The shift in focus in social work education to a competency-based approach can be applied and understood in varying ways. The current research study examined the use of waiver exams as one iteration of competency-based education in social work education. Forty seven of the 496 programs that replied to the survey indicated they offered some form of placement testing or the use of waiver exams. Further examination of program level policies suggests that social work educators continue to focus on policies and practices aligned with traditional seat-time requirements that run contrary to the principles of competency-based education. Results implicate the need for social work education to examine its commitment to competency-based education in all its forms or to at least encourage research in nontraditional approaches aligned with competency-based education including waiver exams and prior learning assessment.","PeriodicalId":407620,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Baccalaureate Social Work","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125084871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One common, adverse experience is exposure to bullying. However, the degree to which schools of social work address bullying and thus prepare students to effectively intervene has yet to be investigated. Using a sample of 146 BSW students, the purpose of the present study was to describe students' exposure to content specific to traditional and cyberbullying and their general knowledge and perceptions of these issues and to explore students' reported self-efficacy to intervene and their preparedness to address bullying in their practice with youths and their families. Results revealed several notable trends. Overall, students reported little exposure to bullying-related content and only moderate levels of self-efficacy and preparedness to intervene. Implications for baccalaureate social work education are discussed in the context of enhancing bullying-related content, including exposure to efficacious prevention and intervention strategies.","PeriodicalId":407620,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Baccalaureate Social Work","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121500677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is limited pedagogical literature regarding either the instruction or application of IPE in any given profession. Based on a co-teaching model of instruction, this article delineates the preparation and integration process of a pilot course on IPE. The pilot course was taught at a small liberal arts college where it was cross-listed in two undergraduate professional programs in social work and speech-language pathology. This article discusses the relevance of including IPE in allied health professional training programs. Additionally, this article outlines the timeline for developing and implementing the course, from conceptualization to the integration phases including implications from student evaluations of their experience in the course. Elements of the course including delivery, descriptions of assignments, and projects also are discussed.","PeriodicalId":407620,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Baccalaureate Social Work","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130444926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
