Abstract
We introduce wavelet packet division multiplexing (WPDM) to Light-emitting diodes (LED)-based optical wireless communication systems. We first review the WPDM fundamental knowledge, and then provide a LED communication system diagram based on WPDM. Then, we evaluate the performance of the WPDM-based LED communication system, and compare it with the DC biased optical OFDM (DCO-OFDM)-based communication system. From simulation results, it is seen that the WPDM-based system shows higher spectrum and power efficiency, lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), more robust to inter-symbol interference (ISI) and LED nonlinear distortion. Those features make WPDM a good candidate for the LED communication systems.
