In this paper, we propose an improved clustering protocol BEEC (Balanced and Energy-Efficient Clustering algorithm) for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks. In BEEC, it optimizes the threshold for selecting cluster heads and uses coverage radius to balance the distribution of cluster heads. It also introduces a novel approach to choose cluster head for cluster members so as to take fully advantage of energy heterogeneity. Simulation results show that this improved clustering algorithm can effectively prolong network lifetime and enlarge network throughput when compared with other existing clustering protocols in heterogeneous environments.","PeriodicalId":412971,"journal":{"name":"2014 Sixth International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124485509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the purpose of improving the performance of the OFDM based DRM digital AM broadcasting in MF and HF channels, this paper designs MLC-LDPC-OFDM transmission scheme that is suitable for MF and HF channels. The equivalent channel capacities of MLC-LDPC-OFDM with two different decoding strategies, namely IMSD and PDL, are analyzed, basing on which this paper redesigns the code rates of MLC. In addition, the calculation of likelihood ratio in LDPC decoding is modified according to channel models. Small cells are low-cost, low power nodes with limited coverage region, as the existence of small cells, more sophisticated network architecture increases the difficulty in dealing with mobility management. The contradiction between traffic demands and network resources is also very prominent, the rationally tradeoff between high quality service demands and signaling overhead in HO procedure should be considered in mobility management. Aiming at solving these issues, efficient handover (HO) mechanisms are more and more concerned to enhance mobility management in small cell networks. In this paper, we proposed a Self-Organizing Networks (SON) based Double Thresholds Optimization (DTO) handover algorithm, which offers an efficient method to mitigate handover signaling overhead while satisfying user's requirements of service quality. Specifically, through optimizing two key HO parameters associated with HO procedure, DTO enhances mobility robustness management effectively. Furthermore, a system-level LTE simulator is implemented to evaluate the mobility performance. The results strongly verify that the proposed DTO algorithm can assist LTE network in achieving an appropriate compromise between handover (HO) signaling overhead and quality of service (QoS), besides, load balance is acquired with rational allocation of resources.","PeriodicalId":412971,"journal":{"name":"2014 Sixth International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123943420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We first review the WPDM fundamental knowledge, and then provide a LED communication system diagram based on WPDM. Then, we evaluate the performance of the WPDM-based LED communication system, and compare it with the DC biased optical OFDM (DCO-OFDM)-based communication system. From simulation results, it is seen that the WPDM-based system shows higher spectrum and power efficiency, lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), more robust to inter-symbol interference (ISI) and LED nonlinear distortion. Resorting to such group-sparse penalty, we can efficiently choose a small size of relays to join in the secure transmission and reduce the cooperation overhead. In our work, the proximal gradient algorithm (PGA) is proposed to deal with the non-convexity and non-smoothness of the problem, which can converge to a local optimal solution in theory and parallelly calculate the beamformer of each relay. However, as the UER needs to use its own power for the other UE's data transmission, the D2D communication can be unfair to the UER. To overcome this issue, motivated by the recent advance in energy harvesting (EH) techniques, we consider the D2D communication provided EH cellular network (D2D-EHCN) where the UERs harvest RF energy from a base station (BS) and use the harvested energy for D2D communications. We first derive the UER distribution by taking into account the EH parameters, and propose the transmission mode selection scheme including the UER selection method. After deriving the outage probability of the D2D-EHCN, we explore the effects of the network parameters on the outage probability. Particularly, we show that the outage probability of D2D-EHCN is smaller than that of the cellular network without D2D communication, and their difference becomes more significant when the density of BSs is small.","PeriodicalId":412971,"journal":{"name":"2014 Sixth International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128708192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper is an extension of our previous work on statistical-CSI and PrCons. Deterministic constraints at times are infeasible or too expensive to implement, further, the CSI could be imperfect due to limited feedback or improper channel estimation. In such cases, PrCons with low outage probability are a good substitute. To handle the PrCons, a conservative approximation of PrCons resulting in a deterministic formulation is required. In this paper, Extreme Value Theory (EVT) is combined with an Interior Point Method (IPM) to obtain the solution. EVT approach is compared with an existing method based on Bernstein-type inequality (BI). Numerical results show that EVT approach outperforms BI approach.","PeriodicalId":412971,"journal":{"name":"2014 Sixth International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126540316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mathematical derivation of autocorrelation function of MBOC and the cross-correlation function between MBOC and Pseudorandom Noise (PRN) conventionally used to overcome the tracking ambiguity is firstly given followed by the unambiguous receiving technique based on the Combined Correlation Function (CCF). However, during each cooperative sensing process, extra energy is consumed by the selected sensors through local sensing, data reporting, and data fusion activities. Thus, cooperative sensing processes call for energy efficiency. This paper investigates two practical optimization problems related to energy efficient cooperative sensing issue. One focuses on the sensors selection in a single process, with the objective to minimize the total energy consumption meanwhile the expected sensing performances are achieved. The other is an online problem, which schedules participant sensors for each process with the aim to enable the network to perform as many as cooperative sensing processes, therefore increasing the network lifetime. Due to the NP-hardness of the proposed problems, we propose heuristic algorithms for them respectively. Extensive experiments by simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. Using the proposed algorithms, more cooperative sensing processes can be realized and the network lifetime can be extended significantly.","PeriodicalId":412971,"journal":{"name":"2014 Sixth International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP)","volume":"26 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114022935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
