The construction of non-Gaussian distributions that strictly outperform Gaussian ones, for certain characterized fading distributions, is provided. The ability of analyzing non-Gaussian input distributions with closed form expressions is made possible in a local setting. That is, an unknown subset of agents is controlled by an adversary that attempts to damage the quality of the estimate at the Central Estimation Officer, or CEO. Inner and outer bounds are presented for the achievable rate region as a function of the fraction of adversarial agents. The inner bound is derived from a generalization of the Berger-Tung quantize-and-bin strategy, which has been shown to be tight in the non-Byzantine case. The outer bound has similarities to the Singleton bound in that the traitorous agents must be prevented from allowing two sources to result in the same transmitted codewords if their values are too far apart for the distortion constraint to be satisfied with a single estimate. The inner and outer bounds on the rate regions are used to find bounds on the asymptotic proportionality constant in the limit of a large number of agents and high sum-rate. We introduce new methods for lowering the error floor of LDPC codes, based on enhancing the code's parity-check matrix with additional linearly dependent and independent parity-checks. We prove NP hardness of certain optimization problems related to proposed methods and provide upper bound on the number of parity-checks that need to be added. Since the message can be represented by two numbers, a mean and a variance, the complexity of this decoder is lower than previous decoders, which either quantized the mixture, or used a mixture of Gaussians. The computational complexity at the check node is also lower. The performance of various code designs, under single-Gaussian decoding, is evaluated by noise thresholds. Most of the results in this area are based on experimental evidence and/or approximate analysis. The question of whether codes on sparse graphs can achieve the capacity of noisy channels with iterative decoding is still open, and has only been conclusively and positively answered for the binary erasure channel. On the other hand, codes on sparse graphs have been proven to achieve the capacity of memoryless, binary-input, output-symmetric channels with finite graphical complexity per information bit when maximum likelihood (ML) decoding is performed. In this paper, we consider transmission over finite-state channels (FSCs). We derive upper bounds on the average error probability of code ensembles with ML decoding. Based on these bounds we show that codes on sparse graphs can achieve the symmetric information rate (SIR) of FSCs, which is the maximum achievable rate with independently and uniformly distributed input sequences. In order to achieve rates beyond the SIR, we consider a simple quantization scheme that when applied to ensembles of codes on sparse graphs induces a Markov distribution on the transmitted sequence. Cooperation is achieved through the relaying of packets from the node farthest away from the destination by the intermediate node. We consider both scheduled access and random access, and compare the performance metrics of “stability region” and “throughput region”. We observe that the throughput region depends on the priority choices at the relay node, and may or may not be equal to the stability region, which is shown to be independent of the priority choices. By contrast, in the non-cooperative random access system, the stability region and the throughput region are proved to be identical. Patricia[7] like trees are applied to the context trees that are expanded according to the increase of the length of a source sequence in the previous researches of non-predictive source coding and model selection. The space complexity of the Patricia like context trees are O(t) where t is the length of a source sequence. On the other hand, the predictive Bayes source coding algorithm cannot use a Patricia like context tree, because it is difficult to hold and update the posterior probability parameters on a Patricia like tree. So the space complexity of the expanded trees in the predictive Bayes coding algorithm is O(t2).
