and agile structures as well as diverse sources of income can lead to museums having to decrease or abolish their main activities and tasks in service of society, or even facing the threat of permanent closure” (NEMO 2021). On the other hand, the pandemic shock forced museums to become aware of the importance of digital resources as a tool to keep alive their relationship with their audiences and to activate new relationships with new demand segments, which so far were unreachable.
