Virtual machine image files as the most important stored objects in the virtual computing environment include all the information about the whole life cycle of virtual machine. The storage of the virtual machine images is an important part of virtual computing. There are mainly two ways to store the images, which include local storage and networking storage. This paper proposes a mechanism to manage the distributed image files to support the virtual computing environment. It uses the computing nodes` local storage as a chunk server in a distributed file system, and regards the distribution of the image files as a primary factor to choose the computing node to deploy virtual machine and to implement a backup mechanism of distributed images based on historical records of image files. Functional test and performance test results show that it can effectively support the virtual computing environment and has great values of applications and research.","PeriodicalId":408357,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131937860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particularly, economic allocation mechanism is desired to maximize the revenue for commercial cloud providers. This paper uses overbooking from Revenue Management to avoid resource over-provision according to its runtime demand. We propose an economic model to control the overbooking policy while provide users probability based performance guarantee using risk estimation. To cooperate with overbooking policy, we optimize the VM placement with traffic-aware strategy to satisfy application's QoS requirement. We design GreedySelePod algorithm to achieve traffic localization in order to reduce network bandwidth consumption, especially the network bottleneck bandwidth, thus to accept more requests and increase the revenue in the future. The simulation results show that our approach can greatly improve the request acceptance rate and increase the revenue by up to 87% while with acceptable resource confliction.","PeriodicalId":408357,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125948948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The complexity of functionality of CTCS-3 brings some challenges to the safety analysis with the typical methods. In this paper, we propose the method of functional safety analysis based on the hybrid automata, where the faults are modeled as fault events to present the fault situation of system, moreover, the transition from hybrid automata to PHAVer model and the fault monitor which can monitor the malfunction in the reachability analysis are elaborated. At last, we take the speed supervision of CTCS-3 as an example, and the experimental results show the validity and feasibility of this method.","PeriodicalId":408357,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124855890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, component based development (CBD) has been successfully applied to large scale software system in the fields of Software Engineering. Similarly, System Safety Analysis (SSA) has also gained wide used in critical systems in the fields of System Safety Engineering. But they often used their methodology in isolation. Furthermore, shortage of unified formal framework to bridge the gap between the CBD and SSA make it hard to integrate them into a unified rigorous development process for safety critical systems. This paper describes a new approach called Component Fault Tree and Fault Tolerant pattern guided Fault Tolerant Software Architecture (CFT3SA), which bridge the gap between CBD and SSA to realize the seamless integration of CBD and SSA. Furthermore, the formal definitions of Component Fault Tree, Fault tolerant Pattern underpin the systematical verification and validation of fault tolerant systems. A case study from the Odemetry Safe System in the train control domain has been used to valuate the feasibility of the proposed fault tolerant software architectural solution.","PeriodicalId":408357,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127078236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, the quality of information has to be assured in order to support proper decision making in critical systems. In this paper, we present a comprehensive solution to information assurance. First we develop an ontology of information quality metrics, which can be used in assessment as well as in guiding the information processing procedures. To achieve proper information quality assessment, it is necessary to track the information flow as well as detect anomalous information processing flaws. We leverage existing data provenance and anomaly detection technologies and improve them to achieve real-time information quality assessment and problem detection.","PeriodicalId":408357,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133232190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It improves the utilization of most kinds of resource but memory under x86 architecture. Because of inaccurate memory usage estimate and the lack of memory resource management, there is much service performance degradation in data centers, even though they have occupied a large amount of memory. Furthermore, memory becomes insufficient for a physical server when a lot of virtual machines depend on it. In order to improve this, we present a dynamic memory scheduling system called DMSS, which can manage memory resources in server consolidation environments and allocate memory among virtual machines on demand. We have designed and implemented the corresponding memory scheduling policy based on Xen virtualization platform to enhance memory efficiency and achieve service level agreement. The benchmark shows that DMSS can make an accurate and rapid response to memory changes and save more than 30% physical memory with less than 5% performance degradation. DMSS actually brings in economic benefits to cloud service providers because more virtual machines can be accommodated at lower costs.","PeriodicalId":408357,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124424689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the complexity of computing and physical dynamics bring a lot of challenges in the development of CPS, such as integration of heterogeneous physical devices, system verification, security assurance, and so on. A general or unified architecture plays an important part in the process of CPS design. In this paper, we review the current and previous works of CPS architecture, and introduce the main challenges and techniques of architecture development : real-time control, security assurance, integration mechanism. Then we propose a general CPS architecture based on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), the main advantage of this proposed architecture is the integration flexibility of services and components. At the end, we introduce the typical applications of CPS, and suggest the future research areas.","PeriodicalId":408357,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129676024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

How to get the context situation and use the situation to provide better services is a challenging issue. In this paper, we focused on this challenge on the basis of the mobile cloud computing architecture. An abstract model is proposed in this paper to uniformly collect the context and send them to cloud. A rule-based large-scale context aggregation algorithm is also proposed which utilizes the MapReduce computing paradigm. Finally, a large-scale context management framework based on the abstract model and the context aggregation algorithm is proposed, and a real-time traffic demo is implemented to verify the validity of the framework.","PeriodicalId":408357,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122643008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Distributed environment turns into complexity and unpredictability. So it is important to improve programming models on language level to make it possible for programmers unfamiliar with distributed systems to build large-scale applications. Erlang is an actor-based functional programming language that provides language level elements for concurrency. It has capability of describing large quantities of concurrent actions by multiple-process, which communicates asynchronously by sending and receiving messages. But it lacks of data structures and mechanism of language level for inherent concurrent units with a simple way of interaction, which may impede programmers in concurrent programming. Comparing with other computing element models such as Active Object and Concurrent Agent, we extend Erlang with a new computing element called \"EIC_Unit\" and a way of interaction by \"futures\". It makes programmers to develop concurrent applications more easily and convenient in a distributed environment.","PeriodicalId":408357,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123056424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Adaptive Distributed Embedded and Real-Time Java Systems Based on RTSJ","authors":"M. T. There are two RTSJ-based profiles: DRTSJ supporting distributed real-time Java systems and SCJS supporting the development of programs that must be certified. However neither of them considers dynamics characteristics allowing the system to be adapted to the changing environment. Distributed safety-critical systems that must provide continuous service (e.g., air-traffic control systems or enterprise and financial applications) require dynamic updates. Dynamic software modification is a useful capability because the application is able to update itself to fix bugs and add new features without requiring a stop and a restart. In this paper, we overview Java solutions considering real-time requirements in service-oriented component models allowing dynamics updates (e.g., OSGi).","PeriodicalId":408357,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Object/Component/Service-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing Workshops","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130666130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
