ZigBee is the emerging industrial standard for ad hoc network based on IEEE 802.15.4.Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is expected to be used for remote monitoring, home automation and industrial control. One of the goals of WSNs is to minimize the running cost and therefore Star and Tree topologies have been designed to save energy as they do not require any routing table to send the packets to destination [1]. This paper includes the introduction to topologies supported by IEEE802.15.4, and also we have studied the deploying parameters of tree and star topologies in a test bed environment. In the end of this paper some techniques and measurements has been proposed for random deployment into the field.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124053712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the same time, cloud computing is an emerging trend that outsources computing and storage resources, and extends mobile handsets capability of processing large data amounts. Cooperation in heterogeneous networks allows better (improved) network management by reducing power consumption, enhancing network coverage, and reducing deployment and communication costs. Within the cloud paradigm, federating femtocells in clusters not only helps with network management, but also opens the possibility to use these clusters for both communication and computation. Clusters of femtocells with virtual machine hosting capabilities is a novel disruptive paradigm which adds a dimension to cooperative management of heterogeneous networks. However, effective cooperation among geographically neighboring femtocells is prone to backhauling energy costs and delay limitations. In this paper, we propose a framework for evaluating backhauling performance in a femto-cloud architecture, considering several backhaul technologies and topologies. Our simulations explicit the limitations of clustering in femto-cloud imposed by backhauling.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122418835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a new solution, where in the OFDM amplify-and-forward (AF) relay system with fixed gain (FG) at the R station, one or more subcarriers having the lowest signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) on both hops are first omitted, and then the SCM is performed. Analytical and simulation results have shown that in this way significant BER performance improvements are attained in the regions of medium and high SNRs on both hops. Then, we compare BER performances of the most common OFDM relay systems with SCM, i.e. the systems applying decode-and-forward (DF), AF variable gain (AF VG) relaying, and AF FG relaying, where the same solution based on omitting the worst subcarriers on both hops is assumed. Through these comparisons, an optimal solution for BER performance improvement in the given channels' conditions, is defined.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128573576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proximity of base stations to subscribers brings many possibilities for the development of new applications, including new offerings based on cloud computing. Smartphones can directly offload applications to close base stations, provided that these are equipped with additional computational and storage resources. The cloud concept applied in the framework of small cells can also combine radio and computation aspects in order to optimise the service delivery. This paper introduces a new element called the Small Cell Manager (SCM), which optimises the overall operation of a cluster of cloud-enabled small cells. The SCM, aware of the cluster situation in terms of both radio and cloud aspects, interacts not only with the cloud-enabled base stations, but also with LTE core network components. To that end, different possibilities for the general architecture of a small-cell-cloud are analysed. Furthermore, the paper describes different evaluation criteria an LTE operator has to consider before adopting this approach in order to optimise the required investment and maximise benefits.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131226644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Higher spatial reuse gain as well as fairness can be achieved by resource conflict resolution based on signal-to-interference ratio at receiver device and channel-state dependent resource assignment in a synchronous and iterative manner. It is shown that the proposed scheme can provide the large number of concurrent links and high system throughput. We first present optimization models for small-scale coordination (i.e., three cells). Then, we show that extending the same solution to a higher number of cells is generally unfeasible, due to both an unfeasible amount of reporting on the UE side, and too high computational requirements. To overcome this limitation we then propose a layered solution which i) relies on small-scale coordination at the first level (e.g., three cells at the same site), and ii) coordinates groups of coordinated cells at a higher scale (i.e., tens of cells), using optimization models, reaping the benefits of a centralized architecture. We show through packet-level simulations that our scheme brings significant benefits, in terms of fairness, throughput, and energy efficiency.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125823342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is noted that traditional wired solution such as digital addressable lighting interface (DALI) need to be replaced altogether. The solutions proposing to replace just the end connections by wireless transceivers will not fit in the emerging IoT paradigm. Different architectural blocks of smart lighting systems are briefly described. The key enablers for each of these blocks, their evolution trajectories, existing challenges and possible pathways are briefly summarized. It is noted that the functionality of the building block of IoT based smart lighting system can be translated into an abstract reference architecture. A hirerichical networking architecture is proposed and different networking issues are discussed. Finally, a communication theoretic perspective for wireless interface selection is presented.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129165386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work proposes a more generic underlay sharing system model, which takes into consideration the interference caused to the secondary system and develops a combined (transmit and receive) beamforming design that is applicable in both uplink and downlink use cases. The paper presents a successive transmit/receive beamforming optimization algorithm, which substantially decreases the computational complexity of the combined beamforming design. The performance analysis results show that the proposed combined beamforming achieves satisfying performances (i.e. mitigating the interference from the primary to the secondary system, satisfying the interference constraints to the primary system etc.). The results show that the proposed successive optimization algorithm decreases the complexity of the combined beamforming without degrading the underlying system performances, which makes it applicable for scenarios such as HetNets and cognitive small cells, which require agile and real-time operation.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126647837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most of previously reported methods work on the raw audio format in spite of the fact that nowadays compressed format audio, especially MP3 music, has grown into the dominant way to transmit on the Internet. So far, most of the previous methods take advantage of MDCT coefficients or derived energy type of features. As a first attempt, in this paper we propose a novel audio fingerprinting algorithm utilizing compressed-domain spectral entropy as audio features. Such fingerprint exhibits strong robustness against various audio signal distortions such as recompression, noise interference, echo addition, equalization, band-pass filtering, pitch shifting, and moderate time-scale modification etc. In addition, the algorithm for compressed-domain can be applied in Internet of Things (IoT). Experimental results show that in our test database which is composed of 9823 popular songs, a 5s music clip is able to transmit in IoT and identify its original recording, with more than 90% top five precision rate even under the above severe time-frequency audio signal distortions.","PeriodicalId":425676,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference Workshops (WCNCW)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132671598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
