The authors consider an 8-PAM system with 144 Mbits/sec and a two-ray model for the cross-polarization interference. Based on the principles of the Wiener filter, a theoretical analysis of the canceler's structure is provided, presenting XPIC as a particular case of systems identification. Simulation results show the dynamic behavior of the adaptive XPIC for different levels of cross interference.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":405932,"journal":{"name":"SBT/IEEE International Symposium on Telecommunications","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130406217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is based on the Gram-Charlier series and takes into account the effect of filtering on the baseband signal disturbed by non-Lorentzian phase noise from external-cavity semiconductor lasers and additive Gaussian noise. It is found that the filter decreases the impact of laser phase noise, namely by reducing the degradation due to relaxation oscillations.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":405932,"journal":{"name":"SBT/IEEE International Symposium on Telecommunications","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132307715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The average yearly probability of occurrence of both phenomena is extracted from data measured in Italy at some 20 locations over many years, together with year-to-year and site-to-site variability. The statistical characteristics of the duration of both rain and cloud occurrence are also analyzed to derive indications for the appropriate dimensioning of such systems.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":405932,"journal":{"name":"SBT/IEEE International Symposium on Telecommunications","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132815571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They evaluate the exact results for the M/M/1/K processor sharing sojourn time distribution and show that it is of phase-type. Numerical results demonstrate the amount of smoothing induced by the limit K, as well as the robustness of the overload performance. For the case of general holding time distributions, in the absence of contention from other virtual circuits, i.e. the M/G/1/K processor sharing queue, the authors present an approximate method for evaluating the coefficient of variation of the sojourn time distribution, and compare these results with simulations.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":405932,"journal":{"name":"SBT/IEEE International Symposium on Telecommunications","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132214577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Taking advantage of the progress in optical transmission technique, the first HSLAN based on a token passing ring, namely FDDI (fiber distributed data interface) has now become commercially available. However, several other strategies to determine the token holding duration at a station may be applied, e.g. single service or exhaustive service. The author evaluates and compares the performance of these token ring protocols for a high-speed backbone network interconnecting possibly heterogeneous conventional local area subnetworks. Every media access protocol under consideration has been shown to work very well for typical numbers of stations (<or=25) in the asynchronous mixed traffic environment. At heavy load the FDDI protocol performs better than the single service strategy due to the educed token rotation overhead, especially for larger values of T-OPR.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":405932,"journal":{"name":"SBT/IEEE International Symposium on Telecommunications","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115876313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
