The aim of this work was to highlight changes in habits of life for children and teenagers with a particular focus on school activities. An on-line questionnaire was administrated to 5022 parents of children aged from 3 to 18 years. Results showed that secondary schools were able to guarantee at least hours of on-line lessons for half of the ordinary timing of schools. For preschooler and primary school, it seems that the recommended attention to maintain relations between the class group was less respected. So it seems that, during lockdown, children and teenagers were exposed to poverty of education and deprivation of social relationships. Probably due to lack of an adequate training for teachers, distance learning did not favored didactics strategies different from the traditional ones above all for preschool and primary schools.","PeriodicalId":407986,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies (ECPS Journal)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125571553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A brief overview of the most used measures of interrater absolute agreements for ordinal rating scales is provided, and a new index is proposed that has several advantages. In particular, the new index allows to evaluate the agreement between raters for each single case (subject or object), and to obtain also a global measure of the interrater agreement for the whole group of cases evaluated. The possibility of having evaluations of the agreement on the single case is particularly useful, for example, in situations where the rating scale is being tested, and it is necessary to identify any changes to it, or to request the raters for a specific comparison on the single case in which the disagreement occurred. The index is not affected by the possible concentration of ratings on a very small number of levels of the ordinal scale.","PeriodicalId":407986,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies (ECPS Journal)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114631576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dimensions investigated correspond to the 7 strategies already tested in the previous versions (lower secondary and primary school, Castellana, 2018, 2020a): identifying reading purposes, activating previous knowledge, making predictions, selecting main information, using graphic organizers and a scale on the self-perception of the difficulties. The new questionnaire consisting of 82 items, was linguistically revised and items that investigate more complex levels of the reading process were added. It was administered to a convenience sample of 543 students, attending the fourth and fifth grades of upper secondary school and Ist-IIIrd year students of the Sapienza University of Rome and Parma. The factor analysis of the questionnaire confirmed the 7 dimensional structure. The questionnaire reduced to 53 items was used within the OFA Italian course of the Department of Psychology at Sapienza University, as an instrument for metacognitive self-assessment of reading and as support for teaching understanding. The scores obtained by the students (99) on the QSL were correlated with the scores of the final test of the course. The value of correlation found between the tests and questionnaire is significant and equal to .377.","PeriodicalId":407986,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies (ECPS Journal)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130197106","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This five years-research is meant to develop an Italian adaptation of the program, compare it with traditional teaching, and determine the impact of working memory (WM) on math learning. 56 primary school children participated in the research. Since grade I, 13 pupils (controls) followed traditional teaching of math; 43 children worked with NW, 3 hours a week for 7 months. The pupils were assessed with two WM tests, the Number Knowledge Test (NKT), and the Number Line Estimation Task (NLET) at the beginning of Grade I and at the end of each Grade. At the end of Grade V, the AC-MT battery was also administered. The experimental group improved more than controls on the NKT and NLET from Grade I to IV. At the end of Grade V, both groups showed a «ceiling effect» in the NKT and NLET performance. However, a difference in favour of the experimental group was found in some AC-MT tasks. WM, together with the curriculum, was predictive of mathematics performance up to class IV.","PeriodicalId":407986,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies (ECPS Journal)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126065040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a reasoned review of the literature on the main ongoing university guidance interventions, with particular attention to the prevention of drop-out and the promotion of academic success. Previous studies highlighted the role that ongoing guidance can play in the prosecution of studies and in reducing drop-out rates, as well as in favouring the integration of the subject in the academic context and raising awareness of his or her goals. Nonetheless, in the literature there is no univocal consensus regarding the fundamental characteristics of an effective guidance intervention. Starting from a critical analysis of some recent results, the main methodological issues of guidance research are illustrated, with particular reference to the strategies for evaluating the efficacy of interventions. In line with the main previous reviews, the need to conduct systematic studies guided by empirical evidence is emphasised, using rigorous research designs to identify the factors involved in the effectiveness of ongoing university guidance.","PeriodicalId":407986,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies (ECPS Journal)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130608420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 265 senior secondary student’s male participated in this study. Participants’ ages ranged from 16 to 18. Instruments measuring emotional reassurance, optimism, and psychological resilience, were administered to senior secondary students in Quranic Memorization Schools (QMSs). The researcher used the Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis technique. The findings indicated that there was a positive correlation between psychological resilience and emotional reassurance among the students on the level of 0.01. Furthermore, the findings indicated that there was a positive correlation between psychological resilience and optimism among the sample on the level of 0.01. Finally, the findings also showed that the emotional reassurance and optimism contributed statistically significant in the prediction of psychological resilience among secondary school students. Therefore, academic counsellors, teachers, school principals, and parents should develop optimism, emotional reassurance and psychological resilience, self-esteem in their students and children in the early years.","PeriodicalId":407986,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies (ECPS Journal)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114801189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective is to analyze the functioning of a measuring instrument, used in the context of an investigation on reading in the high schools of three Italian regions – Basilicata, Calabria and Campania – in order to improve and perfect this instrument in view of the subsequent research phases. The reflections that follow are intended to provide a guide for the interpretation of the response frequencies, the indices of discrimination and difficulty, useful for establishing which questions need further revision. By analyzing internal consistency, construct validity, understood as item discriminativity, difficulty, biserial point values and distribution of answers on the four options provided by the multiple answer, we intend to demonstrate how, by administering the same test several times, we they can obtain new indications that allow them to file and refine the problematic questions, reflecting on the critical issues that have emerged (Agrusti, 2008).","PeriodicalId":407986,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies (ECPS Journal)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122750323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this work is to introduce a logical framework to «align» educational concepts and objectives, starting from international and national indications on school curricula, with health promotion concepts and objectives (in particular life skill and life skill education). A working group composed of 26 school representatives and health promotion professionals has been set up and in a participatory way they have produced alignment tables for different school orders. The tables propose an alignment between: European key competences for lifelong learning, student profile competences, targets for competence development, life skills and LifeSkills Training objectives. The logical framework offers a comparison between different conceptualisations of competences useful for learning and people’s well-being. It can also serve as a guideline for school planning competence-based oriented towards health promotion and it can represent an operationalisation of cross-sectoral collaboration.","PeriodicalId":407986,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies (ECPS Journal)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125198475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study is aimed at analysing the self-awareness of primary school teachers of the teaching of refugee and immigrant students in Italy. The survey of Kurbegovic within its 30 items (Cronbach’s Alpha = .86) was conducted on a sample of 190 teachers who teach in primary schools in Rome. After removing 2 items that are cross loading, the exploratory factor analysis (Maximum likelihood method with Oblimin rotation) confirms a five-factor structure and shows a good construct validity and reliability. Current research reveals that the survey of teachers’ perspectives on refugee and immigrant populations is appropriately adapted to assess Italian primary school teachers’ views. This tool demonstrates its usefulness not only for research but also for pedagogical practice and can help to create an inclusive classroom environment that provide students with equal access to the curriculum and learning experiences.","PeriodicalId":407986,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies (ECPS Journal)","volume":"25 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120860842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a cross-sectional study that evaluated 1093 students from a private university in Chile. The instruments used were the academic self-concept scale (ASCS), the variables of educational level of the parents and students previous experience in higher education. Bivariate correlations were made using the Spearman coefficient, associations using Pearson’s Chi-Square, and mean difference using the Mann-Whitney U between ASCS with the parents’ educational level and previous experience in higher education. The outcomes indicate correlation, association and mean difference (p < .05) between the ASCS and the educational level of the mother when she has university studies, as well as with the existence of previous experiences in higher education, being the father’s educational level of no significant impact. In conclusion, academic self-concept is greater when students have a mother with university studies and when they have previous experiences in higher education.","PeriodicalId":407986,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational, Cultural and Psychological Studies (ECPS Journal)","volume":"333 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122845849","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
