Whilst there are over fifty providers of e-learning tools and services, the realisation of its potential using existing technologies and organisational infrastructure remains a problem. This paper describes an evaluation of a project in this area, the Intelligent Distributed Virtual Training Environment (INVITE), that supports collaborative learning processes through distributed virtual environments. Through the virtual environment, complex collaborative exercises (which were also valuable to the organisation) were successfully completed. The system enjoyed a high level of user satisfaction. The evaluation demonstrated the utility of the use of social, non-verbal cues in the virtual environment.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002. In all numerical test-examples for mobile network with predicted traffic demands the best possible result is achieved. After that the heuristic is tested through the same test-examples as before, but using various limitations for capacity state values. Only if we apply adequate heuristic approach we can ensure both, significant improvement of QoS (Quality of Service) for capacity availability and minimal capacity expansion cost. It means that our heuristic approach can be successfully applied to short-term or medium-term satellite network planning with finite number of discrete time periods.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002. The proposed system improves many characteristics of previous Grid systems, concerning in particular the distribution of the code and the execution times. The idea behind this work was to use XML to describe algorithms; XML documents are easily distributed and executed using a virtual machine. An assembly-like language, called XML-VM, has been developed in XML. Parsing of the documents are implemented using the parser of Apache XML-RPC while the interpret is written in JAVA. Several algorithms have been written in XML-VM and executed in a distributed environment; representative experimental results are reported.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002. Such solutions require a high level of business and technical expertise in improving processes that bring most benefits. Standard software packages are usually insufficient to support all the particularities of business processes. Therefore, custom-designed modules have been developed. All these various software units must be integrated in a coherent information system. Component-based development is a very promising approach to address such problems. By using software components and consistently separating them according to functions, we increase system flexibility. The paper presents one practical application of this concept.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002.
