In the study, Salicylic acid (SA) and aspirin (AS) drugs have been used to reduce fruit losses and preserve quality of the fruit. In the current study, peach fruit cv. Tropical Snow was treated with: water (control treatment), two concentrations of aspirin as 0.5 and 1 mM and two concentrations of salicylic acid as 0.5 and 1 mM under two storage conditions (23±1 °C, 85 % ± 5 % RH and 1 °C, 85 % ± 5 % %RH) during two seasons (2020 and 2021). The results indicated that the fruit under room temperature conditions at all treatments could not be stored for more than 3 weeks while fruit under cold storage continued to 9 weeks with acceptable fruit quality. Under the room temperature, treatments did not significantly affect the firmness while SA and AS with high concentrations delayed the reduction in acidity and vitamin C and the increase of SSC and SSC/ Acid ratio. Under cold storage, SA treatments followed by AS treatments significantly preserved fruit quality via reducing weight loss, saving firmness , delaying the decline of acidity and vitamin C and the increase of SSC, SSC/ Acid ratio and antioxidant enzymes activity especially in the last 3 weeks. AS or SA resulted in improving the income by 156.5 US$/ton on the room temperature storage and by 761.5 US$/ton on cold storage conditions.","PeriodicalId":40934,"journal":{"name":"EGYPTIAN JOURNAL OF VETERINARY SCIENCE","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45951423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiment was shown to conclude the influence of SA application on vegetative and flower treats of Calendula officinalis L. grown under salt stress and greenhouse conditions. For this purpose, a split-plot design was led with four concentrations of SA (250, 500, and 750 ppm) addition the control under three levels of salinity water irrigation, tap water (EC1= 0.6 ds .m-1), mixture water (1:1, tap water: well water) (EC2= 2.3 ds .m-1), and well water (EC3= 4.1 ds .m-1) with three replications. The results displayed that salinity diminished the time flowering and leaf pigments values. The spray applications of SA resulted in growth parameters (plant height, no. of leaves, leaf area, shoot and root dry masses), and flowering parameters (no. of inflorescences, a diameter of inflorescences and dry inflorescences mass) of calendula plants under salt stress. The highest leaf pigments values were obtained from 250 ppm SA application under well water treatments. The gas exchange system was determined at the flowering stage. Well water with SA increased proline, Ca, Na, and Cl; but they reduced K and N under salinity stress. Plants treated with 250 ppm SA had the best vegetative and flowering growth parameters at well water. These results recommend that 250 ppm SA might be used as a phytohormone to improve calendula plants which they irrigated by well water.","PeriodicalId":40934,"journal":{"name":"EGYPTIAN JOURNAL OF VETERINARY SCIENCE","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47126688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Shoots and clusters thinning are substantial agricultural practices in grapevines to improve the berries quality. Herein, 10-years-old King Ruby grapevines were examined in two successive seasons. Four different levels of shoots number were applied (48, 42, 36, and 30, shoots/vine) with two different levels of clusters (30 and 24 clusters per vine). Results showed that the gradual decrease of shoots and clusters/vine improved vegetative growth parameters (shoot length and leaf surface area), total chlorophyll content, and microclimatic characteristics (light intensity, air temperature, and relative humidity); however, decreased yield/vine was observed. Consequently, enhanced chemical properties of berries (SSC, SSC/acid ratio total sugars, total anthocyanins, and total phenols) were obtained. In addition, an improved coefficient of wood ripening and total carbohydrates in canes was recorded. Moreover, the progressive increase in the number of shoots/vines in parallel with the decreased number of clusters/vine raised the cluster weight, cluster length, width, berry weight, length, and width. The thinning application of 30 shoots + 24 clusters per vine collectively achieved the significant highest values of vegetative growth, microclimatic parameters and berries quality, therefore, it could be recommended for application in King ruby vineyards under the Egyptian climatic.","PeriodicalId":40934,"journal":{"name":"EGYPTIAN JOURNAL OF VETERINARY SCIENCE","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45476991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The foliar spray was applied in order to determine the optimum rates that would promote yield quality by comparing the bulk Chitosan (CS) with the Chitosan (CS) Nano-particles. The experiment was conducted in 2019 and 2020 with a preliminary season 2018, comprised seven treatments (Control, Chitosan bulk form at 1, 5, 10 cm3/ L and Chitosan Nano-particles at 100, 150, 200 ppm). Results indicated that Chitosan (CS) Nano-particles at 200 ppm was significantly the most effective in stimulating all growth parameters followed by bulk Chitosan at 5 cm3/ L in relation to the control treatment and all other treatments. It has been shown an increase in average yield, cluster weight, berry size, shoot length, anthocyanin, TSS % and leaf pigments content besides its cost effective through reducing the amount of bulk fertilizers.","PeriodicalId":40934,"journal":{"name":"EGYPTIAN JOURNAL OF VETERINARY SCIENCE","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68494311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is due to the limited cultivated area, intensive cultivation, and increasing stress leading to problems that negatively affect production. While the investigations for determining the accurate fertilization amount of the grafted plants are still scarce. Therefore, this experiment was conducted in a private farm located in Badr city, El-Behera governorate, Egypt, to evaluate the performance of non-grafted (control) and grafted cantaloupe plants ( Cucumis melo var. cantaloupenses, cv. Marella F1 hybrid) onto four rootstock cultivars (Cobalt, Ferro, Star, and 6001) then fertilized with nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) at rates of 60, 80, 100, 120, and 140% of these nutrients recommendations for cantaloupe fertilization during the two successive growing seasons of 2018 and 2019. The results indicated that grafting cantaloupe plants onto the tested rootstocks had promoted a higher vegetative growth manifested as plant length, leaves number, shoot fresh and dry weight, stem diameter, and root dry weight, as well as raising leaves content of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and the greenness index (chlorophyll readings, SPAD) along with boosting the average fruit weight, and early and total yield than the control when all were fertilized by any of the applied fertilization rates.
