During the year, 438 WSHGs were deregistered. Among them, 48% were deregistered for continued dormancy, 21% due to poor financial management, 12% due to withdrawal of members incapacitating the SHGs functions while the rest (19%) for other reasons such as mutual agreement among members to deregister the group, internal disputes, and successful achievements of Group objectives. In the 2018/19 financial year, the Uwezo Fund funded 102 women Self-Help Groups in Nakuru West Sub-County, disbursing a total of three hundred million Kenya Shillings to fund incoming generating activities. However, the fund had no significant impact on women's empowerment as most of the funds dispersed were either misappropriated or channeled to other family issues rather than being used to empower the women. The general objective of the study was to establish the influence of social empowerment on the sustainability of women Self Help Groups projects in Nakuru West Sub-County, Kenya. Specifically, the study sought to assess the influence of Training of members, Stakeholders' Involvement, and Leadership on the sustainability of women Self Help Group projects in Nakuru West Sub-County, Kenya. The study was guided by the following theories and models: Grow Training Model, Sustainable Business Models, Dunham and Pierce's Leadership Process Model, and Stakeholders Theory This study utilized a Cross section research design. The unit of analysis was 176 women Self-Help Groups in Nakuru West Social Development Office. The unit of observation was 176 chairpersons of women Self-Help Groups in Nakuru West Sub-County. Another unit of observation was 5 officers in Nakuru West Social Development Office. Since the target population was manageable, the study adopted a census technique to include all the 176 targeted chairpersons of women Self-Help Groups and 5 officers in Nakuru West Social Development Office. Research data was collected using primary data. Primary data was collected using questionnaires and interviews to collect data from the respondents. Questionnaires were used to collect data from 176 chairpersons of women Self-Help Groups in Nakuru West Sub-County. A pilot study was undertaken in Njoro Sub-County. The validity of the questionnaire was examined using content validity, while the reliability of the questionnaires was evaluated through Cronbach's Alpha which measures internal consistency. Data were edited, coded, and entered into Statistical Package for Social Science version 25. The resulting data were then analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. This was later presented using a frequency table. The study revealed that the group has a well-structured leadership framework. The study also revealed that the leadership structure determines the flow of information, which affects the sustainability of women SHGs projects. The study concluded that there exists a positive an","PeriodicalId":421273,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121104684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of work-life balance practices (administrative adherence to leave policies, supportive work environment by the school administration, make-up time, and job sharing) on teachers' performance in public secondary schools in Homa-Bay County, Kenya. The variables of the study were discussed in relation to spillover theory. The study used a descriptive survey design. The sample included 320 teachers from 74 schools. Simple and stratified random sampling techniques were used. Questionnaires were used to collect data. Content validity was tested through expert judgement. Test re-test was used to test reliability. The reliability of the questionnaire instrument was 8.5. The study used Pearson correlation coefficient, ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis in the data analysis. The study established that work-life balance leads to an increase in teachers' performance. The study concluded that WLB translates to productivity and that people who combine all aspects of their life in a balanced manner are satisfied with their jobs. The study recommended, among others, that institutions invest in more work-life balance practices to enable teachers to maintain a healthy balance between work and their private lives. It is also recommended that policies and structures that enhance the WLB of teachers should be promoted. Additionally, it is recommended that the Teachers Service Commission should support regulations on work-life balance practices to improve teacher performance.","PeriodicalId":421273,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126775983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through charisma, vision, and sheer willpower, transformational leaders try to mould society into their own image. They want to envision society as a better environment for all people. Religious scholars, sociologists, and political economists have always wondered how transformative leadership traits and social action are related. Accordingly, this study sought to delve deeper into the relationship between transformational leadership and social action. Specifically, it examined the relationship between transformational attributes and social action in MCK Kaaga Synod. The objectives of the study are: To examine the practice of transformational leadership To examine the influence of church-initiated social action among the residents within the geographical area of Mck kaaga Synod To is to examine the relationship that exists between transformational leadership and social action This study used a descriptive survey design with qualitative and quantitative approaches. The descriptive survey approach was used since it thoroughly describes the issue under exploration. It is especially useful in studies where there is a need to gather information, summarize, present, and interpret the data. The study population comprised the 6771 church leaders in MCK Kaaga synod. The sample size was 384, randomly selected using Cochran's sample size formula. Through the use of surveys and an interview schedule, data were gathered. A mixed method approach combining both qualitative and quantitative methodologies was used for the data analysis. Themes and patterns were used to analyse qualitative data, while descriptive statistics for percentages and mean were used to analyse quantitative data. A P-value cut-off of 0.05 was used as the benchmark for predictive value while analysing the association between the variables using linear regression. After analysis, the data were presented in tables and figures. The study established that transformational leadership attributes have a significant, positive relationship with charisma, having a regression coefficient of 0.0123 p<0.005, and social influence with a coefficient of 0.024, p<0.005.Moreover, the vision was positively correlated with social action programmes, with a regression coefficient of 0.0431, p<0.005. Additionally, a delegation was positively correlated with social action programmes, with a regression coefficient of 0.0254, p<0.005, with executional distribution, and has a significant relationship with social action programmes in MCK Kaaga synod, with r=0.0422, p<0.005. However, the transformational leadership attribute of transactional has no significant relationship with social action, with r=0.0.0647, p<0.005 in MCK Kaaga synod.","PeriodicalId":421273,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126079486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study employed the Impoverishment, Risks, and Reconstruction (IRR) model developed in the late 1990s by the World Bank and coined by Michael Cernea (2002). It provides a conceptual tool for identifying the inherent risks that may cause impoverishment through involuntary displacement and resettlement. He identified 8 risks of Involuntary Resettlement (IR) namely: landlessness, joblessness, homelessness, marginalization, food insecurity, social disarticulation, increased morbidity & mortality, and loss of common access to common property and services. Andnet Gizachew refined it in 2015 to include other risks of IR that Cernea did not capture in his model, which are: Carelessness, Constrained community mobility, Loss of resilience, Constrained access to education, and Loss of aspects of human rights This paper attempted to answer the following question: What were the gender-specific outcomes of the IR at Karimenu II dam on the lives and livelihoods of the PAPS?","PeriodicalId":421273,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114322543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study shows that there are two rules to predict the grammatical categories of compounds:Generally speaking, if the head of compounds is the content word, the grammatical categories of compounds are determined by the right-hand words.If the head of compounds is the function word, the grammatical categories of compounds are usually determined by the left-hand words. In addition, there are several rules to determine the stress of compounds. For example, the primary stress of noun compounds is placed on the first element, and light stress is on the second. Also, the meaning of the head of the compound seems to be central to the meaning of the whole compound. The pedagogical implications are also suggested.","PeriodicalId":421273,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116839358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study investigated the effects of smuggling and human trafficking across borders on students' academic performance in economic concepts in Nigeria. The study is underpinned by the Rational Choice Theory within the positivism paradigm. The study was designed using descriptive survey research. Three hundred and twenty (320) respondents comprising male and female SSII & III students formed the sample through the stratified random sampling method to select the state and local governments and schools used for this study. Two (2) self-developed instruments, a student's questionnaire on trans-border trading activities (SQTTA) with a reliability co-efficient of 0.76 and the Economics Achievement Test (E.A.T.) having a reliability co-efficient of 0.84, respectively, were used to draw information from the respondents. Data collected were analyzed using PPMC and Stepwise Regression analysis to test the research questions raised in the study. The results revealed that the involvement of students in smuggling reasonably used clothes, used tyres, and small firearms are strong predictors of factors affecting students' academic performance. At the same time, human trafficking has little or no significant effect on academic performance, a departure from earlier studies. Therefore, the study recommended that future schools not be near border posts.","PeriodicalId":421273,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123114714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It borders Rwanda in the Southwest, Tanzania in the South, Kenya in the east, South Sudan in the north, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the west. Uganda is still suffering from poverty despite many struggles to fight it. Uganda is hosting South Sudan refugees of about 1.5 million people who fled the country due to 2013 and 2016 political wrangling over the leadership among South Sudanese leaders. Most of the displaced people fled and crossed to Uganda, seeking protection as a refugee in northern Uganda. The majority of the refugees were women and children. The districts occupied are Adjumani, Moyo, and Arua in northern Uganda, respectively. Being homeless they had to rely on a ratio that was insufficient to cater to the family.It is not that straightforward to measure the level or degree of poverty. According to Anna Miller (2013), measuring poverty among refugees requires long periods. If we were to count all people below a certain poverty line at a particular time, we would know only half of the story behind those poor. Someone can fall below the poverty line in one period but climb above it in the next. On the other hand, someone can be persistently below the poverty line. Therefore, it is not enough to take only one snapshot of the scenario. One has to take into account that people can be either chronically or transiently poor and that there are a lot of movements in and out of poverty.According to the World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized sources, Uganda - Poverty gap at $1.25 a day (PPP) - actual values, historical data, forecasts, and projections were sourced from the World Bank in July 2022.","PeriodicalId":421273,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128102795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It narrowed down to the social organisation in the Luhya traditional society and the space women occupied in the same. It further delved into exploring the possibilities of empowerment or disempowerment for women in the social sphere among the Abaluhya. It addressed the aspect of women's agency in the Luhya social organisation, answering the question of what role women played in elevating their position socially. This article was supported by Lesley Ogundipe's African Feminist theory which holds that women had an essential role in the pre-colonial African society and that the structure of the society had room for women empowerment as opposed to the common belief that the African society disempowered women. Data for this study was collected using primary and secondary sources. Primary sources involved oral interviews, while secondary sources focused on analysing existing literature on the topic under study. The study analyzed five major aspects of the Luhya society and the role women played in them, namely: the clan and the family, initiation and marriage, informal education and apprenticeship, traditional religion and sex roles, and division of labour. The study found that women were centrally placed in the social structure of the Luhya society and that while some social aspects empowered them, others disempowered them. The study then concluded by assessing the role of women in elevating their own social status.","PeriodicalId":421273,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125832467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the past, the focus of scholars was on the causes and consequences of war. Little or no attention was given to war termination, ceasefire agreements, the duration of wars, and the stability of peace. With this new theory, it becomes very easy to subject war termination to theoretical explication. This article reviews the theory using the Nigerian civil war to argue that the Biafran surrender during the war was mere war termination and not an end to the war as the underlying issues of the war were never addressed during and after the termination of the war. The article posits that for the state to finally bury the Biafran Ghost, it should endeavor to institutionalize necessary mechanisms to generate harmony and peace among the multifarious ethnic nationalities that make up the country.","PeriodicalId":421273,"journal":{"name":"The International Journal of Humanities & Social Studies","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132649470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
