The path-exploration process and the duration of the minimal route advertisement interval (MinRouteAdver) have a significant influence on the convergence time and in recent years several proposals have been made in order to reduce the convergence time. In this paper, we evaluate the behavior of some of these proposals, such as ghost-flushing or EPIC, in medium to large Waxman topology networks with nodes ranging 50 and 400 nodes.","PeriodicalId":412983,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Colombian Communications Conference (COLCOM)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122296317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Appear and telecom operators currently providing voice and data services by the traditional copper pair, and wishing to provide services such as IPTV, but have limited ability to transfer data in access. This technical limitation requires assessing the access network as a prerequisite and essential for the provision of a service through a process, a verification of the parameters versus standards and / or vendor specifications and measurement technology, for this reason it has decided address this important issue in this work. For the operator from a technical perspective, marketing and service support is of utmost importance to have the assurance that the service will be deployed and supported within the operating parameters suggested by the standards and providers.","PeriodicalId":412983,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Colombian Communications Conference (COLCOM)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127712946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the research problems of the data wireless networks is the so-called vertical handoff, and a great number of vertical handoff algorithms (VHA) that have been proposed. Most of these algorithms have been tested in simulated environments using simulation tools (e.g. NS-2, OMNeT++, NCTUNs), but only a few algorithms have been tested in a real environment. This paper presents a VHA controlled from a mobile phone and a software prototype for Android platform. One of the goals of our research was to validate the potential of Android's platforms as a tool for research in the topic of controlled vertical handoff from mobile device (MCVHO).","PeriodicalId":412983,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Colombian Communications Conference (COLCOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115560660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model foundation is the creation of many different virtual sources, for that reason a technique for limiting the number of sources created without loss accuracy is proposed. The main purpose of this model is achieve an easy and reliable algorithm implementation, then the assignment of a radiation pattern; using ray-tracing, radiative energy transfer (RET) theory or uniform diffraction theory (UTD) depending on the phenomenon; as a source's property is shown. Additionally the path loss prediction is improved regarding ground reflection and including the attenuation effects of crossing trees and buildings. This model would play a key role in planning UHF wireless networks that is the case of future implementation of IMT- Advanced because it computes the essential large scale parameters and regard some shadow fading components.","PeriodicalId":412983,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Colombian Communications Conference (COLCOM)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126239996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A technique, called opportunistic beamforming (OBF) is used to improve the throughput of the system. In this schema, the antennas at the transmitter can be induced to modulate the signals with pseudo-random beamforming coefficients. The main purpose of that is to increase the diversity gain channels at the users. The antennas used for this system are called “dumb” antennas. Then, to reduce errors during transmission, we propose a low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes for this system. The LDPC codes can exploit the spatial-diversity and the selective-fading diversity channels in wireless communications. Including, these kind of codes offer low-complexity at the receiver and scalability to the system. Each receiver employs a maximum a posteriori expectation-maximization (MAP-EM) demodulator and a soft LDPC decoder.","PeriodicalId":412983,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Colombian Communications Conference (COLCOM)","volume":"5 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132154440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the inclusion of all vocabulary variants for a specific language may be tricky and expensive on processing terms; also voice training is not appreciated by most of users. Speech recognition matters have been addressed from several ways, even including artificial intelligence concepts as recent IPhone Siri system, but most of them are proprietary solutions. This paper explores other research alternatives related with the use of domain ontologies to restrict the vocabulary to the application context and assist the speech recognition process. Specifically, a first approach is given by evaluating the most important components involved on the speech recognition process based on domain ontologies, using open source tools over Android platform.","PeriodicalId":412983,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Colombian Communications Conference (COLCOM)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129405231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
