The increase in the percentage of people who have problems with caries in the community caused by bad habits of consuming instant food and energy drinks that can trigger acidic conditions in the mouth. Objective: To determine the relationship between the frequency of consumption of instant food and energy drinks with the prevalence of caries at the age of 15–24 years in West Java in 2018. Methods: This type of research is an analytical observational with design cross-sectional. This study uses secondary data from RISKESDAS 2018. Results: From chi-square test, p-value of 0.568 means that there is no significant relationship between the frequency of consumption of energy drinks and the prevalence of caries, the DMF-T value, while the relationship between the frequency of consumption of instant food and the prevalence of caries is DMF-T with p-value of 0.349 also has no significant relationship. Conclusion: Frequency of consumption of instant food and energy drinks is not the only factor that determines the occurrence of caries.","PeriodicalId":417742,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Gigi","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121634030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The high caries prevalence rate which reaches 81.5% in children aged 3-4 years is still a problem for Indonesia. One of the reasons for the high incidence of caries in preschoolers is the inappropriate pattern of breastfeeding or formula feeding. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between patterns of formula feeding and ECC in preschool children in Ketileng Village, Todanan, Blora. This study used an analytic observational research design with a cross sectional approach. The research sample was 69 respondents using a purposive sampling technique. Data were obtained from the results of dental examinations using the PUFA index and a questionnaire filled out by parents/guardians of students. Data analysis used the chi square statistical test. The results of the study showed duration, duration, frequency of consumption of formula milk, use of bottles/pacifiers, addition of sweeteners to consumption of formula milk and history of breastfeeding up to 2 years of age, each of which showed a value of p 0.05, which means there is a relationship with ECC. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between the pattern of formula feeding and the presence of ECC in preschool children in Ketileng Village, Todanan, Blora.","PeriodicalId":417742,"journal":{"name":"Jurnal Kesehatan Gigi","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127104536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study's experimental group or independent variables were pineapple hump extract, mint leaf extract, and basil leaf extract. The control group was Chlorhexidine and water. The variable is Streptococcus mutans. The extract was made by maceration technique, and the examination of the inhibition of bacteria was carried out using an oxoid blank disc. There was a difference in inhibition against Streptococcus mutans between the experimental and control groups p0.05, but there was no difference between the pineapple hump extract with the addition of min leaf extract and the pineapple weevil extract with the addition of basil leaves. The development of mouthwash can be done by adding active substances derived from local plant materials to increase the ability of the product, one of which is manalagi apple peel. Apples contain several substances that are known to have good benefits for dental and oral health. This situation has become the basis for researchers to develop health products, namely mouthwash or mouthwash. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-bacterial effect of the apple peel extract mouthwash formulation against Streptococcus mutans. This type of research is experimental research. The study design was Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The mouthwash tested in this study consisted of mouthwash A (negative control: mouthwash without extract), mouthwash B (12.5% extract), mouthwash C (25% extract), and mouthwash D (50% extract). ) and mouthwash E (positive control: one of the mouthwash products from the market). Maintaining dental hygiene through tooth brushing is among the ways improving health. Health does not only relate to the normal condition; it is a process of increasing the degree of complete health. Children and adolescents are a particular target group for health education, this is because children have much lower immunity than adults. It takes suitable media to support children's knowledge through learning. The objective of this study is to analyze the significancy of using video as media to improve knowledge of brushing teeth in children aged 8-9 years. Methods: This study used an analytic method of one group pretest-posttest design. The technique of sampling was Accidental Sampling with inclusion criteria. The amount of sample is 35 aged 8-9 years, with the total of 80 respondents. Dental plaque is a soft deposit consisting of microorganisms found on a matrix that is formed and adheres tightly to the tooth surface. Bacteria in plaque will metabolize food waste, especially the type that can be fermented so that it will produce acid. The acid produced will lower the plaque pH to 4.5-5.0 wthin 1-3 minutes and return to normal at pH 7 within 30-60 minutes. Plaque buildup on the tooth surfaces is related to plaque pH salivary pH. The continuous decrease in plaque pH and salivary pH will cause demineralization. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of gargling betel nut extract (Areca catechu L) 2.5% on plaque pH and salivary pH.The study was a quasi-experiment research with two group pretest-posttest design. The sample used in this study were 16 samples, 6th graders at SDN Pontianak Utara using the Total Sampling method. The sample was instructed to rinse with a 2.5 % betel nut extract moutwash solution and measure the plaque pH and salivary pH before and after gargling. The control group rinsed with 1% povidone iodine (Betadine Moutwash). Data analysis using the tes Wilcoxon to find out the difference between the influence variables and the affected variables.The results of this study based on the test were Wilcoxon test, the results showed that the average plaque pH before and after gargling with betel nut extract was 2.5% 7.06 and 7.22 p-value = 0.000 (p 0.05). The average pH of saliva before and after gargling a 2.5% betel nut extract solution was 6.56 and 5.59 p-value = 0.000 (p 0.05). So it can be concluded that gargling 2.5% betel nut extract solution has an effect on changes plaque pH and salivary pH.
