The new instrument consists of an ultrasonic endoscope and an electro-magnetic measurement sensor. The pseudo 3D volume is reconstructed by superimposing ultrasound images captured by the ultrasonic endoscope. So the new instrument shows not only the surface of organs, but also the 3D volume of inside of organs. However, it was reported that the ultrasound probe influenced the accuracy of the sensors, so it is necessary to investigate the influence of the ultrasound endoscope to the sensor. In this paper, we propose a 3D volume reconstruction system using 2D ultrasound images, and show experimental results of accuracy measurement experiments of two kinds of electro-magnetic measurement sensors and 3D visualization with actual ultrasound images.","PeriodicalId":407640,"journal":{"name":"2009 Advanced Technologies for Enhanced Quality of Life","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129518095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Learning from the complexities involved in information processing in real life scenarios, decision making processes by a fleet of unmanned underwater vehicles can be extensively simplified by the introduction of language-centered intelligence (LCI). LCI uses the logic associated with operating the vehicle, including the logic used for processing language, to evaluate scenarios and make decisions. Implementation of LCI occurred in two steps: first, a centralized inspection planner for a decentralized fleet of unmanned underwater vehicles was implemented, followed by a look-ahead inspections module which uses the inspections planner and portrays the application of LCI in a mine search operation.","PeriodicalId":407640,"journal":{"name":"2009 Advanced Technologies for Enhanced Quality of Life","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131306621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper is present the k-means method to analyze the different parameter of input for identification the analyte concentration. The biosensor signal are acquired with Potentiostat - Autolab, PGStat10. The aim of this work is create an automatic system for data acquisition and processing. The analyte concentration identification depends of many parameters as the current corresponding to the neutral solution, the current peak of the saturated solution, dimensions of the electrodes, the time periods of saturation or neutralisation. These parameters are used as inputs classification system for a calibration current-time-concentration dependency. Amperometric biosensor has application in medicine, chemistry, physic, environment engineering.","PeriodicalId":407640,"journal":{"name":"2009 Advanced Technologies for Enhanced Quality of Life","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131077472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system, called Daphne, may measure the reaction of a person evaluating the time response in the motion of one finger of the hand, the velocity of phalanxes, the force exerted from the finger against a button. Daphne performs the more modern aspect connected with concurrent and simultaneous engineering, and utilizes results in design with colors applications. It represents a new step towards the possibility of quantitative analysis of the performances of the human hand both of mechanical phenomenon and electromyographic of neuromotor diseases, which provoke a decrease in upper and lower limbs action. Daphne is characterized by an ergonomic design of reduced dimensions; its hardware and user-friendly software allow an easy and quick use by non expert users as well. Moreover, the system can be used not only in medical field, but also in the daily health and sports. Daphne is a portable device that performs an analysis of multiple parameters, such as: reaction time, speed, tremor, force, and ability of coordination and synchronization of the motion of a finger. The system also satisfies the requirements for medical applications in accordance to European normative for safety and quality. The reconfiguration concepts are used for a larger spread of use of Daphne in many fields of biorobotics and rehabilitation.","PeriodicalId":407640,"journal":{"name":"2009 Advanced Technologies for Enhanced Quality of Life","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124119179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) remains the treatment of choice for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Automatic CPAP (APAP) can be use, not only for treatment but also for suggesting the optimum CPAP setting. Ninety-five newly diagnosed patients were included (mean age 51±9.6 years) with moderate and severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. The patients were randomly allocated to one of the investigated devices: APAP or fixed pressure CPAP. A lower mean effective pressure seen in AUTO group 7.67cm H2O vs CPAP 8.51 cm H2O (CI 95% 0.08 – 1.6, p=0.03) and CPAP patients presented statistically significant lower residual AHI (mean difference 1.6, CI 95% 0.7 – 2.5, p=0.001). As a conclusion the AUTO approach seems to be similarly effective as CPAP and provide a method for determining a single fixed pressure, suitable for long term treatment with a conventional CPAP device.","PeriodicalId":407640,"journal":{"name":"2009 Advanced Technologies for Enhanced Quality of Life","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122691004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A neuroprosthesis is supposed to provide the control over the muscles of a disabled person during a rehabilitation process. The control method developed under Matlab®&Simulink® implements the mathematical model of the human body, the modeled muscles being electrically stimulated and the resulted motion is shown by controlling a humanoid-like robotic structure. The main feature of the proposed humanoid-like robotic structures is to support the training, development, implementation and testing of user defined control algorithms for a neuroprosthesis.","PeriodicalId":407640,"journal":{"name":"2009 Advanced Technologies for Enhanced Quality of Life","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127933835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
