Particular attention is paid to the identification of the most frequent methods of translation of hate speech, which allows the preservation of its linguo pragmatic and socio-cultural features. The linguo pragmatic and sociocultural aspects are also considered. The article presents the results of the quantitative analysis of the use of translation transformations in the reproduction of hate speech for foreign linguaculture. The presented study demonstrated the results of a quantitative analysis based on nearly 400 English-language utterances, which were recorded in different uses and in different forms of manifestation. The most prominent examples were analyzed in detail, justifying one or another choice of mode of translation. The analysis of translation was presented according to the following structure: hate speech in modern social networks; manifestations of hate speech recorded in modern advertising campaigns and vintage advertisements; manifestations of hate speech caused by COVID-19; hate speech recorded in television shows, TV shows, and movies; manifestations of hate speech in Internet memes The phenomenon of \"hate speech\" is also seen as an actual interdisciplinary phenomenon, which requires thorough scientific and linguistic research, to prevent its dangerous consequences.","PeriodicalId":404912,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Linguistics","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133886783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since 2014, the conflict in the East of Ukraine has led to a remarkably large and intense flow of Ukrainian migrants to Western Europe and Germany in particular giving rise to longstanding issues of identity formation and language use both within Ukraine and inside Ukrainian diaspora communities around the globe. This article will examine Ukrainian diaspora in Germany on the subject of language ideologies, practices and identity shaping by analyzing its linguistic online activity. To do so, our analysis will draw on a range of interdisciplinary methodologies, including studies of descriptive reporting of diaspora’s online discussions, its language practices and attitudes, and studies of discursive constructions of nationhood, which explore language indexing in relation to national identity negotiation.","PeriodicalId":404912,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Linguistics","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126905459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Her pedigree in particular has been traced. Heredity of generations, the appearance of ingenious personalities is always the subject of special attention. The decisive moment in defining these processes is the appearance of new people, more precisely people of new formation, people of progressive thinking, who are the driving force and foundation of historical change. New generations should not be indifferent to their great predecessors. Lesіa Ukrainka as a creative nature could not be indifferent to the talents and skills of talented people, the circle of her friends, acquaintances and supporters was extremely wide as well as the measurement of her interests. Hence, being proficient in the English language does not only require learners to be competent in the forms and functions of the language, but they also need to consider sociocultural values. In this regard, it is significant to be aware of the differences and similarities between the source culture and target cultures to build cultural awareness and have intercultural communicative competence. Being one of the most used teaching materials, coursebooks play a crucial role to develop intercultural communicative competence by introducing various cultures. Due to the importance of coursebooks in terms of representation of cultures, this study aims to examine the frequency of appearances of source culture, target culture, and international target cultures in reading texts of “English File Elementary” and “English File Pre-Intermediate” prepared by Latham-Koenig, Oxenden, Lambert, and Seligson (2019) and identify the topics through Byram’s criteria (1993). Employing content analysis method and mixed-methods, the study revealed that the representation of source culture is highly neglected while the target culture is frequently represented in the reading texts. To bridge the gap, this study aims to investigate the degree of directness and amount of lexical / phrasal internal and external modifications of requestive e-mails employed by 25 first grade students of English Language and Literature department with preparatory education and 25 first grade students of English Language and Literature department without preparatory education in their in a state university. It also aims to explore whether there is a difference between two groups according to the degree of imposition while making requests. The participants were given discourse completion tests in e-mail format including two different situations with low and high imposition levels and asked to write two requestive e-mails to their non-native professor. The e-mails were analyzed and classified based on Economidou-Kogetsidis’s (2011) framework which relies on Blum- Kulka et al. (1989) and Biesenbach-Lucas (2006, 2007). Based on the percentages and frequencies, the students with preparatory class education were compared to the students without preparatory class education, with respect to their usage of request strategies, lexical/phrasal internal modification and external modification. The results indicated that these two groups had both similarities and differences with respect to the degree of directness, the amount of internal and external modifications. Turkish ELL learners with and without prep class education employed more direct strategies in both situations. However, the group without prep class education employed more conventionally indirect strategies than the group with prep class education. None of the participants used non-conventionally indirect strategies. The group with prep class education used more internal modification than the group without prep class education. The most common internal modification was the consultative device in both groups. As for external modification, the group with prep class education utilized more supportive moves than the group without prep class education. Advertising text is one of the relevant topics for linguistic research, as advertising is a dynamic phenomenon. Its development predetermines the systematization of linguo-stylistic peculiarities within English advertising texts. The aim of the article is to analyse the use of expressive linguo-stylistic devices in English-language advertising texts in the field of mechanical engineering considering their structural composition. The subject of research is English-language advertising texts in the field of mechanical engineering. The article theoretically substantiates the terminological apparatus of the research: different approaches of scientists to the interpretation of the concepts \"advertising\", \"advertising text\" and \"advertising discourse\" were considered. The structural features of the advertising text and their functions are also analysed. The article provides several classifications of leading scholars, on the basis of which further analysis was conducted. The study was based on the official English-language sites of such leading companies in the industry as BMW, Jaguar, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Lexus, Saturn, Audi, Subaru, Suzuki, Hyundai and others. The article focuses on the examples of expressive linguo-stylistic devices in each of the structural elements of the English advertising text in the field of mechanical engineering, taking into account the frequency of their use. The peculiarities of their functioning in media texts were also analyzed, considering pragmatics and communication strategies aimed at the recipient of the advertising message. Turkey made its latest reform in English Language Teaching Program in 2013 and a generation has already been educated with the new program since then. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate this program over the very first generation through the eyes of implementers, namely the language teachers in the field. For this purpose, a study group was formed with 16 language teachers who have at least 10 years of experience and teach at primary level public schools in Kutahya Province, Turkey. Their views regarding the major changes (age, methodology, materials, and assessment) offered by the new program were collected through semi-structured interviews. Binomials are stable pairs of words that function as a single lexical unit, the meaning of which is not the sum of the values of its components. Conventionally, binomials are divided into groups based on the structure, compatibility, and semantic characteristics. Particular attention is drawn to the semantic classification, which considers these unique language formations in terms of the diversity of their meanings and imagery.Reference has been made to the reasons for the need to study the concept of binomial, its semantic and communicative-pragmatic features are outlined. Among them it is necessary to distinguish those that contain only one primary meaning, which follows from the full composition in the specified context, and there are also inversions, the meaning of which is quite difficult to find because of their ambiguity. According to lexical and grammatical features of the constituent parts binomials are divided into single-class and multi-class. Single-class binomials include nouns, adjectives, verbs, pronouns, numerals, conjunctions, and prepositions that form word combinations. Multi-class binomials consist of words related to different parts of speech and are combined by a conjunction that indicates two similar or opposite signs, objects, phenomena or actions. The article reveals the communicative and pragmatic features of English binomials in the literary style on the example of English literary works and binary terminological phrases in the scientific style, on the example of medical terminology, as one of the largest terminological systems. The research of 85 English binomials in the literary style and 100 binary terminological phrases in the scientific style made it possible to determine their semantic and communicative-pragmatic features.","PeriodicalId":404912,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Linguistics","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130249134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
