The paper presents the recorded localities, descriptions and colour illustrations of those giant pill millipedes. S. clavigerum Verhoeff, 1924 is recorded from Cuc Phuong National Park (Ninh Binh Province), and distinguished from its congeners by body being shiny, glabrous, anterior telopods 3-segmented, process of 2nd podonomere of posterior telopods slender, not apically strongly swollen. In contrast, S. hirsutum Verhoeff, 1924 is found in Tam Dao National Park and Me Linh Biodiversity Station (both in Vinh Phuc Province), and recognized by body being densely hairy, process of 2nd podonomere of posterior telopods apically strongly swollen, spherical, wider than basis of 3rd podomere. In addition, a key to genera of giant pill millipedes is also provided for the Vietnam fauna.","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122139444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The gdhA-transgenic tobacco plants exhibited high growth performance and enhanced herbicide resistance as well as drought tolerance. In addition, the gdhA gene when expressed in maize plants could increase productivity because of improving stress tolerance. In this study, we isolated and analyzed a gdhA gene from the E. coli strain JM109. Then, the E.coli derived-gdhA sequence was modified by using OptimumGene™ software for plant compatibility. The optimized gdhA gene was inserted into an expression cassette containing the CaMV 35S promoter and the 35S terminator of the pRTRA7/3 vector. The 35S::gdhA::35S construct was ligated into the plant expression plasmid pCAMBIA1300 which then introduced into the A. tumefaciens strain EHA105. In order to examine the expression of the gdhA gene, we created gdhA-transgenic plants via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation into N. tabacum K326. The PCR analysis showed that two out of 20 plants were positive to the presence of the gdhA gene. The RT-PCR experiment also revealed that gdhA was expressed in transcriptional level. These results suggested that the gdhA expression construction can be transformed into other crops such as maize. ","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121010930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to over- exploitation and habitat destruction in the 1980s and 1990s, this species is listed as threatened. Understanding the genetic variation and mating rate among D. dyeri population that occurs in forest patches is necessary to establish effectively conservation strategies for this species. To conserve the species in tropical forests, genetic diversity and mating rate were investigated using eight microsatellites (single sequence repeat, SSR) as markers. All of the eight loci were polymorphic. A total of 36 different alleles were observed across the loci screened. The SSR data indicated high genetic diversity (NA = 4.5; HO = 0.542 and HE = 0.667) and high inbreeding value, FIS= 0,182. The mating system parameters were determined using the mixed mating model and the results indicated high outcrossing rate (tm=0.81 and ts=0.675) and lowselfing rate (0.19). Difference of tm-ts value indicated that inbreeding contributed to selfing rate for this species in the Tan Phu tropical rain forest. The results reflected that D. dyeri habitat in this area has been restored and the number of individuals was high, about 500 individuals. However, seedlings were not found so far in this study. These results indicated the importance of conserving of the genetic resources of Dipterocarpus dyeri species in the Tan Phu rain forest. The conservation strategy should include an establishment of an ex-situ conservation site with new big population for this species from all genetic groups, which might improve its fitness under different environmental stresses.  ","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132829780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the previous study, we studied the expression of a recombinant single chain variable fragment recognizing blood A antigen (antiA-scFv) in E. coli. However, the protein was insoluble form resulting in difficulty for purification, refolding and activity assesment. Here, we present the study on fused expression of the recombinant scFv -specific blood A antigen with thioredoxin (Trx) in the expression vector pET32a (+). The results showed that the Trx/antiA-scFv fusion protein was expressed with molecular weight of 49 kDa in a soluble form reaching 40% of the total recombinant protein. This result facilitates the optimal condition of soluble protein expression, purification and bioactivity determination of the antiA-scFv recombinant antibody. ","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115698101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An analytical approach is very important to identify, assess and forecast environmental risks from toxic components, in which ecotoxicology is considered to be the optimal tool. We conducted a study on M. micrura in order to contribute the creation of a biological basis for the use of zooplankton as an early warning of the risk of water pollution. The results showed that M. micrura was isolated from 29/3 Park Lake, Da Nang City, central Vietnam. The acute toxicity test of potassium dichromate on M. micrura showed LC 50 at 12, 24 and 48 hr were 0.26, 0.15 and 0.08 mg.l-1 K2Cr2O7, respectively. EC 50 was 0.015 mg.l-1 K2Cr2O7 for egg parameter and 0.009 mg.l-1 K2Cr2O7for neonate parameter. The cladocerans fauna in Vinh Long province is recognized as moderate diverse, and the species recorded were mostly common species. Among 18 species, Grimaldina brazzai Richard, 1892 is a rare species. A total of four females specimens of species G. brazzai were collected at the Co Chien river, but male specimens were absent. The specimens were morphologically identified as G. brazzai described first by Richard (1892), followed by Brook (1959), Idris (1983), Smirnov (1992) and Hollwedel (2003). Grimaldina brazzai is currently the only one species in the genus Grimaldina and has been recorded in several tropical countries, such as Brazil, Thailand, Laos, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia and Singapore. They occur in lakes and rice fields, but population of this species is very limited in nature. The in vitro total antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacity of the methanol extract of Trang To leaf was investigated using the phosphomolypdenum method and the bovine serum albumin denaturation test, respectively. The results showed that the methanol extract of Trang To leaf possessed relatively high antioxidant activity (OD0,5 = 15,551 ± 0,344 μg/mL) compared to that of the standard, trolox (OD0,5=2,315±0,083 μg/mL). The anti-inflammatory effect using bovine serum albumin denaturation test showed that the activity of the methanol extract of Trang To leaf (EC50= 6,03±0,12 μg/mL) was comparable to that of the reference drug, diclofenac sodium (EC50=0,57±0,21µg/mL). To evaluate the hepatoprotective activity of the methanol extract of Trang To leaf, the liver damage was induced in mice given with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) mixed in olive oil (1: 4) at a dose of 2.5 mL/kg body weight/day. As a control, the standard hepatoprotective agent, silymarin, was used at the dose of 16 mg/kg body weight for 4 consecutive weeks. Trang To leaf extract was given at three different doses 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight. The results showed the effective dose-dependent reduction of transaminase enzyme (ALT and AST) levels in sera. In addition, Trang To leaf extract also improved the oxidative stress status of the liver through effective reduction of MDA level and increase of GSH level in the liver. Histopathological examination of the liver tissue revealed that the mice treated with Trang To leaf extract showed significant improvement of liver tissue damages similar to silymarin treatment compared to the non-treated control group. The present results demonstrated that Trang To leaf extract has potent antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity. ","PeriodicalId":409863,"journal":{"name":"TAP CHI SINH HOC","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131395787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All the extracts exhibited cytotoxic effects on at least one cancer cell line. The n-hexane extract showed potent cytotoxic activity on Hep-G2, MCF-7 and HeLa cell lines with IC50 values of 28.3 g/ml, 14.42 g/ml and 18.59 g/ml, respectively, while the methanolic, ethyl acetate and water extracts exhibited toxicity towards MCF-7 cells with IC50 values of 16.45 g/ml, 13.4 g/ml and \u000039.78 g/ml, respectively. \u000006 compounds have been isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of Ehretia asperula stem. Methyl caffeate has a strong cytotoxicity against Hep-G2, HeLa and MCF-7 cancer cell lines with IC50 values of 2.83 g/ml, 3.38 g/ml and 4.4 g/ml, respectively. Oresbiusin B was active against Hep-G2 with IC50 value of 9.89 g/ml.
