The comprehensive improvement of Japanese-Vietnamese relations is based on a combination of strategic and economic interests. The first part of the article is devoted to the key trends in the development of relations between Japan and Vietnam. The second part defines areas of convergence of interests and constraints on the path of further rapprochement between Tokyo and Hanoi. This central monument of Vietnamese traditional historical thought has not been translated into European languages. Volume seven presents a translation of chapters XVIXVII, covering the period of Vietnamese history from 1533 to 1599. The book consists of several parts: a study on Vietnam China relations and political history of North Vietnam in the 16th century, the translation itself, and a detailed commentary. The Appendices section contains translations of Chinese and Vietnamese works. The translation from hanviet was done by the leading Russian expert on Vietnamese history A.L. Fedorin, Doctor of Historical Sciences, who also wrote the research part and comments. Mazyrin","doi":"10.54631/vs.2021.54-148-161","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.54631/vs.2021.54-148-161","url":null,"abstract":"The survey presents organizers, participants and the main themes of the discussions on the state of the Russian-Vietnamese strategic partnership, held in Moscow by RAS IFE and in Hanoi by the Institute of European Studies of VASS in early December 2021. It analyzes the reports on the state and perspectives of bilateral cooperation in the crucial spheres, such as political, military-technical, socio- economic, scientific-technical, cultural and educational ones. The evaluation was of objective character: the experts noted both the achievements and the shortcomings, showed the existing hardships and explained their causes. Criticism prevailed; the common conclusion (while the approaches of the sides differed appreciably) was the acknowledgement of still existing serious problems in the crucial spheres of relations (especially in trade-economic relations), the determination of their current stage, which is the durability test in the conditions of the two worlds growing confrontation. Selezneva","doi":"10.54631/vs.2021.54-71-86","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.54631/vs.2021.54-71-86","url":null,"abstract":"Southeast Asian countries have always been one of the priority regions of the Chinese foreign policy due both to the geographic proximity and to the long historical and cultural connections and new forms of economic and trade cooperation which have been formed on that basis. Vietnam supports close interaction with its northern neighbour not only in the Party matters, but also in the trade and economic, agricultural, tourism, educational, medical, and other spheres. Naturally, this suggests intense learning of the Chinese language on a large scale. China, in its turn, is interested in maintenance and increase of its positive image among the countries of Southeast Asia. That is why China applies various methods and tools of nonforce pressure, which are known as cultural soft power. One of these tools is the Confucius Institute (Classes). China considered it the site of promotion of the Chinese language and Chinese culture abroad. From the outside, Vietnam and China appear to move toward each other in the matter of teaching and learning Chinese, but the reality shows that the Vietnamese side is not hastening to join the Chinese initiative, striving to control the situation, and does not let the Chinese side expand the Confucius Institutes network in Vietnam.
