It has become debatable whether the current system implementations have become obsolete or may be able to cope with the challenges if combined with new technologies. The idea of developing entirely new approaches has also risen. Recent advances in machine learning and especially deep learning techniques indicate possible new research directions. This paper states the reasons behind the introduction of deep learning in communications. The paper provides the separation of the existing research procedures. Special focus is put on analyzing different areas of appliance and defining their advantages and disadvantages, including the formation of end-to-end communication systems as autoencoders and neural network contribution in signal detection and modulation classification. The results indicate strong usage potential of deep learning in communications in not already optimized areas.","PeriodicalId":410503,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium ELMAR","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116706508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the limited power budget, strict volume and mass constraints of standard nanosatellite formats, the magnetorquers need to be carefully designed. An optimal magnetorquer exhibits the required magnetic dipole moment while minimizing the mass and power consumption. Here, a multiobjective optimization based on the genetic algorithm is adopted to design two air core magnetorquers. The presented approach allows a designer to set acceptable range of the design parameters, which makes it timeefficient, powerful, and versatile as it can be easily applied to different design cases. The preliminary resistance measurements of the two prototyped magnetorquers show excellent agreement with the calculations within 3%.","PeriodicalId":410503,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium ELMAR","volume":"66 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113933085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traffic scenarios are important when machine learning is used for traffic control to ensure good controller performance in all cases. This article tackles the problem of identifying relevant scenarios from clustered data for urban mobility analysis. The unsupervised learning approaches k-means, principal component analysis, and self-organizing maps were applied on real traffic data from Slovenian motorways to analyze and group traffic scenarios. Obtained observations present a solid foundation for future research on a wide-scale data-set, including data from more measuring points for creating relevant traffic scenarios for learning of traffic controllers.","PeriodicalId":410503,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium ELMAR","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114536610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The limits of organism concentration in ballast water allowed to be discharged into portʼs aquatorium were set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Management of ballast water and sediment has been introduced as obligatory since 2017. by the International Convention for the Control and Management of Shipʼs Ballast Water and Sediments. Ballast water treatment methods (Standard D2), significantly reduce the risk of spreading of invasive species through ballast in compare by water exchange methods (Standard D1). The treatment of ballast water with active substances may lead to the release of those substances into the environment and the goal of this paper is an introduction to the issue of possible significant and harmful changes in the marine environment due to the ballast water treatment with active substances. The Shore Based Treatment System is suggested by authors as one of acceptable solutions for certain category of ships. Also mentioned system provides better control of ballast water treatment and it generally may help to improve Ballast Water Management.","PeriodicalId":410503,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium ELMAR","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124600941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our previous work, we presented the 2D local entropy method (2DLEM) and tested it on synthetic signals and a small number of real-world signals. We now extend the application of our method by applying it to recorded speech signals combined with noise from different sources. The database we used is commonly used in speech recognition, where tested methods usually have the best result achieved on clean signals without added noise or on denoised signals. The 2DLEM method is used for the extraction of useful content, and in this paper, we test it in real-world scenarios. Our results show promising results for all tested signals regardless of the noise source or signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). Combining the 2DLEM method with speech recognition methods could improve the performance of speech recognition and understanding systems.","PeriodicalId":410503,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium ELMAR","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124880162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The number of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADASs) has been rising significantly. In this paper, the solution for autonomous vehicle parking is proposed. Firstly, an algorithm that detects parking spaces (PSs) and classifies them only by processing frames received from the camera placed on the side of the ego vehicle was developed. Furthermore, an algorithm for performing the autonomous vehicle parking in different ways (forward/backward, left/right side of the road) at detected free PS is developed. The solution was developed using Python programing language and OpenCV library and tested in CARLA simulator. Test results show that the algorithm correctly detects and classifies PSs in 100% of test cases, whereas after that the success of the parking process itself was 88%. The algorithm is capable of processing 10 frames per second, thus allowing real-time operation for typical vehicle speed during parking process.","PeriodicalId":410503,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium ELMAR","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117194098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these drones are equipped with low powerful hardware platforms. In this work we present an underwater image enhancement solution that works effectively on such hardware platforms. The approach is built on the underwater optical model and estimates locally the backscattered light component. In order to compute an optimal image patch size, we estimate two complementary values of the local backscattered light (an estimate for a large patch size and one for a small patch size) that are averaged in an optimal value. The transmission map is computed based on the well-known dark-channel prior (DCP) [1]. Finally, the results are yielded by inverting the simplified optical model using the estimated values of the local backscattered light an the trans-mission. The method was implemented and tested on Raspberry Pi. Our extensive experiments show that the proposed technique is computationally effective but also competitive compared to several specialized techniques.","PeriodicalId":410503,"journal":{"name":"2021 International Symposium ELMAR","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116636225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
