In this paper, we consider a cellular based primary network co-existing with a cognitive D2D pair. The primary network consists of a BS and multiple traditional cellular users which can sell their spectrum to the D2D user. In addition, under low interference conditions, the spectrum can be simultaneously shared between cellular users and D2D capable users, which is called non-orthogonal sharing mode (NOS). Therefore, in the auction, the D2D transmitter has three types of service providers (SP) or sharing modes. The SPs are operating on different frequency spectrums and a D2D capable pair intends to share these spectrums. This situation is formulated as a auction game where a D2D transmitter bids a demand curve and each SP offers a supply curve. The Nash equilibrium point of the auction game is obtained analytically.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"76 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116351075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A clustering approach to enhance the performance of public safety D2D networks is proposed. In each cluster, a single device, the cluster head, is selected to communicate with the base station. It would then relay the information to/from the other cluster members. The performance of the proposed method is analyzed in both the uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) directions. It is compared to the scenario without D2D collaboration, and it is shown to lead to significant enhancements in terms of data rates and video quality of service (QoS).","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"8 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123504509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Another challenge is how to predict Primary Users (PUs) activities over licensed channels, to avoid interfering with PUs. So, there is a need to implement a Cognitive Engine (CE) as a self-organized entity in a CR that overcomes those challenges. In our previous studies, an algorithm called Adaptive Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization (ADPSO) combined with Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) has been proposed for CE. ADPSO selects the optimal configurations when an unknown environment is countered while CBR allows usage of previous knowledge in an environment that has been previously observed. CBR however depends on a single observation of the previous state and gives inaccurate results where an individual states' performance changes. Another problem is how to find the best action when the environment is changing dynamically. In this paper, we propose a self-organized Q-Learning-based CE (Q-CE) which: 1) autonomously adapts the link configuration; 2) applies the previous action under similar environments and 3) where the environment changes, Q-CE learns from radio environment behavior and PU activities the best action to apply, in order to achieve QoS requirements and avoid interfering with PUs. The proposed CE combines following methods: ADPSO for link configuration; CBR for fast reasoning under similar environment; and Q-Learning to learn the environmental behavior. The results show improvements of about 67% in the achieved throughput, about 50% in signaling overhead when compared with the previous solutions that use only ADPSO and CBR.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126948217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This represents an interesting solution to offload the LTE networks. In this paper we propose a very-tight coupling solution between LTE and Wi-Fi, which can be used to enhance the offloading procedures. In this architecture PDCP (Packet Data Convergence Protocol) is used as the common layer between LTE andWi-Fi and the security procedures defined for LTE are reused for Wi-Fi transmission. It is thus possible to use Wi-Fi transmissions even when a terminal is covered by a Wi-Fi access point for a short period. However, the vast majority of the existing comparative studies for the various techniques capitalizes on their ergodic sum-rate performance and does not quantify their achievable performance with practical error correction coding. In this paper we investigate the achievable performance of different transceiver techniques for the K-user MIMO IFC with the long term evolution advanced (LTE-A) turbo coding scheme. Techniques achieving interference alignment (IA) at the interference-limited regime as well as a technique that reconfigures to the interference conditions are considered. It is shown that, for most of the tested 3-user MIMO IFCs where each transmitter may send more than one data streams, the iterative transceiver techniques result in superior achievable spectral efficiency than conventional IA.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131891249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Hetnets or two-tier networks of Macro-cells layered with Small-cells, the resource allocation will be sharing the same licensed frequency spectrum. In this paper, a simple resource allocation strategies along with power coordination scheme for the two-tier Macro/Femto is proposed that allows Femto-cells to coordinate and allocate more resources frequency allocation by using fractional frequency approach. The adaptive power allocation is also adopted. This strategy is analyzed in a multi-cell systems with coexistence of Macro-cells. To date, there are no REM studies established to benchmark the impact of REM models and their accuracy for inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC) within multi-channel systems, such as based on OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access). We evaluate REM using a reuse partitioning scheme and it is benchmarked against a system without REM where no-reuse partitioning is employed. Results show that the large interior with REM is able to improve the system efficiency at certain load for low exponents. This study is further extended to the effects of REM information accuracy, such as the predictions of path losses, fading variances as well as the load, on the system performance. It is found that the variation in the load estimation by REM has the greatest effect on the system efficiency, and it is significant for high path loss exponent resulting in significant loss of system efficiency. In contrast, the fading variance accuracy has the least impact on the efficiency performance. This research implies that REM is beneficial in improving the cellular system performance, particularly in intercell-interference coordination.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132797296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm is using the MDT measurements to construct statistics of reselection and handover distributions for different mobility categories to learn how network topology and UE velocities are correlating in local geographical neighborhood. The distributions are used to self-optimize LTE Release 8 MSE thresholds by employing a standard score linear classifier. This allows simple, backward compatible and cost-efficient optimization of MSE thresholds. Moreover, such self-optimization results in a high classification accuracy of UE mobility states and decreases operator's manual parameter configuration complexity. Performance evaluation of the proposed algorithm was done by conducting extensive system simulations. This is especially important in the context of LTE, which relies on OFDMA and dense frequency reuse. Different techniques for inter-cell interference coordination are available in literature but most of them make use of static methods, which cannot adapt to a load changing network or heavily complex centralized systems which present an obstacle for future scalability. Furthermore the addition of heterogeneous components, such as femtocells, has incremented the inter-cell interference problem even more. Given the unpredictable nature of femtocells and the fact that no communication mechanism is envisioned between macrocells and femtocells, the inter-cell interference problem needs to be addressed in two separate ways. In this paper we analyze a heterogeneous LTE OFDMA downlink network and we propose a low-complexity, distributed interference mitigation method which is aware of network load and propagation conditions. The method is fully scalable and addresses the macro-to-macro and the femto-to-macro interference separately. The proposed method makes use of the iterative Hungarian algorithm, which effectively reduces interference and enhances the quality of service of starved user when compared to other state of the art solutions.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114477135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
