Racial discrimination refers to the character who face discrimination through mistreatment and violence that make a great impact in the future. The unnamed character had been through a difficult time since he was a child. This analysis is related to the postcolonial theory proposed by Pieterse and Powell (2016). The use of theory was based on the interpretation in the text and context of the novel. The data was collected from the quotation in the novel. The data collection was in the form of sentences and paragraphs. This research was a descriptive and content analysis study. The result of the study shows that the racial discrimination of African-American character can be seen through violence to African-American and arbitrary Policy on Economic Aspect. In conclusion, in this post-civil rights movement era, African-Americans still face racial discrimination. It seeks to show first, that the traditional readings of Blake’s Works which analysed his poetry and visual art separately have failed to articulate their ontological dimensions and did not come to terms with the energetics of Blake’s oeuvre that consists mainly of creating parallel universes. The paper, later, focuses on the interface between the words, the image and the rhythm in Alex Robinson’s “London” (2008) which suggested a new way of understanding Blake’s London and the world in general. The choice of the mode through which to re-introduce what was written is at the crux of the “re-writing” process and music is one of the most persuasive modes in what Gunther Kress and Theo Van Leeuwen refer to as “multimodal communication.” The multimodal discourse accentuates the importance of the different modes of communication including the word, sound, image, rhythm and colour, and stresses the importance of their added meanings; hence my choice of multimodal semiotic analysis for this paper.","PeriodicalId":42230,"journal":{"name":"Asiatic-IIUM Journal of English Language and Literature","volume":"140 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77726871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Critics have hotly debated whether or not he is a Nature-poet. This paper intends to examine the claim of Frost being a Nature-poet with an ecocritical perspective. We will review The Tuft of Flowers to understand whether or not he can be called Nature-poet. Humans have been writing poems about Nature for centuries and Frost has also described hills, mountains, valleys, rivers, forests, woods, flowers, animals, seasons, and seasonal changes in his poems in a beautiful way, but does description of flora and fauna in the poem makes the poet a Nature-poet has been studied in this paper.","PeriodicalId":42230,"journal":{"name":"Asiatic-IIUM Journal of English Language and Literature","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87306104","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Even after more than 70 years of achieving Independence, the Dalits are bearing the brunt of torture and humiliation at the hand of upper caste people in many states in India. Dalits, being born in lower castes, are the worst target of embarrassment, dishonour, torture and discrimination. They have been inflicted violence physically or mentally in such a cruel manner that their whole identity is trampled underfoot. For centuries their life has been an epic of traumatic experiences. Their survival was possible at the behest of upper caste people who otherwise treated them like beasts. The wishes and dreams of the Dalits didn’t matter as they had no right to dream for a world of joy and progress. With the passage of time, people in the Dalit community realised the traumatic situation and sufferings of their brethren and decided to give voice through literature to the worst kind of sufferings they had to undergo. It is painfully surprising to think how Dalits were made to bear silently the humiliation and ill-treatment. If one comes across the excruciating accounts of pain and trauma poured down in Dalit literature, one can easily feel the immeasurable pain. Their afflictions are laid open barely before the readers just to make them feel how they will feel, in turn, if they happen to replace their position.","PeriodicalId":42230,"journal":{"name":"Asiatic-IIUM Journal of English Language and Literature","volume":"224 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85958367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
