India has shown a remarkable decline in MMR (Maternal Mortality Ratio) during the last two decades. According to the SRS (Sample Registration System), MMR dropped from more than 556 per 100,000 in 1990 to 113 in 2018 and the proportion of deliveries attended by skilled health personnel has increased from 58% in the 1990s to 81% in 2019. In the year 2005, the Government of India launched the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) with the purpose of improving the existing health facilities provided to the community with a special focus on the poor and vulnerable states and societies. NRHM identified ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist), a voluntary community health worker, to provide services to the community on incentives. ASHA workers are the female health workers who have hailed from the same community where they serve. An ASHA worker acts as a link person between the health system and the community. At present, ASHA services are utilised in a number of programmes including maternal and child health, Various studies have extensively documented about ASHAs dissatisfaction with their pay and workload. ASHA services are widely accepted by societies, especially the poor, but issues like sexual harassment, violence, unsafe working conditions, and cast discrimination were also reported.ASHA programme plays a critical role in implementing Government health programmes, especially on MCH. Therefore keeping the ASHA updated and motivated is very important for performing her duties efficiently and effectively.","PeriodicalId":408166,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Holistic Nursing","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114866660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Anxiety is a normal human emotion that is experienced in varying degrees as a state of emotional or physical uneasiness. Excessive anxiety occurs as a response to an actual or anticipated situation or as a pathological state.Aim: The study aimed to find the efficacy of teaching programme on knowledge regarding anxiety among GNM students by assessing their knowledge before and after intervention through pre and post-test.Materials and Methods: Pre-experimental approach was adopted for the study with one group pre-test post-test design. 30 GNM students studying in Dolphin Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, District Pulwama were selected by using non-probability purposive sampling technique. Data were collected by using a self-structured questionnaire. The collected data were organised and analysed according to the objectives of the study using descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: The mean post-test knowledge score was higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score. This indicates the effectiveness of the planned teaching programme in increasing the level of knowledge of GNM students regarding anxiety. There was no statistically significant association between pre-test knowledge score of the subjects with the selected demographic variables such as age, gender, residence, type of family, occupation of parents at 0.05 level of significance.Conclusion: The findings of the study conclude that GNM students were not possessing adequate knowledge regarding anxiety. The planned teaching programme was found to be effective in increasing their knowledge level of study subjects.","PeriodicalId":408166,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Holistic Nursing","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123717636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of the mother in creating a healthy population is beyond explanation. The mother plays a key role in the prevention of infection in the neonatal period. Neonatal period is the most vulnerable period in an infant’s life. Among all the age groups, neonates are the most susceptible to morbidity and mortality. It is important to support the mother by providing adequate knowledge regarding the prevention and early identification of neonatal infections.Objectives: 1.) To assess the knowledge of primigravida mothers regarding the prevention of neonatal infections. 2.) To determine the association of the level of knowledge of primigravida mothers regarding the prevention of neonatal infections with their selected demographic variables. Material & Methods: An exploratory survey approach was selected for the study. Non-probability convenience sampling was used in the present study, and the knowledge of primigravida mothers regarding the prevention of neonatal infections was assessed by a structured knowledge questionnaire.Results: The mean knowledge score of primigravida mothers was 16.5 and standard deviation was 3.713. The knowledge scores of primigravida mothers regarding the prevention of neonatal infections showed that only 2 (05.00%) primigravida mothers had good knowledge. Majority of the primigravida mothers (28 (70.00%)) had average knowledge, and 10 (25.00%) had poor knowledge.Conclusion: The finding of the study revealed that the knowledge of primigravida mothers regarding the prevention of neonatal infections was inadequate.","PeriodicalId":408166,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Holistic Nursing","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126560900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ECMO was considered a very good option for conventional cardiopulmonary bypass technique and evolved into treatment of severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) during the 1970s. Many kinds of research have been done on a similar topic. The initial reports on the utilisation of ECMO in ARDS patients were very exciting, and afterwards, ECMO proved to be certainly advantageous in infants having acute respiratory failure with a survival rate of almost 80%. There were two large randomised controlled trials, done during the period of 1979-1994 in adults with ARDS, that showed the failure of ECMO, with the survival rate range between 10% to 33%in the ECMO groups. Since then, ECMO treatment for ARDS patients has undergone further advancements by combining with lung-protective ventilation strategies and further by applying heparin-coated equipment, membranes, and tubings. Many healthcare facilities have used this advanced ECMO technology and achieved survival rates of more than 50%. However, whether improved ECMO can really challenge the advanced conventional treatment of adult ARDS is still a matter of debate and needs further studies.It was seen that acute respiratory failure requires intensive care. In few cases where ventilator support doesn’t prove effective, only the option of V-V ECMO remains. The present article describes the case of a 22-year-old female patient who was admitted with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome with associated multiple organ failure. The patient was admitted to the emergency of the Fortis Hospital with suspected acute kidney injury of unknown aetiology. After the initial 4 days of diagnostics at the ward, the patient required a further 24 days of hospital treatment and spent 16 days at the Intensive Care Unit. There, she underwent ECMO V-V therapy, lasting 14 days, which resulted initially in the improvement of his arterial blood gas parameters and clinical condition but later on, she developed pneumothorax and her condition worsened day by day gradually becoming critical.","PeriodicalId":408166,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Holistic Nursing","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124715042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a behavioural process for maintaining the equilibrium of one’s needs and obstacles offered by the environment. The rapid changes in the contemporary society contribute to adjustment problems among adolescents. Adjusting to constant changes in their internal as well as external environment becomes a major challenge during this stage. This study was conducted to assess the adjustment problems faced by adolescent boys in comparison to adolescent girls in the home, health, social, and emotional areas.Methodology: Quantitative research approach with a comparative descriptive research design was used to assess and compare the adjustment problems among adolescent boys and girls. Convenience sampling technique was used to collect the data from the 100 adolescent students (50 boys and 50 girls) using Bell’s adjustment inventory by RK Ojha. Results & Conclusion: Data analysis revealed that there is a significant difference in the adjustment problems among adolescent boys and girls (p = 0.019). On comparison, adolescent girls have been found to be suffering from more adjustment problems (mean ± SD = 66.84 ± 16.853) than boys (mean ± SD = 58.60 ± 17.682). No significant association could be found between the adjustment problems of boys with residence, type of family, education of parents, occupation of parents, and religion, while a significant association could be found between adjustment problems among girls and type of family (p = 0.02).","PeriodicalId":408166,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Holistic Nursing","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130321850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
