The historical and theoretical aspects of the research problem are characterised, the works of famous rock singers whose vocal improvisation has become an integral part of their musical activity are analysed. Research methodology. To achieve this goal, a set of methods was used, namely: general scientific methods – analysis, synthesis, generalisation, systematisation – were used to develop the problem; specific scientific methods: historical-genetic and retrospective analysis, which clarified the formation and development of rock music; comparative and contrastive analysis, which was used to outline vocal improvisation in rock music; biographical method, which was used to analyse vocal improvisation in the activities of famous rock singers. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time the features of vocal improvisation in rock music are presented. Conclusions. The article focuses on the concept of “vocal improvisation” (the process of creating music with the voice without pre-prepared musical or textual materials), reveals its essential aspects in rock music, which are hidden in a special tension, energy, emotional load, melody, smooth transitions between notes, the use of a rough voice, special effects such as echo, reverb, vocal filters. The features of vocal improvisation are analysed on the example of the works of Freddie Mercury (rock band “Queen”), Robert Plant (rock band “Led Zeppelin”), Steven Tyler (rock band “Aerosmith”). It has been found that a wide vocal range, the use of high notes, spontaneous vocal phrases and sounds are characteristic of Freddie Mercury (“Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Galileo”, “Someone to Love”). Whereas strong, expressive vocals and the ability to vary vocal riffs characterize Robert Plant (“Whole Lotta Love”, “Dazed and Confused”, “Black Dog”) and Steven Tyler (“Dream”, “Sweet Emotions”, “Mama Kin”). The focus is on vocal improvisation in rock music of the early XXI century, which is characterized by eclectic styles, the use of technology, and variations in lyrics.\u0000Keywords: vocals, improvisation, music, rock, vocal improvisation, rock music, rock band.

The research methodology includes the general scientific principles of systematisation and generalisation of the problem under study, which made it possible to identify and scientifically substantiate existing theories and conceptual approaches to understanding the content of the concepts of "trauma", "psychological trauma", "hysteria", "mental illness". The application of the axiological approach made it possible to identify interdisciplinary nature and personalised cultural scientific positions in the theories under consideration. The use of the analytical method led to the establishment of conceptual foundations for further scientific perspectives on the problematisation of trauma, psychological trauma, hysteria as mental illnesses in the optics of cultural knowledge. The scientific novelty lies in the implementation of cultural reflection to clarify the socio-cultural determinants of the spread of hysteria and psychological trauma as mental illnesses. Conclusions. The article deals with the issues related to the understanding of the content of hysteria and trauma in the culture of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries not as purely medical, but as socio-cultural phenomena. The aestheticisation, theatricalisation, and commodification of mental illnesses, initiated by the example of J.-M. Charcot's hysteria, actualised and stimulated their discussion from new perspectives, opened up new discursive spaces of research: psychoanalytic, social, artistic, aesthetic, which did not exist in their pure form but were combined with each other. In the fin de siècle culture, hysteria and trauma are embedded in the structure of the subjective and are defined through processes, events and human perception as a special idea of internalising the world, where the thanatological problematic represents a fundamental feature of culture associated with the anticipation and expectation of the approach of death, with being within the "finitude of human life"; and artistic representations of a split, "hysterical", traumatised personality are embodied in the works of European painters, sculptors, and writers. Photography, as a new way of seeing the world, social and individual existence, symbolised and expressed the connection between science and art, expanded the range of human emotional states and contributed to the commodification of hysteria in the "theatrical spectacles" presented at the Salpetriere Hospital. \u0000Keywords: trauma, hysteria, problematisation of trauma & hysteria, mental illness, aestheticisation, theatricalisation, photography, commodification, European culture, fin de siècle.

The study characterises the style processes that took place in Ukrainian pop music in the 1990s. The research methodology involves a combination of historical-cultural, systemic, and musical-analytical methods and approaches that made it possible to determine the style parameters of Ukrainian pop music of the 1990s. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time the basic features of pop music as a direction of variety music were identified and the work of leading Ukrainian pop performers of the 1990s, representing different style branches of pop music, was analysed. Conclusions. Pop music in all areas of variety music is the most difficult for theoretical understanding, including in determining its style parameters. The identification of pop music with popular music, as well as the insufficient development of style categories in the music of mass genres, makes it difficult to characterise pop music as the leading direction of variety music. The work identifies the basic features of pop music, which include hit music, lyricism in its projections on the theme and musical language, mainstream as an orientation towards the most current musical styles and genres, style neutrality as the most unified representation of a musical style. It is noted that Ukrainian pop performers represent various style branches of pop music, including representatives of “pure” pop music (Irina Bilyk), pop-folk or ethno-pop (Ruslana), traditional pop (Oksana Bilozir) and modernised traditional pop (Olexandr Ponomariov). Ukrainian pop music of the 1990s is distinguished by both style diversity and pronounced national specificity, which distinguishes it from the pop music of other countries. \u0000Keywords: Ukrainian variety song of the 1990s, pop music as a direction of variety music, musical style, hit, pop singer.

The research methodology includes historical and analytical methods, methods of comparative and cultural analysis. The scientific novelty consists in the analysis of the transformation of the North American choreographic tradition of modernism in the joint creative projects of John Cage and Merce Cunningham. Using the example of the experimental creative projects of J. Cage and M. Cunningham, the main signs of the interaction of musical and choreographic structures in the field of synthetic artistic practices are clarified. Conclusions. The peculiarities of creative communication of J. Cage and M. Cunningham were determined on the example of joint development and artistic embodiment of experimental aesthetic concepts. In the context of an active creative dialogue with the tradition of North American modern choreography the heredity of aesthetic ideas was revealed, which became the basis for the formation of the artistic principles of the Cage–Cunningham tandem. The value of the aleatoric method as a formative principle of the musical and choreographic whole in joint artistic actions of the aforementioned tandem was analysed. The influence of the “philosophy of the random” on the formation of unique creative methods of tandem, which were contrary to the aesthetic views of modern choreography, was determined. The artistic phenomenon that actualises research intentions and reflections becomes a unique result of intense creative interaction of such polar-organised personalities. The experimental aleatoric practices of J. Cage and M. Cunningham in the synthetic paradigm of musical and choreographic art became an artistic opposition to the strictly regulated concept of story ballet by M. Graham and the relentlessly deterministic system of the dodecaphonic technique of A. Schoenberg. In a broad cultural sense, this can be considered a unique symbiosis between the rational West and the intuitive East. The research methodology encompasses a range of the following approaches: analytical – to master an implementation of metaphysical questions in Viktor Telychko’s artwork; music studies – to grasp the content parameters of the presented masterpiece; hermeneutic – to interpret the senses introduced by the master; biographical – to study the originality of the chronicle and to analyse the composer’s individual history within the projection onto a creative pattern; systemic – to conduct a complex recognition of the issue of the study; theoretical generalisation – to summarise the research results. Scientific novelty. For the first time ever in national humanitarian studies, the sonata for violin and piano “With the Questions” by Viktor Telychko has been considered from the viewpoint of the artwork implementing the basic philosophical postulates; the following idea has been justified: the piece raises existential issues and demonstrates the master’s metaphysical chronicles. Conclusions. The postmodernism sonata has experienced considerable transformations related to reflecting personal and psychological concern. It is based on technical and style conceptions of the author’s original thinking, promotes important ideological positions of the master. In the 21st century, the genre reflects the master’s mentality and spiritual fundamentals professed by them, transfers to the sphere of philosophical objectification being represented by metaphysical biography. The latter is interpreted as the following: a symbolic depiction of ontological concepts of a personality’s life creativity reflected in an iconic civilizational artefact. The creative heritage of Viktor Telychko, a prominent profile in Ukrainian culture, is represented by a remarkable contribution where the sonata for violin and piano “With the Questions” stands out. Its consideration has revealed the seriousness and sense capacity of the presented conception. While developing the musical idea, the composer declares the following dominating metaphysical categories: birth, life, death, suffering, time, action, entity and some others. They are related to his existential aspirations (the artistic explication of their essence became the key task of various stages of being and was implemented via multifaceted elaborations), manifest the master’s essence and denote the metaphysical chronicle by Viktor Telychko. The research methodology consists in the complex application of historical and cultural analysis, art study, diachronic ones, as well as empirical observation. The scientific novelty of the study. The materials of the survey and proposals for restoration (1998) the compositions of academic mural painting in the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra of the late 19th – early 20th centuries have been introduced into scientific circulation. The academic mural painting in the Dormition Cathedral, the 21st century, has been introduced into scientific circulation. Its attribution has been performed. The names of the artists have been introduced into scientific circulation and it has been detailed who among them is the author of the project, who painted the holy images and who painted the ornaments. The dating of the compositions in different compartments of the Cathedral and the technique of their performance have been determined. The main thematic and plot lines have been revealed. The thematic, plot, iconographic, decorative, coloristic connections of the modern academic mural painting with the murals of the late 19th – early 20th centuries and with visual records have been studied. The similarities and differences of the academic compositions of 1897–1901 and 2018–2022 have been analysed. The principle of forming the colouring of modern academic murals has been revealed. Conclusions. In the modern decoration of the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the Academicism painting (1897–1901) is presented in the apse of the southern nave (diaconicon). In this compartment, authentic fragments of academic compositions have been restored, the painting system has been revived based on archival photos, and some new academic compositions have been introduced to it. Mural paintings have been performed by artists under the supervision of Oleksandr Pashkovskyi in 2018–2019. They also performed new murals in the academic tradition in the altar part of side-altar of the Saint Apostle Andrew the First Called in the southern part of choirs in 2020–2021. In the northern part of the choirs, paintings have been started and then suspended in 2022. In the new murals complex the artists cite in extenso or in part the compositions of the late 19th – early 20th centuries using archival photos. The murals have been performed in mixed techniques: holy images in oil, ornaments in acrylic paints. The composition ‘Glorification of Theotokos’ differs in the techniques; it is painted with oil on canvas. In the modern interpretation, the cited compositions can keep or change the primary location. The research methodology is based on the application of a set of methods: general theoretical – analysis, systematisation, generalisation of the researched sources; historical-retrospective – for studying the stages of artistic creativity and works of the artist; art critic – for the analysis of the general creative style and artistic manner of the artist. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the generalisation and systematisation of the creative heritage of L. Perfetskyi in the realm of battle painting, which vividly reflects the days of the armed struggle of Ukrainians for independence at the beginning of the 20th century; attention is also focused on the relationship between the direct participation of the artist himself in combat operations and his service in the ranks of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic with subsequent creative activity, which influenced the formation of the artist's original style in combination with the stylistics of cubism and other modernist searches. Conclusions. As a result of the conducted research, it was established that despite the partial loss of the artist's heritage, those works that have survived testify to the unparalleled talent and artistic originality of the artist, who was a witness of real events and masterfully embodied all that in artistic works. L. Perfetsky joined the cohort of Ukrainian combat artists and at a high artistic level managed to recreate some of the most difficult periods of Ukrainian history, which is supported by his personal view of these events as a direct participant. In addition, from an artistic point of view, the works of L. Perfetskyi are marked by artistic appeals and searches among the modernist European currents of cubism, which was constantly reflected in the increased expression and dynamics of the paintings. The research methodology is based on a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to solving the issue, a combination of both general scientific principles and research methods, as well as special ones, however, the basis of the theoretical and methodological tools when studying the issue of scientific development of the topic of intercultural dialogue by A. Brückner were the methods of modern cultural studies (biographical, method of factor analysis, content analysis, classification). The scientific novelty of the publication consists in the formulation of a complex, multi-level issue, which has hardly been researched in Ukrainian and foreign cultural studies. For the first time in national cultural studies, a complex and comprehensive study of A. Brückner's views on the issue of cultural interactions between Germanic and Slavic worlds is proposed, the influence of Aleksander Brückner's life circumstances on the formation and evolution of his cultural concepts is determined. Conclusions. The article points up the thesis about the ambiguity and controversy of A. Brückner's scientific views on the issue of cultural contacts between Slavs and Germans, who, according to the scientist, intersected and interacted on the territory of Poland. It is stressed that the specific nature of Aleksander Brückner's cultural generalisations is attributed to his linguistic approach to solving the debatable issues of intercultural relations since the Berlin professor considered language to be one of the main categories of culture and even equated the concepts of “culture” and “language” in his works. The attitude of A. Brückner's contemporaries to his scientific work is determined, which was revealed in numerous critical reviews by such outstanding representatives of Polish linguistics as J. Baudouin de Courtenay and H. Ułaszyn. \u0000Keywords: Aleksander Brückner, cultural dialogue, frontier culture, cultural linguistics, Slavic studies, University of Berlin.
