On this regard, this paper presents preliminary ideas aiming at defining the concept of Human Aware Networking (HAN). The main idea behind HAN is to utilize the sensed context and the recognized human behaviors mostly based on the use of mobile devices in order to feed the network with the interaction patterns of users to better setup and optimize network parameters. With HAN, the goal is to maximize the relationship between provided Quality of Service (QoS) and perceived Quality of Experience (QoE)..","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130624217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Zone–based LBS form a subclass, that restricts the service provisioning to users within a predefined authorized zone. However, when deployed with real positioning systems, such LBS are exposed to position measurements with probably large errors compared to the size of the LBS's authorized zone. This may cause wrong authorization decisions and severe service malfunctions. Hence, a methodology to choose and rate an appropriate positioning system for such LBS in the forefront of their deployment is urgently needed. In order to solve this problem, this paper first presents three geospatial Quality of Service (QoS) metrics for LBS. A methodology to compute the expected QoS values for LBS when operated with a given positioning system is presented. This approach finally allows to determine if a given positioning system yields sufficiently high QoS values for the underlying LBS. Consequently, an appropriate positioning system can be identified and rated. Finally, the effectiveness of the approach is illustrated in a case study comprising two indoor LBS in a typical office environment.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117281192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a novel context aware mobile application (YouGuide) is proposed to encourage and promote the cultural learning. Prophetic narrations (Hadith) texts are considered as a very important source of Islamic culture. This application uses prophetic narrations texts as a cultural learning resource. A new way of learning is proposed for Islamic legislation sources. Besides, the proposed system puts into consideration the technical and pedagogical issues to enhance the learning process. YouGuide is tested on 20 users. Two questionnaires are conducted with test users. The results of both questionnaires show that our application doesn't have any serious usability problems and the proposed system can be used to promote cultural learning with increasing the progress of Hadith learning.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127375877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Proactive service Discovery is one of the most important fields of research in pervasive computing. In This paper we will present an enhancement of ubiquitous computing discovery mechanisms adding context handling capabilities to Web Services for Devices in Pervasive Computing using UPnP as an infrastructure to address these implicit requests. User preferences, network and location are described by a formal context model ontology. As compared with previous research, our method uses location aware, UPnP infrastructure, web service for devices and the notion of proactivity in pervasive computing to continuously present the most relevant services to the user or device in response to changes of context, services or user preferences.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"237-240 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130732152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the last decade, the field of context-aware services had led to emerge several works. However, most of the proposed approaches have not provided clear adaptation strategies in case of unforeseen contexts. Dealing with this last at runtime is also another crucial need that has been ignored in their proposals. This paper aims to propose a generic dynamic adaptation process as a phase in the model-driven development life-cycle for context-aware services using the control loop MAPE-K to meet the runtime adaptation. The proposed process is validated by implementing an illustrative example on FraSCAti platform. The principal advantage of this process is to sustain the self-reconfiguration of such services at model and code levels by enabling successive dynamic adaptations depending on volatile context.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122289791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As these mobile applications have access to users' personal information and are capable of gathering and transmitting trust sensitive information, posing security and privacy risks. In this paper, we propose a context-aware adaptive security framework for eliciting users' context information and adapting this information with mobile applications' network access control mechanism. The framework enforces the execution of mobile applications inside security incubators to control the communication between mobile applications and mobile device resources. Applications' access requests are analyzed based on user's context information collected from the mobile device sensors and the application security configuration.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"138 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113991608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As an individual is the core, basic component of society, and plays a critical role in societal transformation, there is growing interest and discussions on individual sustainability and wellbeing. Information systems can play a critical role in supporting sustainable transformation. However not many current systems have models to support an individual's sustainable transformation, based on a holistic understanding of the dynamics among multiple life dimensions. To address this lacuna we propose concepts, models and conceptual framework that are fundamental for the design of Individual Sustainability Systems (ISS). We then suggest a system framework for ISS. Finally we illustrate system views of prototypical systems that we are implementing in the real world context of an online supermarket and habit formation mobile apps.","PeriodicalId":426100,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Context-Aware Systems and Applications","volume":"437 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122883589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach is applicable to a group of annotated text files, which are supported by Microsoft Word (docx, doc, pdf, etc.). Instead of the original document, an intermediate file is produced and saved as a Microsoft Excel document for each user. The file contains edited information including highlighted and underlined parts, comments, etc. Whenever a user wants to access his/her document, the intermediate file is attached to the original document and appeared to him/her. The experimental results of 50 users show that a 2.5MB file and in total, 126MB files can be reduced in size to 3MB.
