Due to its broad range of applications, multimodality has received a lot of attention as an approach to be applied in any fields specifically in education. This bibliometric study aimed to evaluate the global research trends in applying multimodality to ESL classrooms based on publication outputs, co-authorships among authors and affiliated countries, and co-occurrences of author keywords. A total of 1303 journal articles published between 1972 and 2022 were retrieved using the Scopus database. The results demonstrate that the number of publications has been steadily increasing since 1972. Approximately 29% of the global total publications were contributed by researchers from the United States and the TESOL Quarterly published the greatest number of articles related to research on the multimodal approach in ESL classrooms. The findings of this review show that the application of multimodality to ESL classrooms may eventually supplant the clusters that dominated multimodality research in the past. In conclusion, the recent progress in implementing the multimodal approach in ESL classrooms includes the following, but not limited to, i) teaching strategies, ii) teaching environments, and iii) teaching and learning with educational technology.","PeriodicalId":408174,"journal":{"name":"Conhecimento & Diversidade","volume":"30 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138984015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this paper is to evaluate burnout studies to determine the concept of school burnout as well as the elements that impact it. This review incorporates three years of studies on the link between school burnout and secondary and high school student performance as well as recognized cognitive and emotional factors that account for this association. Previous reviews have found moderate correlations between these variables; however, few have discussed the mediating and moderating factors that influence this connection. Systematic searches of psychiatric, educational, and pertinent internet sources were done in December 2022 for research studying school burnout and performance in secondary and high school demographics released between 2019 and 2022. Thirty-eight papers were eligible. The findings from the review of these studies revealed that school burnout was modestly connected to performance. In addition, several mediating and moderating variables, such as emotional tiredness, academic pressure, and family participation, were discovered. However, due to the lack of longitudinal studies analyzed, additional research into how these variables interact over time is required to prove causality and discover the dynamic connection between school burnout, performance, and the motivational and cognitive factors that influence it.","PeriodicalId":408174,"journal":{"name":"Conhecimento & Diversidade","volume":"65 27","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138594763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
