We show how students can be encouraged to identify the skills and knowledge they need to complete a mini realworld consultancy task of their own choice, and to reflect upon their experience through different assessment instruments. We then encouraged students to make a personal audit of their own skills and to use the opportunity provided by a real-world case, study to evidence the skills that they perceived were important to them.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002. Incomplete information can be dealt with, and absence of information can be distinguished from negative information, allowing one to discard offers/requests without the necessary properties, and to ask for missing information in the potential matches. The logical approach has been deployed in a prototype system implemented for a particular ontology but easily generalizable. Limits and possibilities of the proposed approach are analyzed and discussed.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002. This upgrade offers a possibility for the students to attend the lectures online during the school year and at the same time possibility to check their knowledge. The system is built on a well structured organization of the testing questions. It is tree organization with multilevel relations between the database elements. The students are classified according to their study area, and they can attend the lectures only for the subjects they are subscribed to. After attending single lecture, in order to pass to the next one, students have to pass through a test which will show if they have obtained the knowledge from that lecture. The organization of the testing questions implements random positioning of the possible answers that gives possibility not to correlate the question with the answer position instead of learning the essence of the task.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002. The ensemble of these specifications provides an information scheme that is useful not only for the improvement of systems' management, but also to allow interoperability among different systems and reusability of learning resources. Taking this information base as the starting point, we have devised an agent-based architecture to provide knowledge-based facilities for distance education systems. Agents take advantage of the standardized semantics of the information to improve the learning process of the learners, both detecting learner problems and recommending new contents that can be suitable for his abilities or skills.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002. Online control is a particularly interesting class of dynamic problems, because of the interactions between the controller and the controlled system. In this paper, we report experimental results on two aspects of the direct control strategy in relation to a crop-producing greenhouse. In the first set of experiments, we investigated how to balance the available computation time between population size and generations. The second experiments were on different control horizons, and showed the importance of this aspect for direct control. Finally, we discuss the results in the wider context of dynamic optimization.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002. It also describes advantages and disadvantages of Java, and gives a critical overview of necessary modifications to make Java an acceptable choice for real-time systems. Because of inherent constraints of existing runtime environments, this paper deals only with a part of complete problem, which was possible to simulate on the existing Java platform. We have developed a modular aperiodic scheduling algorithm simulator. The simulator implements EDF scheduling algorithm, but it can easily be extended to support any aperiodic scheduling algorithm.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002. This may be a significant undertaking. This article proposes an advanced complexity metric of data enquiry function. The advantage of the proposed method over standard methods used in pricing, such as counts of typical outputs, is that it can be applied on complex queries resulting in big data sets. The aim of the proposed method is also to calculate the effort required to create and disseminate required data output in complex and distributed systems.","PeriodicalId":420216,"journal":{"name":"ITI 2002.
