Based on our proposed power management model for multicore systems, we present a classification of total power reduction techniques including both leakage and active power. According to this classification, three main classes are discussed: power optimization techniques within the cores, techniques for the interconnect and techniques applicable for the whole multicore system. This paper describes several techniques from these classes along with a comparison. For the whole multicore system, we focus on adaptive voltage scaling and propose a comprehensive taxonomy of adaptive voltage scaling techniques, while considering process variations.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127410255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes the development of an ADL inference engine, which is able to recognise natural hygiene behaviour patterns. As opposed to traditional ADL classification approaches, the developed inference engine employs a novel hierarchal structure for the modelling, representation and recognition of the ADLs, its associated tasks, objects, dependencies and their relationships. The organisation of this information in a contextual structure plays a key role in carrying out robust ADL recognition for the detection of hygiene behaviours. The proposed work also marks a shift in feature detection methodology, as it allows actual behaviour to be studied in its natural environment within actual households, with at least two individuals per household as opposed to a laboratory based controlled setting. This paper also presents experimental results that validate the performance of the inference engine.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114412113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Without AOP, the necessary security code would be mixed with the business logic that the cloud service provider implements. This makes the maintenance of both code and business logic tedious and prone to errors. The proposed aspect-oriented approach in this paper is built upon a Web services frontend to the cloud service. Three types of context are taken into account when tuning the aspects (security services). The contexts contain various details on the environment of the Cloud and the Web services, which permit activating the necessary aspects in response to these details. A set of experiments validating this approach, are also reported in this paper.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116104482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pilots overhead in the proposed insertion technique is reduced to 12.5p as compared to conventional block type channel estimation. The proposed channel estimation algorithm is aimed at reducing the channel noise, which is inherent in the least square (LS) estimation. The proposed channel estimation algorithm uses LS for channel impulse response estimation at pilot subcarriers. The channel frequency response at all of the subcarriers for the entire block is estimated by using the inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT), zero padding, and the fast Fourier transform (FFT). The performance (in terms of the bit error rate) of the proposed channel estimation algorithm and the pilot arrangement is compared with the LS estimation for block-type pilot arrangement. Simulation results show that the proposed channel estimation algorithm outperforms the block-type pilot arrangement with LS estimation.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128406570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the existence of the Service Level Agreement (SLA) in the cloud, the business-owners can guarantee the quality of service they were promised to get from the providers. However, in such shared environment, there is a high probability of overload situations to occur violating the SLA, and causing profit losses to both providers and clients. This paper proposes an SLA-aware Profit-Oriented session-based Admission Control (POAC) mechanism that manages the overload problem in three-tier Web-based applications hosted on a cloud environment. The proposed Admission Control (AC) was validated using simulation. Our experiments show that the proposed approach makes profit-aware decisions, while taking the SLA in consideration. Thus benefiting both the service providers and the business-owners.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129368540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to ensure the adaptation of the service composition and the dynamic handling of the context in such environments, we suggest a new approach based on the taking into account information of context to adapt the process of composing services. Although there exist many composition norms that have been suggested, such as BPML and BPEL4WS, these norms are somewhat limited in terms of the dynamic adaptation of the service composition during the execution. In this paper, we present an approach that takes into account at the same time the user's context and the services, with integrating them in the service description language WSDL and in the composition process BPEL. The suggested extensions, known as A-WSDL and A-BPEL, permit us to describe the adaptations capable of bearing the service, the composition of services and the dynamic handling of context.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123443356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
