It provides services to applications which run on virtual machines. MEC services include access to radio network information. The communications between MEC services and applications are according to the principles of Service-oriented Architecture (SOA). In this paper, we propose an approach to design Web Services that provide access to radio network information and may be used for dynamic Quality of Service control of data sessions. Some Web Services implementation issues are discussed.","PeriodicalId":413939,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Internet of Things Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130385163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All the activities have been developed, investigated and evaluated within EU CHIST-ERA eGlasses project (http://www.eglasses.eu/). The technological platform of the eGlasses provides a software API to control all input / output devices and to support standardized wireless communication with other Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The software libraries support data processing functions, including evaluation of heart rate from a video sequence, eye tracking in reference to the front camera images, and other AAL-related applications. It was shown that such measurements like ECG, EEG, EMG, and respiration waveform can also be measured using electrodes located on or near the frame of the smart glasses.","PeriodicalId":413939,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Internet of Things Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129058058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve efficient spectrum usage in the IoT systems, it is desired to have the ability of dynamic spectrum allocation. Cognitive radios (CR) enable efficient spectrum utilization by performing spectrum sensing to gain the knowledge of current spectrum occupancy and dynamically reconfiguring the communication parameters, making them highly suitable for IoT systems. In this paper, we present the efficient hardware implementation of a spectrum sensing scheme for CR based IoT applications that require large bandwidth. We show that the proposed implementation on field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) can achieve over 1.56x improvement in performance, while consuming 77% less generic resources and at a fractionally higher power consumption.","PeriodicalId":413939,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Internet of Things Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131233003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since cameras often capture highly sensitive information, security is a major concern. Our approach towards data security for smart cameras is rooted on protecting the captured images by signcryption based on elliptic curve cryptography (ECC). Signcryption achieves resource-efficiency by performing data signing and encryption in a single step. By running the signcryption on the sensing unit, we can relax some security assumptions for the camera host unit which typically runs a complex software stack. We introduce our system architecture motivated by a typical case study for camera-based IoT applications, evaluate security properties and present performance results of an ARM-based implementation.","PeriodicalId":413939,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Internet of Things Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"170 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114406499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the Internet of Things (IoT), delegated authorization mechanisms are necessary to relieve constrained devices from the duty of identity management and access control tasks. Smart cities require new user-centric authorization approaches for IoT devices that preserve user privacy while guaranteeing scalability and efficiency. This paper introduces SMARTIE, an integrating platform for user-centric, secure IoT applications. SMARTIE efficiently provides decentralized access control for IoT devices based on user privacy preferences.","PeriodicalId":413939,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Internet of Things Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127585432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Identity-based Signature (IBS) is originally proposed for direct authentication via individual entities without a centralized public certification authority. Applying IBS into IoT, especially for IoT terminals with constrained resources, is the main focus of this paper. Meanwhile, the overall proposal is under the framework of ID Oriented Networking (ION), which fully drives the IBS's potential for IoT with an intrinsic security mechanism. Accordingly, this paper presents the detailed implementations, and also shows analysis and future work.","PeriodicalId":413939,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Internet of Things Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125321345","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the use of clustering algorithms applied to large amounts of geo-tagged data generated in social-networks is foreseen to become an interesting course of action. This will help to comprehensively capture and understand the movement of people in large spatial regions. Due to the nature of this kind of data (with high levels of uncertainty and noise) soft-computing owns the necessary characteristics to extract accurate mobility models. The present work introduces a novel approach to extract personal mobility patterns by means of the fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm. A preliminary study with a real Twitter database is also included.","PeriodicalId":413939,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Internet of Things Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115115032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, many indoor localization systems for people and things have been proposed. However, such systems require a large amount of localization equipment or advanced measurements of environmental physical characteristics, and thus they strongly depend on the infrastructure for localization. In this paper, we propose SmartFinder as a solution with extremely low dependence on the infrastructure. This localization system applies our previously proposed Cloud-based Self-Organizing Localization to mobile smart devices, such as smartphones carried by people and BLE devices attached to things. SmartFinder can track the location of many mobile smart devices with only three anchor nodes and in real time.","PeriodicalId":413939,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Internet of Things Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129378798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Scalability is improved by performing video analytics on cloudlets at the edge of the Internet, and only shipping extracted index information and meta-data to the cloud. In this setting, we describe interactive data exploration (IDE), which refers to human-in-the-loop content-based retrospective search using predicates that may not have been part of any prior indexing. We also describe a new technique called just-in-time indexing (JITI) that improves response times in IDE.","PeriodicalId":413939,"journal":{"name":"2017 Global Internet of Things Summit (GIoTS)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126117326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
