It is a challenging problem to the power engineers to detect these faults at an early stage. If these incipient faults are not detected at their inception, they would develop into more severe faults that may result in damage to the transformer. In this paper a physical model of a multiwinding power transformer of 100 MVA, 138/13.8 KV is simulated in a power system using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Different percentages of turns such as 1%, 3%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 25% are shorted on primary and secondary sides of the multiwinding transformer to measure the terminals current. The change in the terminals current during fault incidence (inter turn fault) is negligibly small. In order to experience significant changes, negative sequence currents are extracted using symmetrical component approach. The percentage changes in magnitudes of negative sequence currents (%MAG) and the corresponding phase shifts (PS) that occur in the transformer during fault incidence period are evaluated and they are fed as inputs to fuzzy logic. Here fuzzy logic is employed not only to monitor the condition of the transformer but also to improve the sensitivity of the proposed scheme. The two variables (%MAG& PS) are fed as inputs to fuzzy logic. Depending on the data obtained, the inputs are assigned with three membership functions each namely low, medium, and high. A fuzzy inference engine is built with nine fuzzy rules based on the knowledge gained from the system behavior. Here the process of defuzzification is carried out by using centroid calculation method. The output variable is named as transformer condition (TC), Which is assigned with three membership functions such as Incipient fault (IF), Minor fault (MF), and Severe fault (SF).","PeriodicalId":403563,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Science Engineering and Management Research (ICSEMR)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122019086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim is to develop an efficient personal identification system to provide secure access for legitimate users which is a challenging task. In order to avoid these problems, the use of biométrie traits reliably provides efficient and effective solutions. Though unimodal biometrics faces various issues such as non-universality, distinctiveness, spoof attacks, noise in sensed data, intra-class variations. To overcome these issues, Multimodal biometrics based personal identification system is developed using Soft Computing Techniques. The biométrie traits such as fingerprint, palmprint and finger knuckle print are used for recognition system. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Genetic Algorithm are used for this purpose. The Haralick features are used for the recognition system. The proposed system achieves excellent identification rate and higher user acceptability. Although there are several techniques available, many researchers have used K-Means clustering in reducing the datasets. In this paper, three different methods were used to replace missing values with mean, median and a predicted score; the cleaned datasets were reduced using K-Means clustering and Statistical Outlier detection. This research work compares the data reduction percentage performed by K-Means and Statistical Outliers for all the three methods of imputation. The axisymmetric two-dimensional analyses have been carried for different heat fluxes (200 W/m2, 400 W/m2 and 600 W/m2) and rotational speeds (50 rad/s, 100 rad/s and 200 rad/s) to understand the effect of rotational speed on heat transfer. Fluid flow and heat transfer governing equations are solved using commercial CFD code, ANSYS FLUENT. The conjugate heat transfer modeling is used to solve the coupled heat transfer between fluid and solid regions. Results revealed that the temperature decreases along the radius of the disk and reaching a maximum value at the centre of the disk when a constant heat flux is applied. The drop in temperature along the disk increases as the rotational speed increases which could be attributed by the fact that the convective heat transfer coefficient increases with the rotational speed.","PeriodicalId":403563,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Science Engineering and Management Research (ICSEMR)","volume":"333 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122742927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effects on the structural, compositional and optical properties are discussed. Simple solution- thermal method is suitable and more economical for large-scale production. The powder X- ray diffraction pattern of the equal amount of divalent metal ions mixed ZnO samples shows the mixed phases of the respective divalent metal oxides apart from the wurtzite ZnO peaks. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and UV-visible spectrophotometry were employed to characterize the samples. From the study of FTIR spectroscopy, the Zn-O bonding is shifted towards the higher wave numbers on mixing Ni, Pb and Cu oxides with the ZnO nano particles. The absorption band of ZnO/NiO, ZnO/PbO, and ZnO/CuO mixed oxides are distinctly broadened and red-shifted indicating the strong interfacial interaction between ZnO and mixed oxides. The band gap of the nano particles can be tuned in the range of 2.7-3eV by the addition of divalent metal ions.","PeriodicalId":403563,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Science Engineering and Management Research (ICSEMR)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122792791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Information processing and communication capabilities of the sensor nodes consumes more energy and directly affect the life time of the network. Clustering is commonly used for improving the lifetime of the network and to reduce the energy consumption. we propose a hybrid approach involving Bacteria Foraging Algorithm (BFA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) applied to traditional clustering based protocol like LEACH-C that forms the k-optimal clusters by identifying the suitable cluster head. This algorithm searches the random direction in the tumble behavior of each bacteria for using the local best and global best position obtained by PSO.
