Primarily, it makes a single view definition serving for several different view instances according to the supplied actual parameters. Dynamic binding of parameters for the view allows the definition of recursive relations, such as transitive closure, without using extended operators or procedural constructs such as loops. Using and extended ERA metamodel in a systematic way, transformations from the Database schema into external schemata are classified in four classes, each classes having a number of subclasses. Determining for a specific data model which of these classes and subclasses of external schemata may be derived in that model, one gets a measure of its power in this respect. In this paper, we identify a basic set of such operations and show a formulation of these operations in terms of expressions of predicates that are suitable for processing by a database system. We then describe the operations and properties of a 4-D (four-dimensional) tree structure for efficiently supporting these operations. AIR can store the document data compactly and retrieve them quickly. The techniques bringing AIR to the high efficiency, the data compression, the quick keyword index, and the automatic keyword selection, are discussed. These techniques, which are based on the statistical properties of word occurrence, are fairly simple, so that the information retrieval systems employing them can be implemented with ease. The data compression technique reduces English text by a factor of 4. The quick keyword index decreases the average number of disk accesses to retrieve a keyword to about 0.3. There are many applications, exemplified by office automation, computer-aided design and geographic information systems, that could benefit from management of databases containing the complex objects typically used in programming these systems. We call databases that contain user defined abstract data types object-extended databases. In this paper we examine three aspects of providing support for object-extended databases: their specification, their manipulation by transactions, and access to them via queries. To free the user from the need to know about query languages and databases, and to allow the user to access databases in natural language, KID incorporates a knowledge base called the world model (WM), which contains a domain model, linguistic knowledge, and database mapping knowledge. To transport KID to a new domain, the user has only to build a new WM for the domain; the WM is easy for the user to define and understand. KID's processing of the user's query using the WM is transparent enough to the user to enable easy debugging of the WM. Encapsulating all the domain-specific knowledge into the WM makes KID portable. When SDB users infer protected information in the SDB from responses to queries, we say that the SDB is compromised. Summary tables are tabular representations of summary data. For a given aggregate function and a set of attributes to specify subsets of individuals in the SDB, all possible (primitive) summary tables form a lattice. The SDB security problem in the lattice model is defined as preventing the users to obtain the information that a table element (i.e., cell) is of size one.
