The window studied in this paper is a triple-glazing type window pane in which spaces contain dry air. The window is placed in a specially developed test chamber at the Energy and Environmental Research Laboratory of Central Greece University of Applied Sciences at Chalkida. At one side of the test chamber variable temperature environment for different temperature waving scenarios (20–30°C, 25–35°C, 20–35°C) adequate for Greek climate and at the other side steady constant temperature environment (20°C, 25°C) representing indoors conditions were created. Glass surface temperatures at both sides of the tested window pane and heat flux through it were measured. For triple-glazing thermal transmittance calculation a model of equations in visual basic was developed which accounts for the equations of conduction, convection and radiation in every layer of window pane. A sufficient agreement between the experimental results and the results of the model is noticed.","PeriodicalId":407983,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Engineering","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126145775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A uniform magnetic field of magnitude is applied normal to the plate. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into a system of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations and then solved numerically using the Keller-box method. The numerical results are compared and found to be in good agreement with previously published results as special cases of the present investigation. The rate of heat and mass transfer at the plate are presented graphically for various values of coupling number, magnetic parameter, Prandtl number, Schmidt number, Dufour and Soret numbers. In addition, the skin-friction coefficient, the wall couple stress are shown in a tabular form.","PeriodicalId":407983,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Engineering","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129017428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is no non-renewable energy source, which would be a completely \"clean and green\" energy source. Unfortunately, while getting the energy, we usually impact our environment in some negative way. All energy sources affect the environment in different levels. Some nonrenewable energy sources, such as coal, have a greater impact than others. Fortunately, the energy industries have become gradually aware of the importance of environmental protection and are working to reduce its longterm negative effects. This special issue tends to report on critical issues of the environment, including remediation and treatment of solid or aqueous wastes, air pollution, sustainable energy, the investigation of trends in and solutions to resolving the issues of continuing increase in worldwide demand for energy, the diminishing accessibility of natural energy resources, and the growing impact of energy use on the environment. Several papers were received for this special issue and after rigorous peerreview process, three top papers were accepted for this issue. We believe that this collection of papers is a very good reflection of the standard and the variety of the research that is going on in the chemical engineering with focus on environmental impact and energy resources. We would like to thank all the authors for submitting their papers, and all the referees for their important contributions. We are grateful to Dr Anna Kowalska, the managing editor of CEJE, for her support in publishing this special issue.","PeriodicalId":407983,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130695085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The circuits are simulated with a 90-nm CMOS technology including modeling of layout parasites. Integrated bias trees and passive port matching networks are incorporated in the K-band designs. In the face of process mismatch, variability in noise and gain figures remains <0.39 dB and <7.1 dB from the design values. The five combinations of building blocks in twostage low-power (6.1–6.6 mW) amplifiers achieve linearity (IIP3) in the range of −5.2∼–13.5 dBm, good reverse isolation (better than −26 dB), 2.89–3.82 dB noise penalties, and 17.2–25.5 dB peak forward gain. In case of threestage front-ends built with CS, CC, and CG blocks (power rating 9.2–9.6 mW), forward gain and optimized noise figures are found as >33 dB and <3.26 dB, respectively. They achieve −2.5∼18.3 dBm IIP3, <−39 dB reverse isolation, and <−17 dB minimum IRL. The results are compared with reported simulated findings on CMOS multistage amplifiers to highlight their relative advantages in terms of power requirement and decibel(gain)-per-watt.","PeriodicalId":407983,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Engineering","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129025278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Temperature inputs from the CFD are used by the model to evaluate the dry and latent heat flux from the body surface and output them as boundary conditions. This is an iterative process and convergence is ensured by under-relaxation of the latent heat flux. The model also considers the dry and latent heat resistance of clothing. Numerical predictions of the body heat loss and airflow are compared against physical measurements in a climate chamber. Good agreement was observed when using the low Reynolds number turbulence model. The integrated simulation performs well under wide set of conditions, predicting body core and skin temperature, blood flow, skin wittedness, as well as the transfer of heat and moisture released by the body into the room.","PeriodicalId":407983,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Engineering","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124562158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These models are characterized by the following features in the case of normal impact: either they determine the relations between the ”integral characteristics” of penetration (depth of penetration, ballistic limit velocity) in the explicit form (in algebraic form or including quadratures) or they describe local interactions between the shield and the penetrator in the points of the penetrator-shield contact surface that yield such integral characteristics. In this overview we present more or less comprehensively all widely used and also not well known analytical models which have been suggested for describing high-speed penetration into metal shields. This survey is characterized by the following distinguishing features: (i) includes an unprecedented large number of models; (ii) presents models suggested during recent years; (iii) analyzes models which have been originally published in Russian and are not well known in the West.","PeriodicalId":407983,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Engineering","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123471549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measurements of temperatures and static pressures were carried out for flow from three orifices of 5, 10 and 20 mm diameter for orifice-to-target plate distances of 5, 10, 25, 50, 70, 100 and 120 mm from the orifice exit. The axial development of flow structure of the jet from the orifice was investigated by measuring the radial jet velocity distributions at the same axial distances used to measure heat transfer and static pressure. The results show that pressure coefficients distributions on the target plate are similar to the velocity distributions in the impinging jet which indicates the strong relationship between the two parameters. The pressure coefficients from large orifice diameter are higher than the values from the small orifice diameter for same orifice-to-target plate distance. The results also show a nonlinear increase of heat transfer rate with orifice size and the ratio of axial distance to orifice diameter (X/d). The nonlinear behaviour may be attributed to the complex nature of flow structure at the stagnation region. The high velocity gradients at the stagnation zone leads to higher turbulence and comparatively higher values of heat transfer rates for large orifice diameter.","PeriodicalId":407983,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Engineering","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130233486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, relationships between binder parameters determined from multiple stress creep and recovery tests were correlated to the creep parameters of hot asphalt concrete mixes obtained from cyclic load compression testing. For the determination of creep parameters, a modified expression of the creep curve is proposed to cover the entire spectrum of permanent deformation; including the tertiary creep phase. Non-recoverable compliance, unrecovered strain, and recoverable strain of binders show good correlation to creep parameters of hot asphalt concrete mixes such as creep rate and high temperature performance ratio. Additionally, unrecovered strain and non-recoverable compliance of binders correlates well with mean rut depth of asphalt concrete mixes. However, no correlation has been detected between the difference in non-recoverable compliance of binders and permanent deformation parameters of asphalt concrete mixes.","PeriodicalId":407983,"journal":{"name":"Central European Journal of Engineering","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130829132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
