To remain effective and efficient, they must respond quickly to changing employee needs by implementing appropriate HRM practices. The purpose of the study was to assess the influence of career development practices on job performance in the county government of Nakuru. This study was anchored on Equity Theory. The study employed an explanatory research design since the design focuses on studying a situation or problem to explain the relationships between variables. The target population for this study was all 2411 employees from the county government of Nakuru County's various departments. Using Nassiuma's formula for sample determination, a sample of 96 was obtained, which was allocated proportionately across the county departments. In this study, questionnaires were used to collect data since they are simple and time-saving for both the researcher and the respondents, and they allow for rapid contact with a large number of respondents. The questionnaire was piloted to ensure its reliability and validity. Data collected were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software (version 23). Correlation findings showed that career development [r = .703**, p=.000] had a positive and significant correlation with job performance. Furthermore, the overall model was statistically significant (F = 76.133, p=.000), indicating that career development practices were a significant predictor of job performance. The study concluded that career development significantly influenced job performance. The study recommends the need to address aspects of career plateau amongst employees as most county structures are static, which may lead to low morale.

In view of this, the purpose of this study was to explore the perspectives of teachers in teaching dyslexic learners at the intermediate phase in mainstream primary schools. A qualitative research approach was utilised in the study. This offered participants an opportunity to freely reveal their opinions on the phenomenon under investigation. The population for this study comprised teachers who taught classes with both dyslexic and non-dyslexic learners at the intermediate phase. Purposive sampling was used to select twenty-four teachers with a minimum of three years of teaching experience from the eight schools under study. Semi-structured interviews were used to gather data from the research participants. Data were analysed thematically. The study established that dyslexic learners face diverse reading, writing and arithmetic challenges and these affect their overall academic performance. The study recommends that teachers should consider the preferred learning styles of individuals with dyslexia in their planning and delivery of academic content.

This article examines how masking is used as a metaphor to critique Nigeria's leadership crisis using a semiotic analysis of the verbal-visual messages contained in two political cartoons, Opaque Style and Oracle on Lockdown, by prominent Nigerian cartoonist Mike Asukwo. Operating within the contextual frames of opacity and oracular silence, masking is metaphorically applied in the cartoons to show the apparent disconnect between the ruling class and the masses. A connotative reading of the verbal and visual messages employed in the cartoons constructs images that portray political leaders in Nigeria as people who are secretive, deceptive, indifferent, and lacking in empathy. While a comparative view of fashion styles is used to humorously anchor the message and satire in Opaque Style, in Oracle on Lockdown, these are expressed through the use of the oracular practice.

Bi-annual research symposia always share this thematic message. Statutory instruments establishing Zimbabwe technical universities explicitly support R-I synergy. The Constitution of Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC), registered under the Research Act Chapter 10:22, supports the commercialisation of research output. The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZIs) supports the call for synergy by establishing a Standing Committee on research and development (R&D). Despite this noble call, a moral synergy between R and I seems to have been resisted. This prompted this author to pursue doctoral studies to find out why a moral synergy between research and industry has been repetitively resisted. Theories that guided the research included: \u0000 \u0000The Stage-Gate ® Process, where novelty, teamwork and customer service are prioritised, \u0000The Technology Diffusion, which gives paths for innovations to be successfully transferred from academia into industry, \u0000The Triple Helix, which shares the relationships among academia, industry and the Government and \u0000The Systems Approach, which places emphasis on a holistic view and the feedback extent \u0000 \u0000Mixed methods methodology was the chosen research paradigm, with qualitative component dominating (QUAL-QUANT). Researchers and experts working in both industry and academia were covered. According to the study, both academia and industry admit that synergy was very low, between 30 and 40%. Neither side was working to mitigate the negative position. Novelty, teamwork, customer audience and emphasis on feedback were rare. For students choosing pragmatism paradigm in their studies, they: \u0000 \u0000Should have all necessary authorisations ready \u0000Must have a thorough knowledge of the subject area they have chosen so they ask essential questions \u0000Must be prepared to land into some past 'storm' \u0000Observe ethics \u0000Have a strong command of philosophical foundations. \u0000 \u0000It was also found out that the moral synergy between research and industry was low due to circumstances beyond academia and industry control. Skills flight, poor infrastructure support (energy supply, ICT, absence of laboratory instruments/consumables), limited exposure to best practices and absence of mentors weighed in negatively. However, the lessons learnt led to the identification of x-factor aspects that needed attention for moral research-industry synergy to be realised.

Migration, which is a form of geographic mobility involving a permanent or semi-permanent change of usual residence within 10 years, is rapidly on the increase worldwide. This research intends to undertake further exposition of all the activities of the incessant migration and brain drain, which impacts adversely on needed man-power for economic development in Nigeria. The work is anchored on push-pull theories of migration. Push-pull theory is an important theoretical approach that is often used to understand human capital migration. The theory proposes that there are factors responsible for the decisions of migrants to move from their places of origin to new destinations. In Nigeria, there are environmental, social, political, demographic, and economic factors that influence people to move from one geographical location to the other. Since the post-colonial era, Nigeria has been experiencing missed opportunities, low development, and frustrated hope. The research thus concluded that the failure of governance is seen in poor socio-economic performance, causing suffering and unfulfilled expectations leading to political instability, conflict, insurgency, etc. These conditions have led to massive migration of trained professionals like doctors, nurses, engineers, and academics to developed countries. To this extent, the following recommendations were made: \u0000 \u0000Creation of job opportunities, \u0000Provision of quality educational opportunities, \u0000Provision of local incentives, \u0000Provision of conducive environment for workers, \u0000Funding of tertiary institutions, \u0000Accountability in governance, amongst others. \u0000

This was in the light of concern that secondary schools in the aforementioned sub-County had been posting low mean scores annually, and Teachers’ Professional Knowledge and Practice are key. The study was based on goal-setting theory. A causal-comparative research design was used. The target population included: all public secondary schools, teachers, and principals. To get the sample size, simple and stratified sampling techniques were employed. The research instruments used were: questionnaires, interview schedules, and document analysis. Experts were consulted to determine validity, and a test-retest was used for reliability. Data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, mean scores, and standard deviations. To test the hypothesis, Pearson Product Moment of Correlation was used. The findings were that: somehow, TPAD had been implemented in the schools. In the Extra County category of schools, girls performed better academically. The mean scores of County girls' and boys' schools were very low. Teachers affirmed that they used, to a small extent, appropriate instructional methods such as group work, assignments, and discussion. \u0000

The introduction of Free Secondary Education brought massive financial calamities, and most schools are operating negatively in relation to cost. The objectives were to examine the type of IGAs engaged in public secondary schools in Nyamira County and to ascertain the factors influencing the performance of income-generating Activities in public secondary schools in Nyamira County. This research used Resource Dependence Theory. The study embraced a descriptive research design. Target population was 5 County education officers, 147 principals, 1076 teachers, and 37,070 students in Nyamira County. The researcher purposefully sampled 5 County Education Officers. Simple random sampling was embraced to get 15 Principals, 108 teachers, and finally 240 students. A total of 368 respondents took part in this investigation. Interview schedules and research questionnaires were used to gather data. Piloting of the instrument was done. The data were gathered through editing, coding, tabulating, and then analyzed, and SPSS 23 was applied. Quantitative data were displayed by descriptive statistics like tables. The qualitative data were presented in narrations. The research revealed that income-generating activities contribute immensely to the financial performance of learning institutions in Nyamira County. The research revealed that participation in IGAs is done in many schools with activities like crop cultivation, livestock rearing, school bus hiring, renting school premises, and agro-forestry. Numerous factors, such as the size of the project, school liquidity, inadequate finances, politics, supervision, operating costs, management capacity, and level of development in learning institutions, influenced income-generating activities in schools. The study recommends that a policy framework on income-generating activities to engage in should be formulated, regular training to equip teachers with skills to manage income-generating activities, proper record keeping should be embraced to ensure there is accountability in learning institutions, the ministry of education should encourage schools to partner with different agencies and sponsors to finance in this county and beyond.

An individual randomized trial design comprising weekly home visits for 3 months in four locations of Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau state, was adopted. The eligible malnourished children were identified through a door–to–door survey using standard procedures of anthropometric measurements (weight, height, mid-upper arm circumference) and children with body mass index (BMI) < 16Kg/m2 were selected. A focus group discussion session, follow-up home visitation on weekly and monthly facilitation/support of mother-to-mother, weekly distribution of food supplements, home stimulation environment through the provision of WASH material and age-specific psychosocial stimulation activities were part of intervention strategies adopted for the study. The result shows a significant difference between base-line and end-line data, impacted by integrated package delivery which enhanced and improved nutritional and developmental outcomes of malnourished children over the period of intervention. Furthermore, the findings reveal that there is a non-significant difference among the study groups. However, the observed effect on outcomes based on average BMI indicators is at causal pathways to improve child nutritional status outcomes. The study concludes that the integrated intervention package improved the developmental and nutritional outcomes in malnourished children. Implementation of these integration packages over a longer duration is needed to witness a significant improvement.

Governance Sustainability Reporting (GSR) in Nigeria, as affected by firm-specific attributes, was investigated. To understudy the effect, ex-post facto research design, non-probability (purposive) sampling technique, and Panel regression estimation were employed with reliance on the annual report (secondary data) of listed 112 Non-Financial Firms (NFF) from 2012-2021, out of which 82 firms were selected. Also, Hausman test (fixed effect) was conducted using E-views. The findings of the study show that board diligence and board independence have positive significant effects on the governance disclosure index, while profitability has a negative insignificant effect on the governance disclosure index of NFF in Nigeria. According to the findings, the Governance sustainability reporting of listed NFF in Nigeria is significantly influenced by firm-specific attributes. Therefore, the study recommends that board diligence and independence in terms of board meeting frequency and independent directors be encouraged because it positively affects the governance sustainability reporting of NFF listed in Nigeria Exchange Group.
