Arising from the above economic axiom, this study investigated the impact of transport and electricity infrastructures on economic development and growth in sub-Saharan Africa. The study used panel data from fifteen (15) sub-Saharan African countries. Panel data were obtained from statistical bulletins of the various countries and World Bank Indicators (WBI) from 2000-2022. Data obtained were analyzed via descriptive, diagnostic and inferential statistics. Specifically, the fixed and random effects regression revealed that while there is a significant relationship between transportation and electricity infrastructures and economic growth, an insignificant relationship was found between transportation and electricity infrastructures and economic development in the selected sub-Saharan African countries. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that governments in sub-Saharan Africa needs to increase their contributions and support for electricity and transportation infrastructures; this can be done by increasing budgetary allocation for critical infrastructures in countries of sub-Saharan Africa","PeriodicalId":406884,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Economics and Sustainable Development","volume":"22 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140671528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data for the study were extracted from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) statistical bulletin. The method of data analysis used is the linear regression method with the application of the Error Correction Model (ECM). The major findings of the study reveal that interest rate has a negative and insignificant effect on importation in Nigeria, exchange rate has a positive and insignificant effect on importation in Nigeria, broad money supply has a positive and significant effect on importation in Nigeria and there is a causal relationship between importation, trade openness and broad money supply. It is therefore the recommendation of the study that there is need for boosting domestic production so as to contend high level of import that may have a detrimental effect on our external reserves. Secondly; the Nigerian authorities should carry out reforms that would enhance the role of interest rate in order to mobilize funds for trade purposes.","PeriodicalId":406884,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Economics and Sustainable Development","volume":"3 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140739851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was guided by three specific objectives as indicated by independent variables namely Tax Service Reliability, Tax Service Responsiveness and Tax Service Tangibility. The study adopted a positivist philosophy, employed a deductive approach, and utilized survey strategy. The study was conducted in Ilala Municipal with a sample of 384 respondents. Probability sampling procedure was applied through simple random sampling technique. The study used both primary and secondary data. Primary data was collected through questionnaires. Peer reviewed journal articles relevant for the subject matter, national tax and trade statistics reports from Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) were reviewed for secondary data. Data was analyzed using the OLS regression model. This study has found that Tax Service Reliability and responsiveness has no significant influence on presumptive tax payer’s compliance in Ilala Tax Region. Also the study revealed Tax Service Tangibility to have a significant positive influence on presumptive taxpayers’ compliance in the Ilala tax region. From the results, this study recommends Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) to focus on enhancing the perceived reliability of their tax services, including measures to ensure consistent interpretation and application of tax regulations, improving the accuracy of tax assessments, expediting the issuance of tax-related documents, enhancing the transparency of tax procedures and policies, and maintaining reliable online tax filing systems. Additionally, they should prioritize improving responsiveness to taxpayers’ needs by enhancing the promptness of addressing inquiries and concerns, making tax authority representatives more accessible through various communication channels, offering comprehensive assistance and guidance, and ensuring clarity in tax-related communication materials to enhance taxpayers’ understanding and compliance.","PeriodicalId":406884,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Economics and Sustainable Development","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139957331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among these factors is the quality of governance; thus, this study examined how the interaction between foreign direct investment (FDI) and governance affects the performance of the Nigerian economy by relying on annual time series data spanning 1986 to 2021. The results from the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model revealed that the interaction between governance and foreign direct investment exerts a positive and highly significant impact on economic performance. Apparently, the interaction between governance and foreign direct investment appears to be elastic. The foregoing suggests that governance is a significant moderating factor between foreign direct investment and economic performance in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":406884,"journal":{"name":"African Journal of Economics and Sustainable Development","volume":"19 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139275936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
