However, PV designers usually base the system sizing on rule-of-thumbs or rough estimations, which implies losing the opportunity of developing more cost-effective installations with the same system components. In this paper, a sizing case study in Aguascalientes, central México, is analyzed based on solar irradiance and ambient temperature data of 10 years. A crystalline silicon PV module and a state-of-the-art string inverter are characterized to model the rated energy yield of typical trading/industrial grid-connected PV systems. An economic objective function is proposed to optimize the system size, which accounts for the cost of inverters, cost of the rest of elements of the system and cost of electricity for the customer. Results indicate that array-to-inverter power sizing ratios between 1.13 and 1.19 as a function of the system costs can optimize the profitability. The study can be replicated to other locations, PV module technologies and grid-connected inverters.","PeriodicalId":422068,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Mexican Humanitarian Technology Conference (MHTC)","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125708985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article develops a method of hybrid curves, which are supported on the tangent and secant curves, based on the Hough transform. A standardized system is formulated with a subset of data that are operated and extracted automatically from the vein image for index finger to save the characteristic information in terms of the angle. Proposal has some advantages, over other methods, as a low approach in terms of computational cost and a robust system test with the obtained percentage in the results.","PeriodicalId":422068,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Mexican Humanitarian Technology Conference (MHTC)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124741131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this concept, a single row of eight pins slides laterally on a rail to display tactile information as a traditional upwards/downwards pin-matrix display does. The advantage of this concept is that a row of N pins can display some information that has been traditionally done with a matrix of N × N, thus, reducing significantly the number of actuators, simplifying their electronic drive, and allowing the development of low-cost, lightweight, compact, and highly-portable tactile displays. A first prototype has been developed using miniature DC motors to actuate the tactile pins along an 18 mm length rail at a 1 Hz refreshable bandwidth. Actuator, tactile display design, and prototype as well as user perceptual results are presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":422068,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Mexican Humanitarian Technology Conference (MHTC)","volume":"16 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132870290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These types of systems tend to use a fixed structure with an optimal orientation for the assembly of the photovoltaic modules. Based on this concept, if it is necessary to increase the production of energy, the number of photovoltaic modules should be increased, which has an impact in the cost of the system. The present investigation explores the possibility of increasing the energy production without having to add more photovoltaic modules, through the use of a mobile solar tracking system attached to the off-grid photovoltaic system. In order for this concept to be useful, it is necessary for the tracking system to have a low cost. This article describes the practical implementation of an off-grid photovoltaic system with a low cost solar tracking system. Two design related decisions were taken in order to reduce costs: first, to implement a tracker with an only axis north-south with an optimal tilt (21° for Aguascalientes), which simplifies the mechanical design in respect to a two axis tracking; second, to divide the daily movement of the actuator in 10 steps, instead of performing a continuous movement, which simplifies the electrical control. The prototype has a monitoring system that can measure the increments in terms of solar irradiation capture in respect to a fixed structure system. The measurements of four full operational days are presented as results, as well as the prototype implementation costs table.","PeriodicalId":422068,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Mexican Humanitarian Technology Conference (MHTC)","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134086920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This constant need is a disadvantage for anyone with some kind of disability, specially those that suffer motor disabilities. Electric wheelchairs are part of the technological solutions to this demand. However, their cost are very high in constrast to mechanical wheelchairs. In that sense, this paper aims to present a new module device that can be used for converting a mechanical wheelchair to an electrical one. The proposed device was designed for simplicity in installation, high benefit-cost ratio and easiness in control movement. Preliminary results showed the implementation of the proposal in a functional prototype.","PeriodicalId":422068,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Mexican Humanitarian Technology Conference (MHTC)","volume":"225 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130031492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
