Measurements are vital for the understanding of propagation channels. This article provides an overview of existing vehicular channel measurements. The vehicular channel measurement techniques are briefly described and classified. Furthermore, we review the channel metrics such as path-loss, signal fading and Doppler spread based on the available literature and we summarize and discuss some measurements results of the reported parameters to describe the propagation narrowband channel characteristics in vehicular environments.","PeriodicalId":412983,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Colombian Communications Conference (COLCOM)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123092794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results show that IEEE 802.16j must be implemented in an urban environment instead of rural environment. A specific situation where optimization can be useful is the daily activity of grocery shopping in a supermarket. This document describes the process of designing and developing an electronic system that helps to visualize the shopping process in a supermarket. The system proposed monitors the route taken by customers inside the store using the technology of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). This technology is used to identify the shopping carts as they move around the store. Costumer route information is sent to a central computer wirelessly so it can be processed, stored, and displayed on a screen. The system also processes and stores the time taken by a customer while following his/her path through the store. Having this information could allow the store manager to develop strategies that help to improve the shopping process in the supermarket.","PeriodicalId":412983,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Colombian Communications Conference (COLCOM)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133257751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Electrical spectrum at the receiver and constellation diagrams are analyzed, and the bit error rate (BER) are calculated varying the signal to noise ratio (SNR), reaching a successful transmission below 17 dB in QPSK and 12 dB in BPSK of SNR for a 1 Gbps, showing in BPSK transmissions similar BER using different carrier-frequency. In QPSK transmission the influence of higher carrier-frequency is noted with BER increasing.","PeriodicalId":412983,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Colombian Communications Conference (COLCOM)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116721341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When a link (light-paths) is established, if physical-layer issues are not considered, the possible distinctions between a short lightpath and a long lightpath gets ignored. In order to make such distinction, optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) performance at the lightpath end needs to be taken care of. The data streams flowing through different lightpaths may not have adequate OSNR resulting in increased bit error rate (BER) for some of the lightpaths. We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel optical layer grooming technique for All-optical networks (AONs). To implement such a load demand management system recently, the smart grid architecture has been proposed. Future electricity grids can be converted to a smart grid by overlaying a hierarchical communication network on the electricity distribution system which will allow real-time information exchange between different operational entities in a grid. This paper presents a wireless network architecture based on the physical and MAC layers of the WiMAX standard serving smart meters and different metering applications in the smart grid. Through extensive simulations using OPNET simulation models we analyze cell size, terrain models, channel capacity, packet losses, transmission power, Interpolling time -IPT- and transport protocols to outline an optimal network configuration to fulfill the communication needs of the smart grid applications.","PeriodicalId":412983,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Colombian Communications Conference (COLCOM)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127294810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
