International Students’ Challenges at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah 麦加Umm Al-Qura大学国际学生的挑战

A qualitative approach consisting of individual interviews with students was used to collect the data. The sample comprised 15 participants aged between 23 and 40 who were studying at various stages of the higher education hierarchy, including di-ploma, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and doctorate. The disciplines covered were Sharia, Islamic economics, teach-er preparation, jurisprudence, Quran and Sunnah, and applied linguistics. The students’ average stay in Saudi Arabia was five years. Their countries of origin were Guinea, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Central Africa, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Senegal. The results revealed several challenges facing international students, which can be divided into five categories: administrative, educational, economic, personal, and social. Hope is one of the important positive variables, and it plays a key role in achieving human adaptation, health, learning and happiness. It can be defined as a positive cognitive feature that leads to motivation, activity, and achievement of goals. As for self-esteem, it is a self-assessment criterion that includes cognitive assessments of self-worth and the emotional experiences associated with these assessments. To achieve the objectives of the study, the Adult Hope Scale, developed by Snyder (1991) and the Self-esteem scale, developed by Rosenberg (1989), both translated into Arabic by Abdel-Khalek (2004) and (2007) respectively, were administered to a sample that consisted of 382 Lebanese university students, of which there were 86 males and 296 females, of age ranging from 18 to 25. Means and SD, t-test to calculate the differences between means, as well Pearson Correlation Coefficients were used in the interpretation of the results. The findings of the study showed that there is a positive significant correlation between hope and self-esteem, and there are no significant differences in hope and self-esteem between male and female university students. The sample of the study consisted of (102) gifted students in high school, male and female who classified in The national program for gifted identification in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The epistemological beliefs scale (Aljughaiman & Ayoub, 2010) and Creative Self-Efficacy (CSE) inventory (Abbott, 2010) are used in this study. The results indicated that EB level for gifted student was high. And also the level of CSE for gifted students was high. Also shows significant positive relation at sig (0.05) between CSE and EB among gifted students. Also there were no significant differences in CSE and EB Among gifted students attributed to gender and grade. Also there were significant differences at sig (0.01) in CSE among gifted students attributed to the interaction between gender and grade.
