This search is expressed in the form of books, songs, movies, or even in the form of literary works. The individual poets express God in poetry. There is a difference between one poet and the other. In this study, therefore, we examine several issues: the expression of God in Amir Hamzah's poem entitled Drop Back, the expression of God in Chairil Anwar's poem entitled Prayer, the expression of God in the Sutardji Calzoum Bachri poem entitled Amuk, and the comparison of expression on God in the poems of the poets. This research is qualitative with descriptive nature. In this case, data collection is done by library method and documentation technique. Further data analysis is done with the application of Roland Barthes semiotics theory, namely the principle of signifier (sign), signified (signified), and meaning (signification). This analysis begins by splitting the data in the form of fragments that are arbitrarily defined. Thereafter, the first or denotative meanings are determined by looking at the lexical meaning, and the meaning of the second or connotative level is determined by the search for a relation between marker and second level marker. By looking at the significance of the second level, the expression of God in the poetry of the poets in can be determined. Thus, the results of data analysis show things as follows. (1) Amir Hamzah expresses God with the fragment of your servant tongue, different, develops, spreads me up the ladder of captivity, and descends again. (2) Chairil Anwar expresses God with the fragments of prayer and at your door I knock. (3) Sutarjdi Calzoum Bachri expresses God with the fragments of my cat and se There is mmmmMu! These concepts are a series of mythic buildings articulated in advertisements to replace the appearances of messages conveyed by the tobacco products. The message content of the product visuals is replaced not just by the existence of various rules or regulations that prohibit the presence of tobacco products or smoking activities. This is performed to reinforce the impression or a particular image of the product being advertised. Advertising, in the context of this research, is seen as an arena used to resolve social contradictions, offer identity models, and celebrate the existing social order. The A-Mild advertisements shown in Mataram city will be studied using the Roland Barthes Semiology approach. {"title":"Engagement and negotiation: Exploring a tertiary female EFL teacher’s professional agency in her career development in P.R. Given previous literature offers little empirical evidence regarding how female EFL teachers in China shape and reshape their agency in their career development, the current study attempts to explore a Shanghai tertiary female EFL teacher's agency by examining how she manifested her agency and how she negotiated with the situated context to achieve her roles in her career trajectory. The authors applied qualitative approach, i.e. interviews, classroom observation, artifacts, living graphs, and SNS-based communication to collect the data and thematic analysis to analyze the data, so as to present “thick-description” of the participant's “lived experience”. The major findings of this research are: (1) The participant recursively achieved her agency via influences from the past, orientation towards the future, and engagement with the present; (2) Reflection and self-regulation are found to facilitate her agency achievement; (3) The participant's agency was afforded or constrained relatively to her situated context. Balinese calendar system of the Saka and Pawukon is very important in the socio-cultural life of the Balinese people who firmly hold a concept of harmonious life. They believe that this universe will be harmonious when humans can maintain good relations with God, fellow human beings, and the universe in a balanced way. This study aims at investigating the Balinese calendar system from its underlying-philosophical perspective as well as utilized-daily practices among the Hindu Balinese life. The theory used to undertake this study is semiotics by providing a sustained and rigorous relation between the signifier (sign) and signified (meaning). By applying a descriptive qualitative research, the data was collected through literature study of the Balinese calendar library and in-depth interviews with some stakeholders of the Balinese customary community, such as priests, and Balinese calendar practitioners and observers including the writer’s direct practices. The data that has been classified is analyzed by a qualitative descriptive method with an inductive-methodological paradigm which is setting up the discussion from particular principles to the general in order to obtain a conclusion. The result of data analysis is presented by the formal and informal method. Like many other languages, Kinyarwanda exhibits some variants but this does not impede communication among them. This paper examined Kinyarwanda variants among its native speakers. The question of sociolinguistics main concern is discussed here. Kinyarwanda language sound variants and differences in present verb tense markers based on region factor is discussed. Synchronic approach was used to cement discussion. The study stemmed from the interaction I have had with some of friends and colleagues from different parts of the country. When I usually heard some discussions at different occasions, like ceremonials, social media, meetings, churches and on road, I realized that Kinyarwanda, the only language common to all Rwandans, has some linguistic variations. It was demonstrated that accent from some areas in the northern and western parts of the country differs from the one used for academic and professional purposes. It is the first study that focuses on syntactic typology. Ciacia language is one of the local languages in Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The study focuses on verbal clause construction of CL. This construction covers several subject and aspect markers, intransitive and transitive verb, and argument as consequence of verb valencies in the clause construction. The study used written and oral data. The oral data of this study is obtained through recording and elicitation techniques. Written data is obtained from the previous studies. The study also used synthetic data which is verified by the informants. It was analyzed by using distributional and match methods with change and loss techniques. Based on the result of this study, it found that verbal clause construction of Ciacia language is always filled by subject and aspect markers (S/AM) that are affixed to PRED verb. The base structure of verbal clause in CL consists of the verbal predicated clause and non-verbal predicated clause. The non-verbal predicated clause can be constructed through base nominal and adjective categories. Verbal clause predicate can be filled by an intransitive base verb, monotransitive base verb, ditransitive base verb, and ambitransitive base verb. Those verbal clause construction of Ciacia language always uses S/AM, either with affix or without affix. The roles of argument semantic in verbal clause construction in CL are (i) the main argument acts as A/ACT, O/UND, benefactive (BEN), and thema and (ii) peripheral argument acts as benefactive (BEN), temporal (TEMP), and locative (LOC). Based on the semantic features, the verb in the intransitive clause is classified based on verbal clause with argument SUBJ as A/ACT and verbal clause with argument SUBJ as O/UND. Participants were 51 (27 males and 24 females) third-semester students enrolled in a three-year diploma program in Tourism and Travel Business at one public higher education institution in Bali. Data was collected through the procedure of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Results from the pretest-posttest control group design were evaluated by paired t-tests and a mixed design ANCOVA (analysis of covariance) in order to identify any statistically significant improvements following the intervention. Meanwhile, qualitative data was analyzed based on the whole observation of the action and the result of the questionnaires. Findings revealed that the students participating in the treatment were significantly improved in terms of English speaking ability, and the improvement was also supported by their increased learning motivation and interest. Produced in 1995, it cinematically visualizes an early, inchoate stage of feminist consciousness that is crafted in the binary opposites of Austen’s main fictional characters. This article engages with the feminist theme of the film version of Sense and Sensibility directed by Lee. Through an elaborate analysis of the two female protagonists’ sense and sensibility by reading some relevant scenes, it will explore the representation of British women’s life experiences and argue that the rendering of feminism extends a transcendental sympathy for women’s sufferings, or rather, their emotional distress in the synchronic patriarchal society in Sense and Sensibility. What underlies the discourse of sense and sensibility is the two heroines’ nonautonomous life predetermined by the male-dominated social system in the late eighteenth-century England.
