Partiendo de estas consideraciones, investigamos aquí las dinámicas y vivencia de la violencia de género en la pareja en mujeres mayores (VGM). Para ello, realizamos ocho entrevistas en profundidad con mujeres supervivientes, un grupo de discusión con profesionales de recursos específicos y otro con mujeres mayores asociadas. Con respecto a las manifestaciones de la violencia, observamos una disminución de la violencia física y sexual y simultánea intensificación de la violencia psicológica emocional (desprecios y menosprecios). Con respecto a la vivencia subjetiva de la violencia, identificamos un mayor nivel de secretismo, así como un fuerte grado de normalización, habituación, aceptación y resignación. Con referencia al impacto de la violencia, observamos una fuerte intensificación del daño en la salud emocional y física. Estos resultados reflejan la existencia de especificidades en la VGM, que remiten fundamentalmente a los efectos de la intersección entre el sexismo y el edadismo que permean nuestra sociedad.","PeriodicalId":41447,"journal":{"name":"RASP-Research on Ageing and Social Policy","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42796920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the significance of friendship for the silver generation has received limited attention from gerontological studies in India. Considering that widowhood is accompanied by loneliness, bereavement and stigma, I am interested to understand the implications of widowhood for elderly women and to what extent friendship has the potential in countering and negotiating with ageing and widowhood. This is further important in demystifying the myth of transient nature of female friendship and illuminate on the spaces of female solidarity. The study has incorporated qualitative interviewing and oral narratives administered through semi-structured questionnaire conducted in the setting of the respective residence of the respondents. It was found that the social context of ageing and the structural context shape the experiences of friendship. Friendship can be low maintenance for these women; however a friend is one through interaction with whom one derives equanimity contentment and meaning for leading life without the presence of spouse. They challenged the notion of normative understanding of friendship by identifying kin members sometimes across generations as friends. Female friendship is not fragile and they feel that it is more intense and laden with emotions compared to male friendship.","PeriodicalId":41447,"journal":{"name":"RASP-Research on Ageing and Social Policy","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2020-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47338121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article discusses the condition of senior citizens in the Philippines during the COVID-19 crisis. The review showed that various enabling laws have been enacted to secure the welfare of senior citizens. However, the current crisis revealed issues such as deprivation of income sources, inaccessibility to essential needs, inadequate physical space, and unspoken negative perceptions, which all greatly affect the senior citizens. Thus, to implement the laws and solve the issues, shared efforts should focus to improve social pension payout, guidelines for mobility, different approaches of remote access to essential goods and services, and meaningful internet connectivity in the context of senior citizens.","PeriodicalId":41447,"journal":{"name":"RASP-Research on Ageing and Social Policy","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2020-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42061880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Benefits of friendship on health have been demonstrated. Less is known about the role of friendship on seniors. The aim of this case study has been to show how the end friendship developed in an adults’ school operating for more than 40 years in Barcelona is having a positive impact on the well-being and health of their participants. Through the communicative discussion group, we have deepened in the trajectories of some of the school participants. The results show how participation in the school and the dialogic gatherings have contributed to the emergence of a non-instrumental friendship feeling and to consider an impact on the perceived general wellness and health and an improvement of their life quality. It is discussed how this research provides more elements to the existing literature. More research on how other communitarian environments have similar effects on this population, or on the impact of these dialogical spaces in the development of end friendships in other stages of the life cycle would be of interest.","PeriodicalId":41447,"journal":{"name":"RASP-Research on Ageing and Social Policy","volume":"159 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2020-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41315412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El objetivo de este analisis es evaluar la dependencia para las Actividades Basicas de la Vida diaria como factor pronostico despues de sufrir una fractura de cadera. Para ello, se realizo el analisis prospectivo de 428 pacientes ingresados por fractura de cadera en nuestro centro entre los anos 2015 y 2017. Se evaluo el grado de autonomia mediante el indice de Barthel previo al ingreso, la aparicion de complicaciones durante el ingreso y la mortalidad a los 6 meses y al ano. Un 43,6% de los pacientes presentaban dependencia grave el ingreso segun la escala de Barthel. La mortalidad a los 6 meses de seguimiento fue del 24% de los pacientes y el ano del 33,5%. El estudio de regresion logistica muestra que sufrir dependencia grave en la escala de Barthel al ingreso es factor de riesgo de muerte a los 6 meses (p = 0,047) y el ano (p = 0,043). La dependencia grave al alta tambien se asocia a la mortalidad a los 6 meses (p <0,001). Por otra parte, no sufrir dependencia es un factor protector de mortalidad a los 6 meses (p = 0,023).","PeriodicalId":41447,"journal":{"name":"RASP-Research on Ageing and Social Policy","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47109463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, based on official data provided by the Time Use Survey (TUS) and the Household Budget Survey (HBS), an effort has been made to identify, through multivariate models, the individual factors that determined certain expressions of family solidarity and their participation and intensity of time and money transfers among family members in one of the most critical moments of this crisis in Spain (2009/2010). The results question the idea that the unemployed and the retired have been net recipients during the crisis, revealing that it is insufficient to consider only a single manifestation of solidarity, the financial one, when accounting for the wide range of support and transfers that circulate among family members.","PeriodicalId":41447,"journal":{"name":"RASP-Research on Ageing and Social Policy","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42544460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method used was a cross-sectional study with 1140 elderly individuals aged 60 and older of both sexes interviewed in years 2013 and 2014 in Florianópolis, Brazil. The prevalence and dimensions of violence were measured using the Hawlek-Sengstock Elder Abuse Screening Test. To test the association of violence with health conditions, a bivariate and multivariate logistic regression model was applied; the analyzes were stratified by sex. A high prevalence of violence against the elderly (25,7%) was found, regarding the dimensions of violence, potential abuse (56,1% p = 0,039) and violation of personal rights or direct abuse (31,9% p = 0,012) was higher among males compared to females, while the vulnerability characteristics were higher in both sexes and did not present statistical difference between them (p = 0,857). We highlight the relevance of depressive symptoms among health conditions, which increased the chance of suffering violence about three times for both men and women. We hope that the evidence presented may support effective actions to prevent violence against the elderly.","PeriodicalId":41447,"journal":{"name":"RASP-Research on Ageing and Social Policy","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46002154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El modelo etnogerontologico se distingue por ser mas incluyente, se pueden apreciar diversas formas de envejecer, fenomeno explicado como respuesta a influencias sociodemograficas mundiales. El modelo de antropologia de la globalizacion, se caracteriza por la emergencia de nuevos viejos en un mundo globalizado. La metodologia se basa principalmente en analisis cualitativo, auxiliada de informacion sociodemografica que permitio clasificar y distinguir como se ha estudiado la vejez. Asi, las investigaciones de corte etnografico cubren un periodo de 1940 a 1999 y se ocupa de estudiar el poder ejercido por los viejos masculinos a traves de la gerontocracia; los estudios etnogerontologicos abarcan del ano 2000 a 2016, y dan cuenta de la heterogeneidad de la vejez.
