In such a system, the dimming levels of light sources are adapted to changing daylight such that a desired illuminance distribution is achieved at the place. The system is composed by photo-sensible passive RFID tags used as light sensor nodes and RFID readers connected to a central controller. The use of the passive UHF RFID technology avoids the use of complex feedback light control algorithms as also simplify the deployment of the sensor network. Experimental results showed the proposed solution. The light variations can be sensed with high resolution having completely passive and wireless sensors.","PeriodicalId":409794,"journal":{"name":"2014 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133151148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PID controllers have also found widespread application in Power System Control. To achieve effective control optimal tuning of PID gains of the controller is necessary. This controller gain tuning problem is a multimodal non-convex optimization problem. This paper proposes a tuning strategy based on Mine Blast Algorithm (MBA); a population based algorithm for tuning the controller. This algorithm is a newly developed optimization technique. The motivation of this study is to determine if MBA presents a better alternative than traditional soft computing based optimization methods. The algorithm simulates the behavior of exploding mines in a mine field. This algorithm has been used to find optimal values of PID gains. The performance of MBA is compared with results obtained from Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). All the codes have been developed in house in Matlab environment. MBA has demonstrated up to 40% reduction in computational burden while maintaining controllers output characteristics.","PeriodicalId":409794,"journal":{"name":"2014 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON)","volume":"172 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123048195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It consists of a pentagonal shaped radiator with its complementary structure, CPW feed line and two symmetric modified U-shaped slots in the ground plane. It is designed on RT 5880 dielectric material with relative permittivity of 2.2 and thickness of 3.175 mm. The predicated extremely wide impedance bandwidth is 2.78-15.85 GHz, for VSWR <; 2, with a stop band 5.08-6.11 GHz, for VSWR > 2. An extremely wideband is achieved by modifying ground plane and stop band is acquired by inserting slots in the ground structure. The dependence of antenna on the various parameters has been studied and results presented systematically. Significant gain reduction in the stop band is also observed with satisfactory radiation patterns.","PeriodicalId":409794,"journal":{"name":"2014 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125202100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These characteristics include maximum achievable data rate, coverage area, minimum number of hops to cover a particular area and energy efficiency per bit, using Hata propagation path loss model for urban, sub-urban and open area. The sub-1GHz band offers low interference and propagation path loss and hence supports a much higher coverage. New standards like IEEE802.11ah aim at a physical layer operating in sub-1GHz bands to fulfill connectivity requirements of emerging technologies such as IoT (Internet-of-Things) which essentially need highly energy efficient wireless communication between a large numbers of devices.","PeriodicalId":409794,"journal":{"name":"2014 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON)","volume":"120 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120973771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The standard parallel Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a promising scheme for solving NP-complete problems due to its fast convergence, fewer parameter settings and ability to fit dynamic environmental characteristics. A modified version of standard parallel particle swarm optimization algorithm named Agent-based Parallel PSO (PPSO) is presented to solve the large-scale optimization problem at a faster convergence rate. The new algorithm provides the information exchange among the particle sets which aims to accelerate the rate of convergence. Parallelization is based on the client-server model in which the particle set with global best value acts as a server and others are clients with agents in a single iteration. The agents contain the worst value information of respective particle set which they have to exchange with the global best value among particle sets in the swarm. The server is the center of data exchange, which deals with agents and manages the sharing of global best position among the individual clients by the replacement of worst position with global best position. The information exchange in particle sets has been done so that the new result will be the better as compared to previous result.","PeriodicalId":409794,"journal":{"name":"2014 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123785397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The major disturbance occurred in the Northern grid at 02.33AM of 30th July 2012 leading to a blackout in nearly the entire northern region covering all the 8 States. The main cause was the mal operation of zone 3 distance relay due to load encroachment, weak inter-regional corridor and multiple outage of line. In this paper a new algorithm is proposed for numerical relay to protect grid during load encroachment and avoid the unforeseen blackout. The new algorithm is simulated for numerical relay and gives the expected result and prevents the leading of blackout in electricity grid.","PeriodicalId":409794,"journal":{"name":"2014 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON)","volume":"178 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121980886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various robust statistical estimators of scale are in use for determining the threshold of the filtering process. Real-time filtering requires this estimation to be computationally efficient and realizable within the system constraints. This paper proposes the use of Interquartile range (IQR) for filtering impulsive noise from the signals possessing Gaussian distribution. The efficiency of filtering using IQR has been described through simulation for varying levels of impulsive noise. An iterative threshold for IQR based filtering has been introduced to improve the filtering efficiency. A real-time technique for computing IQR on digital hardware has been introduced. The proposed technique has applications in the areas of passive microwave radiometry, digital communications and radio astronomy.","PeriodicalId":409794,"journal":{"name":"2014 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128591727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Another critical issue associated with packet classification is efficient representation of rules with range(s) which takes multiple TCAM rule entries in the rule table called range expansion. In addition, range expansion process requires a significant amount of redundant information to be stored along with the sub ranges which creates a bottleneck in the performance of packet classification. The proposed architecture at first intends to reduce and fixes the number of rule entries required to define a rule with or without range(s) to exactly one over (2w-2) or in some cases 4(w-1)2 Storage Expansion Ratio (SER) for a w-bit range. Secondly, it avoids the inevitability of range expansion problem and thereby saves a substantial time delay associated with range pre-processing or encoding technique which is done using software. Thirdly, this architecture directly stores a rule irrespective of the range(s) occurring in the port fields (Source Port, Destination Port) by employing a novel memory called SBiCAM. Furthermore, it has been observed that 24-bits are unused per rule entry, so, in the proposed architecture, no such free bits are kept by introducing a novel 7-tuple rule format for storing rule entries in the proposed hybrid rule table and thereby results into high memory utilization. The proposed range matching architecture also exhibits excellent performance in terms of expansion ratio, power and speed.","PeriodicalId":409794,"journal":{"name":"2014 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129451313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to efficiently facilitate dynamic spectrum access (DSA) to the unlicensed users, namely secondary users (SUs), sensing the spectrum (not only unused but whole spectrum) is a necessary mechanism. In this paper, we propose a co-operative sensing framework, in conformation to the regulations stipulated by IEEE 802.22 WRAN standard. The objective of our work is to provide an efficient, yet, easily implementable spectrum discovery scheme following 802.22 standard. Through our work, we have shown that our proposed sensing framework achieves a lower probability of false detection and shows that the sensing procedure can be carried through less expensive receivers with lower sensitivity than those used in other traditional centralized sensing frameworks.","PeriodicalId":409794,"journal":{"name":"2014 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129147292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To generate transformed iris images, various transforms like Cosine, Walsh, Haar, Kekre, Hartley transforms and their wavelet transforms are applied on the iris images. Feature vectors are then generated from these transformed Iris images using the concept of energy compaction of transforms in higher coefficients. 5 different ways are used to generate the feature vectors from the transformed iris images. First way considers all the higher energy coefficients of the transformed iris image while the rest considers 99%, 98%, 97%, and 96% of the higher energy coefficients for generating the feature vector. Considering partial energies reduces the feature vector size thus lowering the number of computations and results shows that this gives better performance. To test the performance of the proposed techniques, Genuine Acceptance Rate (GAR) is used as a metric. Better Performance in terms of Speed and Accuracy is obtained by considering Partial Energies. Among all the Transforms and Wavelet Transforms, Walsh Transform and Walsh Wavelet Transform gives highest GAR value. Results show that most wavelet transforms outperforms other transforms. Also, using Partial Energy gives better performance as compared to using 100% energies. The proposed technique is tested on Palacky University Dataset.","PeriodicalId":409794,"journal":{"name":"2014 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123976853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
