Biofilms adhere to biotic or abiotic surfaces and house mono or poly cell communities and allow them to survive hostile environments. This systematic review intends to discuss biofilm inhibitory effects of various citrus fruits against nosocomial pathogens and its phytochemical contents. Materials and Methods: Studies focusing on biofilm inhibition in nosocomial pathogens, those that were able to inhibit the biofilm, citrus fruit available in the Philippines, studies that utilized solvent for obtaining the citrus extract, and those that were written in English were sought. All available findings obtained from the filtered studies under the said criteria were further analyzed, and then sorted out. Results: Of the seven studies, with one study utilizing two extracts; two extracts were able to completely inhibit biofilm growth at 100%; while one was able to inhibit at 90%; another was able to inhibit at 81%; followed by 68% inhibition; then two extracts were able to inhibit biofilm at 53.85%; lastly was at 50%. Conclusion: Rutin was shown to be able to downregulate luxS gene and wabG gene which are responsible for quorum-sensing and capsular polysaccharide respectively. Naringin exhibited reduce exopolysaccharide (EPS) and biofilm biomass. Lastly of the flavonoids, naringenin downregulates tfB , gtfC , comD , comE , and luxS expression which are essential in the formation of biofilm. Limonin, a type of limonoid, was suggested to target and disrupt cell-to-cell signaling of a biofilm. Limonene, a monoterpene, acts by reducing the attachment of a biofilm to surfaces.","PeriodicalId":413740,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Biological and Life sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115796256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to a study, Degeneracy of genetic code helps an organism to prosper on earth. Each amino acid is encoded by triplet codes of four possible (Guanine (G), Adenine (A), Cytosine (C), or Thymine (T/U)) bases. The genetic codon degeneracy occurs mainly due to the variance in third position e.g. the amino acids Glycine is encoded by four codons GGU, GGC, GGA, GGG differ only in third base. Taking part of more than one tri nucleotides sequence out of 64 triplets to encode one amino acids lead to the concept of Degeneracy. In this manuscript we formulate a new classifying technique with the help of cosine similarities to explain the degeneracy. Further we have done a comparison of our method with an existing classification technique. The consequences of our results open a new paradigm to study the genetics from a new mathematical perspective. The disassortative nature of codons networks may help us to understand the flow of genetic information in the evolution process of amino acids.","PeriodicalId":413740,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Biological and Life sciences","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126450771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The unique geographical zone and the physical-climatic features of the various biogeographic area resulted in the remarkable floral diversity of India. Bryophytes are small imaged amphibians with three different lineages such as liverworts, hornworts and moss. The category moss represents the largest group with more number of species. The present study aims to compile Bryum species of India based on all the available literature and information from herbaria of various organizations. Bryum is one of the largest genus among the moss species with morpho-plasticity of characters. Leaves form the unique character of the species, but a high discrepancy in leaves is recorded among the various species of the genus therefore it is wise to select other features unless it is established on specimens of diverse ecology. Sporophytic characters are ideal, but in most species, they remained unexplored as compared to the gametophytic datay. Similarly, the sporophytic capsules are highly diverse in size and their configuration is often irregular with abnormal peristomial characters. Further, the spores are diverse in size and shape. More than 45 species were recorded by various bryologists from India. Many species are similar in look with confusing characters. Therefore, revision of Bryum is warranted to eliminate the overlapping and complex allied clusters among the reported species.","PeriodicalId":413740,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Biological and Life sciences","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131573160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aquaculture sector is known as a fast-emerging business today. It is one of the significant concerning sectors with the emerging ESBL-producing K. pneumoniae due to its complex treatment and easy-transfer genes. This mini-review aims to determine the emergence of bla - CTX-M and bla - TEM genes in ESBL-producing K. pneumoniae found in aquaculture within Southeast Asia. All qualified journals considered have been conscientiously examined and passed the mini-review criteria; 8 eligible studies from Southeast Asia from 2016 to 2021 were utilized. Among the eight journals, five out of the eight studies have displayed the detection of the bla - CTX-M gene found within freshwater, fish markets, and integrated farming systems in Thailand and India, with a prevalence of 44.38% and 33.73%, respectively. The remaining three studies display bla - TEM genes found in freshwater, retail markets, and freshwater aquaculture in Hongkong and the Philippines, with a prevalence of 19.53% and 2.37%. Within Southeast Asia, 37.50% account for the bla - TEM gene, while 62.50% account for bla - CTX-M , making it the most pervasive gene found within Southeast Asia. Despite the fact that these treatments appeared to be extremely effective against cancer cells, these non-selective therapies often lead to the failure of many biological processes, resulting in serious side effects. Recent studies have shown the capacity of nanoparticle-based treatment to target specific oncotic cells, thus overcoming these adverse side effects. The principal focus on the cytotoxic mechanism of these nanoparticles to induce apoptosis towards cancer cells makes them a promising anti-cancer agent. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) are one of the widely explored nanoparticles in cancer treatment methodology. This review outlined ZnO NP’s unique physiochemical properties including its mechanisms with an essential focus given in size- and shape-induced cytotoxicity. The initial selection process identified a total of 3,204 literature works published from 2016 to the present year in various online databases such as ScienceDirect, PubMed, NCBI, and ResearchGate. The accumulated literature expound on the unique properties of the ZnO NPs, mechanism of cytotoxicity, and cytotoxic evaluation of the ZnO NPs towards cancer cells. Throughout the extensive analysis, the data gathered from this review had reported evidence of ZnO NP’s anti-proliferative activity via different mechanisms of apoptosis-induced cytotoxicity. Smaller-sized nanoparticles appeared to be more potent than their large counterparts due to easier cell migration. Antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, anthelmintic, antioxidant, and chemopreventive medicines are all found in the oil. The widespread growth of Cymbopogon martinii was observed in the Devarayana Durga hills of Tumkur, Karnataka, India. The plant was identified using morphological, cytogenetic, and anatomical characteristics (SEM and Microscopic studies). DNA barcoding and flow cytometry analysis was used to confirm ploidy and species specificity. The plant was identified as Cymbopogon martinii (Roxb.) Wats. The seeds and the Herbarium (AC-62/2021) were deposited at the ICAR’s National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR), Pusa New Delhi. The morphology of the wild plant differed from that of other C. martinii kinds gathered and analyzed from the same wild area, indicating a response to environmental influences. Flow cytometry was used to confirm that the species was tetraploid ( C.flexuosus ). Using NCBI BLAST, the DNA barcoding sequence of rbcL revealed close similarities to C. martinii , and the sequence was deposited in Gen Bank under the accession number MW538957.
