However, chemical approaches, such as the identification of biomarker pigments, allow to elucidate microalgae groups more quickly, in addition to detecting these valuable compounds. This study aimed to identify the pigment profile of microalgae species and to determine the seasonal pigment fluctuation in a marine mussel farm. Water samples were collected periodically between the years of 2014 and 2015. Phytoplanktonic organisms were isolated and cultivated in f/2 liquid medium under controlled temperature and light cycle. Cell content extracts from each unialgal culture and water sample were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Pigment profiles of 13 marine microalgae strains were identified (12 Diatoms and 1 Dinoflagellate). Chlorophyll a and fucoxanthin were most present in Diatoms, while peridinin was the major carotenoid in Prorocentrum micans. Bacillariophyceae had higher density in the summer and fall. Dinophyceae, Cryptophyceae, Euglenophyceae, Prasinophyceae, Dictyophyceae and Ebriidea, had an increase in density during winter and spring. Following the trend of phytoplankton groups, pigments such as fucoxanthin, zeaxanthin, diadinoxanthin, chlorophyll c3 and c2, were identified throughout the year. The samples were collected from thirteen sites on the southern coastal strip of the Rio de la Plata (Argentina). Three biological parameters were analyzed in the root cells, the mitotic index (MI), and the chromosome aberrations (CA) and micronuclei (MN) frequencies. Most of the samples were genotoxic in the pore water compartment, probably due to the mixture of bioavailable heavy metal concentrations (Cd =0.050-0.950 mg/Kg, Cu=0.125-7.300 mg/Kg, Cr=0.019-1.850 mg/Kg, Pb=1.075-15.200 mg/Kg, and Zn=0.925-47.225 mg/Kg). However, half of the samples exerted genotoxic and mutagenic effects on the meristematic root cells when they were exposed to the whole sediment. This probably means that some contaminants in this compartment, such as heavy metals, would not be bioavailable in all of the samples. However, a large part of this ecosystem is currently suppressed and only 1/3 of the original 261.90 km² of mangrove vegetation can be observed. Thus, several conservation and management actions are conducted in this ecosystem. Studying plantations and other restoration strategies for this biome is important to understand the dynamics of this ecosystem and enhance such strategies. Size can be one of the most important characteristics for propagules success. Some studies state that larger seedlings can resist more and have greater survival than smaller seedlings. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the germination and development of Rhizophora mangle L. propagules at an in situ plantation in the mangroves of the Guapi-Mirim Environmental Protection Area. A total of nine plots were delimited with spacing of 4 meters by 1 meter each in which Rhizophora mangle propagules were separated into small and large groups and planted. Their germination and development were subsequently monitored for a period of 6 months. The diameter, height and initial weight of the propagules and the increase in height and diameter at 76, 93 and 154 days after planting were measured. Periodic observations were made approximately every 20 days in order to quantify the rate and type of mortality (predation, water current carriage and drying) and to monitor time (in days) of pairs of leaves opening. There were no differences between the propagules according to the size for the opening time of leaf pairs, nor for the mortality rate. The increments in diameter and height were larger for the small propagules in the first development periods, but not in the last ones. The large and small propagules did not show significant differences in diameter or height at 154 days. There was high mortality of small propagules due to predation and/or water current carriage, while the mortality for large propagules was higher due to desiccation. Este trabalho objetiva analisar as UCs Marinhas e Costeiras Federais do Brasil. Por meio do Cadastro Nacional de Unidades de Conservação foram feitos download das UCs Federais e selecionadas as existentes em ecossistema marinho ou localizadas da linha da costa até o limite de 50 Km para o continente. Foram levantadas 74 UCs, sendo 33 de Uso Integral, onde o Parque Nacional de Monte Pascoal foi a primeira UC de proteção integral criada em ecossistema costeiro em 1961, somente após 42 anos da criação da primeira unidade de conservação brasileira, o Parque Nacional do Itatiaia. As demais (41) são do grupo de Uso Sustentável. Destas, as primeiras contendo ecossistemas marinho e costeiro foram as Áreas de Proteção Ambiental (APA) de Piaçabuçú e do Cairuçu, ambas criadas em 1993. Portanto, 11 anos após a criação das primeiras UCs de uso sustentável, APA da Região Serrana de Petrópolis e APA Bacia do Rio Paraíba do Sul, em 1982. O levantamento possibilitou verificar que do total de UCs apenas 43 (48 %) possuem plano de manejo e 5 ainda em construção. Por outro lado, em 2018 houve um aumento substancial de áreas em UCs, especialmente considerando as APAs Arquipélago de Trindade e Martim Vaz e Arquipélago de São Pedro e São Paulo, e seus Monumentos Naturais de mesmo nome, passando de 1,6% para aproximadamente 25% das águas do país legalmente protegidas. To this, 43 open questionnaires were conducted with users from Curva da Jurema and Ilha do Boi beaches, in Vitória, Espírito Santo, southeastern Brazil. From the socioeconomic point of view, our results showed that there were no significant differences between the users of the two beaches. With respect to marine litter, the interviewees showed a high level of knowledge about this issue, knowing what the proper disposal of the litter they produce should be and what damage it can cause to the environment and also to humans. It is noteworthy that respondents blame other beach users for the accumulated litter, suggesting that the lack of education and awareness of other people is the main factor for beach garbage. Thus, we conclude that users of both beaches perceive the problem of marine litter, but do not identify their actions as part of the problem. Thus, constant measures are required in public-private partnerships focused on education on the subject, in addition to the installation of various points of garbage collection and monitoring their effectiveness. This expansion has generated many benefits but also major concerns about its increasing environmental impacts. Considering the potential of the Environmental Licensing (EL) to induce necessary measures to achieve the sustainability requirements, this research was developed with the objective of analyzing the execution of the EL of shrimp farming in the State of Bahia and its contributions to the sustainable development. In this purpose, 15 EL's processes required in the State of Bahia were analyzed, aiming to evaluate the practices of assessment of the competent agencies and their contributions to the insertion of the objectives of sustainability in the EL of the activity. Because the available processes referred to regularization licenses, the analysis of the preventive character of the EL was impaired. The results suggest that the Technical Opinions emphasize the aspects related to the effects of the activity on the environment, which demonstrates an analysis behavior of the environmental agency based on corrective actions. The social aspects were, in general, the most neglected, in the Technical Opinions analyzed. The analysis of the required conditions in the issued also suggests a significant deficiency, reinforcing the need for important information and conditions to be required before the release of the licenses to ensure compliance. Organismos aquáticos como peixes, vêm sendo amplamente estudados por pesquisadores devido a sua eficiência no monitoramento ecotoxicológico, pois algumas espécies sofrem alterações comportamentais, fisiológicas e morfológicas detectadas em um curto espaço de tempo. Assim, objetivou-se neste estudo avaliar a ecotoxicidade da água residuária do café (ARC), através de bioensaios padronizados com espécie Danio rerio, um peixe bioindicador conhecido como “paulistinha”. O organismo-teste supracitado foi exposto a diferentes concentrações de amostras de ARC diluídas em água, sem alimentação e sem renovação da solução-teste, a fim de avaliar a concentração letal por um período de 48 horas (CL50-48h). Os organismos-teste foram expostos a amostras do efluente equivalentes a (1,67%, 3,33% e 5% de ARC). Ao final de cada ensaio, observou-se a letalidade provocada por cada concentração. Registrou-se os seguintes percentuais de mortalidade: 84%, 60% e 20% para as concentrações 5%, 3,33% e 1,67% de ARC, respectivamente. De acordo com os resultados obtidos e considerando a norma padrão utilizada, pode-se afirmar que quanto maior a concentração da ARC maior será a CL50-48h. Therefore, the objective was to analyze the relationship between population and size of individuals of Eremita brasiliensis, comparing two beaches on the coast of Santa Catarina, being Praia brava in Itajaí, with an increasing level of urbanization and Guarda do Embaú Beach in Paulo Lopes, which has a stationary degree. The collections took place in March and September 2016, with the sample area parallel to the sand and intertidal strips for a systematic sampling observing the estimated time for low tide. For collection, a 20cm diameter PVC cylinder was used and buried at a depth of 20cm. The samples were arranged in a 0.5mm opening mesh and sent to the laboratory, where the organisms of the genus Emerita brasiliensis were separated and identified for the measurement of biomorphometric data, observing the lateral diameter and rostro-caudal length of the carapace. The biomass weighing was performed before and after the drying procedure, performed in a controlled temperature oven at 37ºC for 48 hours. For statistical analysis, the ANOVA test was used. Based on the individuals collected, it is observed Guarda do Embaú beach with more individuals when compared to Brava Beach. Statistical data show a significant difference between the months and the beaches, which is justified by the state of conservation of Guarda do Embaú beach, which remains static due to its low urbanization. Therefore, it is concluded that the difference between Emerita Brasiliensis communities is due to changes in local dynamics, such as anthropic trampling and sediment change. The results were not accurate due to the low number of samples, but are significant and relevant for further research.","PeriodicalId":410031,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Aquatic Science and Technology","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115781338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DOI: 13700/bjast.v23n1. Branchoneta is an option as live food for aquaculture and it is necessary to develop more studies to get information that makes possible its culture on a large scale. Our aim was to establish a method that results in a higher percentage hatching of D. brasiliensis . We analyzed if the cyst density could cause any significant difference in hatching; for that test we use 2 different conditions: (I) 15 ml glass tube (T1, T2 and T3) with 25 (twenty-five) cysts/repetition; and (II) Erlenmeyer of 150 ml (T4, T5, and T6) with 25 cysts/ repetition totaling 75 cysts/treatment, with triplicates to all treatments. We also tested 3 different pH conditions: acid (pH 3), neutral (pH~7/distilled water) and alkaline (pH 8), all in natural light and temperature. We conclude that there is no difference between the treatments, for none of the conditions tested. But other results have to be considered as Hatching Speed index and the Average Hatching Time with best results for the treatments T3, T1 and T2, respectively. The density of 0.6 ml/cyst (glass tube) resulted in faster hatching, which shows the necessity of further studies to analyze the speed of hatching under different conditions of density. The relative frequency showed that the hatchings peak occurs in the second day.
