Den argumenterer for, at transformation finder sted på tre niveauer af orden, konceptualiseret som det globale ordensniveau, det internationale ordensniveau og det nationale ordensniveau. Artiklen viser, at transformation i øjeblikket finder sted på alle tre niveauer: i det idémæssige grundlag for den globale regelbaserede orden; i antallet af ordensenheder på det internationale ordensniveau, hvor den russiskledede eurasiske orden og den kinesiskledede bælte-og-vej-orden i øjeblikket tager form; og på det nationale ordensniveau gennem fremkomsten af højrepopulisme. Artiklen viser, at disse to faktorer og deres indbyrdes forbindelser i høj grad bestemmer karakteren og tendensen i den globale orden. Kinas holdning til Ukrainekrigen afspejler landets strategiske beregninger i lyset af dets stormagtsrivalisering med USA. Alliancen mellem Kina og Rusland er et hjælpemiddel, og Ukrainekrigen er en god mulighed for de to lande til at promovere en ny international sikkerhedsarkitektur, som ikke er domineret af Vesten. Artiklen konkluderer, at Ruslands krig i Ukraine kombineret med rivalisering og afkobling mellem Kina og USA driver en tilbagevenden til konventionel geopolitisk konkurrence og splittelse. Beskrivelsen af denne nye virkelighed af stormagtsrivalisering er dog kun en del af det billede, som tegner sig. For sagen er den, at vores idéer om, hvordan trusler skal bekæmpes, og hvem der har ansvaret for denne bekæmpelse, er fundamentalt forandret. Dagens geopolitik kæmpes nemlig ikke kun af stater, indenfor rammerne af diplomatiet og de militære institutioner, men også af private virksomheder. There has been a general agreement that the state of affairs following the end of the Cold War was untenable, and that something different and more durable would replace the alleged US-led order. This debate has become more acute following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. In the aftermath of the invasion, Russian president Vladimir Putin has reached out to the Global South in particular, and he has spoken about a more democratic, inclusive, and respectful order on numerous occasions. Based on three representative surveys, we examine how citizens’ demand for critical journalism developed through the corona crisis, and who particularly demanded this type of journalism. Our results show that the demand for critical journalism increased over time, and that it was especially the voters of the opposition parties who demanded it. Based on quantitative and comparative surveys, the article examines popular attitudes to COVID-19-related issues in a democratic micronation within the Danish kingdom, the Faroe Islands. Furthermore, the article examines what demographic factors can explain popular support for the way public authorities have managed the pandemic as well as the willingness to be vaccinated. The article concludes that the COVID-19 pandemic has united the Faroese population across partisan, ideological and other demographic cleavages. I denne artikel undersøger vi, hvilke psykologiske faktorer der var mest afgørende for danskernes adfærd under anden bølge af pandemien. Baseret på en spørgeskemaundersøgelse, der er repræsentativ for den voksne danske befolkning, viser vi, at folk, der (1) oplever coronavirusset som en personlig trussel, (2) oplever, at en ændret adfærd gør en forskel (”responseffektivitet”), (3) oplever, at en ændret adfærd ikke har høje omkostninger (”responsomkostninger”), samt (4) har høj institutionel tillid, er mere tilbøjelige til at agere i overensstemmelse med de smittebeskyttende adfærdsråd. Samtidig viser vi, at faktorerne (2)-(4) neutraliserer sammenhængen mellem trusselsfølelsen og den smittebeskyttende adfærd. First, it introduces the distinction between methods and methodology. Second, it briefly describes the three methodologies prevailing within the social sciences: the variance-oriented, the process-oriented and the meaning-oriented methodology. These are illustrated with a recurring example. Methods are tools. They may be qualitative or quantitative. Methodologies are interpretive frameworks, best understood as languages. As you cannot expect to be understood in another language if you translate word by word, you cannot transfer the underlying logic from one methodology to another. Here, we study how psychological factors relate to such behavior change during the second wave of the pandemic. Using survey data representative of the adult Danish population, we demonstrate that people who (1) perceive the coronavirus as a personal threat, (2) perceive that behavior change makes a difference (“response efficacy”), (3) perceive that behavior change does not come with high costs (“response costs”), and (4) have high institutional trust are more willing to comply with health-protective behavioral advice. Furthermore, we show that the factors (2)-(4) mute the association between personal threat and protective behavior. For det første introducerer den skellet mellem metode og metodologi. For det andet beskriver den kort de tre metodologier, der dominerer inden for samfundsvidenskaberne – den variansorienterede, den procesorienterede og den meningsorienterede – og illustrerer brugen af dem med et gennemgående eksempel. Metoder er redskaber. De kan være kvalitative eller kvantitative. Metodologier er forståelsesrammer, der bedst forstås som sprog. Ligesom man ikke kan gøre sig forståelig på et andet sprog ved at oversætte ord for ord, kan man ikke uden videre overføre logikken fra én metodologi til en anden.
